WIP shell homebrew PSPMacX in need of beta testers - Image 1Homebrew coder nickdagamer has announced over at the QJ.NET PSP Development Forum that he is currently developing a shell for the Sony PlayStation Portable designed to resemble Mac OS X. It's aptly called PSPMacX.

As of now, however, the program itself is still in the early beta testers and has limited features. The coder provided the percentage of work down to the application's every aspect:
  • Boot:100%
  • Desktop Layout:75%
  • Dock:75%
  • Menu:10%
  • Window:10%
  • Wallpaper Changer:100%
  • Help:10%
  • PSP Nickname/Firmware:0%
  • File browser: 0%
  • Games: 0%
  • MP3 Playback: 0%
  • Log off: 0%
  • Shut Down: 0%
More importantly, nickdagamer is also asking for help during the beta testing phase of PSPMacX. If you wish to participate, you can contact him via the forum link below.

What is the point in these "shells"? I haven't looked into them much but they seem like they're just yet another menu system that runs as a seperate application?

OSX's dock doesn't work like that either, it doesn't just zoom in, it pushes aside other icons and supports scaling dependant from any position the cursor is over.

Maybe if these things replaced the PSP's original UI then they might have some value.

I don't know why they keep trying to copy IRSHELL.
Anyway, I've noticed that no one posted this news:
IRSHEL has been updated, now it works fully in 3.90 M33. Please, QJ Staff, post this.

This is just another shell. A different GUI.
So basically you're saying "Oh noes, this portal is trying to copy (a portal)! They have games, apps, everything..." Except same GUI.
Put aside your statement, that IrShell update was out a while ago...and it states right there it is MORE compatible with 3.90. Not fully...
