You've heard of the PSP-controlled car, right? Here's another PSP accessory that never quite got off the drawing board.
Yep, that's a gun controller accessory for the Sony handheld. If you look closely, you'll see the MadCatz logo on the guncon images. The third-party accessory designer isn't on the patent though. The guncon would have let users mount their PSP on top of it, with movement being handled via motion-sensing. Pressing the buttons on the guncon would send commands to the PSP via IR. The guncon was to have built-in rumble as well. Power would have been provided by four AA batteries, although it could also draw power from the PSP itself by way of a USB connection. Obviously, the PSP guncon never made it