Yes guys, I'm not kidding! Remember when I said that the newest firmware required some magic on the part of Team C+D? Well, I guess it didn't take them very long to finish their work. And in this case, it was another fine piece of work- You can call it the Firmware 3.10 decrypter by the way!

So now that we have the firmware decrypted, on Day 0 no less(!), the main focus now shifts to guys like Dark_AleX, Mathieulh, Booster and the Noobz team who will be responsible for turning this firmware on its head in a few days. Great things are coming, you just wait! Anyways, here's their info in its full glory:

C+D NFO - Image 1

With that out of the way, we can now patiently wait for things like Devhook, a new custom firmware by Dark_AleX and if someone can find and exploit in the firmware, even a downgrader! OK, so the downgrader part is speculation, but I don't think you guys will have to wait long for a new version of Devhook or DAX's CFW.

Anyway, I'll stop talking now. The file has been uploaded and it also contains the source. Start decrypting your firmwares and get ready!

Flashing my PSP gives me the creeps

   Re: TiM (Unregistered) - 2007-01-31
 » I Agree

You say flashing gives you the creeps, then don't do it. Honestly, unless there's a major feature in OE, don't bother.

Remember the big scary thing to worry about with bricking is the inital downgrade (farking scary) and then playing around with flash0.

The upgrader itself is just as safe and stable as the official Sony one, they do the same thing. Just use common sense, ie a fully charged battery and the power cable plugged in. And all modules disabled.

Nothing to be scared of.

   Re: Nige111 (Unregistered) - 2007-01-31

That first downgrade, Was the scariest... I was literally *****ting my pants, hoping it wouldn't brick it, As my PSP has just expired from it's warranty a few days back. X_x I still worry a little when I downgrade now. :/

» you guys should be informed

its still good for sony giving updates.
its gives hackers something to work upon.
then hackers gives us the opportunity to use what sony gave us and still enjoy homebrew programs.
if sony stop updating the psp firmware for example when it was just 2.xx then we wont be able to play PS1 games on the psp EVER. updates are cool but hacked updates are way better. so please sony give us more updates and more psp capabilities (ex any video format playback, or ability to play ps2 games, this is just an example so don't flame this dummy). oh and please stop using the phrase "security update" you are sounding more like microshlt windoes

 » Not possible

Dark_alex doesn't add new features (besides recovery), he just unlocks the locks put place by Sony. I don't think he could modify the actual web browser or anything like that, at least not without the source code, which is locked away deep inside Mt. Sony.

   Re: FreePlay (Unregistered) - 2007-01-31
 » Doesn't add new features???

ISO loading... playing unencrypted PS1 games... etc...

   Re: .. (Unregistered) - 2007-01-31
 » ..

anyway, just as flarephoenix says, he unlocks stuff. The psx iso playing was already in the 3.0+ firmware, he just unlocked it so you could use it without buying stuff..

   Re: xche78x - 2007-01-31
 » oh extra

the ISO loading part is also just an unlocked thing. sony does this by the demo games. loading games from MS. and before you think about it, DA also just unlocked the bitrate cap of the AVC player.
and about Youtube playable directly playable, homebrew maybe able to remedy this by creating a new homebrew browser capable of showing FLV flash 9, but i think the psp memory will hinder this capability. but dont take my word for it, it can be possible (like location free player) homebrew style. i also want youtube direct on my psp very much!

   Re: Advertising -

   Re: PSPZorZ - 2007-01-31
 » r

Yeah DAX would need sony's source code to REALLY modify the FW, the PS1 thing was just unlocked by DAX like they said and ISO loading is just tricking the PSP into thinking the UMD is in the drive, and loading UMD games is a feature sony obviously needed to put in... but the demo loading has nothing to do with loading ISOs...

   Re: Typhoonexhale (Unregistered) - 2007-02-01
 » allright let me explain

the solution to youtube is easy do know how windows uses virtual memory (RAM2Harddrive) basically make a homebrew browser that caches memory to the ms ppl with 1g or higher ms's would be fine there and you could watch youtube all day on ur psp! oh yeah and flash9

For some reason people keep forgetting that. Sony made an awesome piece of hardware but they are not very good at coding, and because of that we have homebrew, but that doesnt mean sony is stupid nor a looser.

   Re: rexray - 2007-01-30
 » Stop trashing Sony!

I totally agree. Sony should get props for their excellent console designs and their ability to lead the pack with quality gaming products. The only reason I support Homebrew is to fully utilize the abilities possible on the PSP, NOT to hurt Sony. They're trying to protect their interrests and earn back the million$ they've invested in R+D. After all,if Sony goes down, they take the PSP and any future PSP versions with them! THEN where would we be? That's right... complaining about how much the Nintendo DS sucks - because that's all we'll have left. No thanks.

Sony rules.

I think DAX should remove the other languages (korean, russian, etc) instead of removing the LocationFree feature. The additional languages take up a LOT of flash space, and besides, 99% of users don't even use them. Removing Certificate Utility might also help as well. Personally, I think another valuable addition would be the ability to disable Network Update via recovery menu(to prevent accidental update). Good luck DAX!

There's no reason for DAX to remove those languages, since other people use those. If you don't want them, remove them yourself. Also, I'm pretty sure Dark_Alex already disabled that.

Anyone heard yet if any changes have been found with the PSX emulator? Just wondering what we might be able to expect on the compatibility front with user-ripped ISO's that were converted to EBOOTs. It'd be nice if the few little bugs were ironed out with FF7.

   Re: axelixc - 2007-01-30
 » 3.02 pops plugin for 3.03

u can use it in 303oe-c to play ff7. they little annoyance is the blicking command bar while fighting enemies would be gone using the plugin.

   Re: Vipre77 (Unregistered) - 2007-01-31
» FF7 still doesn't work exactly right in 3.02 emulator tho

FF7 hasn't worked perfectly in any version of the emu released so far. Going back to the 3.02 version via this plugin fixes the swirly thing when battles starts, but there's still going to be the transparency issues with the menus during the battle. It's minor, I know, but it's still distracting to me.

Beyond FF7, though, there were some games that didn't work at all. I don't happen to own any of those at the moment, but I'm sure some people do. I'm wondering if anything has been updated in Sony's emu in this new firmware that might help compatibility.

I think the real concern is making it personal enough for Sony to actually put forth an effort to stop homebrew.

sony has spent too much money on psp and its doing pretty well so sony has no reason to cancel it because of a couple hacks.
   by Atvaark (Unregistered) - 2007-01-30
 » i've been thinking

you know, maybe Sony aren't trying to stop homebrew anymore, sure, they can't openly allow use to use it, but i think they don't really care anymore, they just focus on adding some useful things to their firmwares.maybe that's why it seems so easy to hack.Sure, they don,t agree on using pirated games, but any developer can't condone the use of user-made programs...if you look at firmware 1.0, there was no protection at all, homebrew was able to run without any exploits, then sony got sued or a warning, i don't remember, saying that they weren't allowed to let us use homebrew and crap like that, so they did try for a while to stop us from doing so.i just think that past 3.0, they just put some basic protection to let whoever,s watching them believe they're still making an effort, while they secretly don't give a damn anymore. they realized homebrew was a good thing, to a certain extent, and don't mind letting us use it.but that's just my point of view. who else shares my opinion?

 » Well...

I do really agree Sony isn't trying as hard as they used to be. They do give a ***** though.

   Re: Kleptoone (Unregistered) - 2007-01-31
 » My Theory

My theory is that they cannot change certain things due to compatability issues that might arise on older games already released. They are stuck with obvious exploits that they can do nothing about, unless they wanted to institute a "ship your old umd for a new one" program. My 2 bits.

   Re: FreePlay (Unregistered) - 2007-01-31
 » No.

Sony is still trying just as hard. That's why they patched both the old and new GTA exploits in firmware 3.10.

   Re: Jin (Unregistered) - 2007-01-31
 » No.

That's just what they have to do. Their jobs is to patch everything, that's no big deal. It's the amount of effort put into patching everything that lets people tell the difference. Remember how long it took to get downgraders for the older firmwares? It seemed like a lifetime. 3.00 came out, the next day it was hacked, then 3.01-3, now 3.10 in less than 24 hours. You think they're really put forth all the effort they can? Sure people are using different methods, but it can be a number of reasons. You said they patched the GTA exploit, apparently not good enough the first time around since it's still usable. But that must be them trying. : P

I understand every hacker is amazing at doing that and finding exploits and whatnot, but as it goes on, Sony is not trying as hard, they're just doing what they're supposed to do, and continue to patch the exploits, and add new features.

   Re: KiGui (Unregistered) - 2007-02-02
 » I think

I think they've pretty much given up on trying to stop the homebrew scene. It's a big scene and everything that they have tried has been defeated by hackers who learn more and more about Sony's methods every time they release a firmware. They know that without a new motherboard, they're wasting effort and money that could be bringing us end-users (and prospective newbies) better features and new uses -- which is the way it should be. For me, if it wern't for the homebrew scene, my PSP would have been sold by now because it didn't have features that I found with homebrew apps. Sony has some big fish in the frying pan right now. They need to focus on getting more games out. They've got the whole blu-ray thing going on, the PS3, ect., etc. I love what seems to be a new focus on getting that beautiful PSP into more hands instead of trying to stop something they have almost no control over. Maybe when they start making some money off of their new efforts they'll come back to try to pull the plug on this, but they'll always know that the scene won't go away. WTG C+D!!! Mad Propz!
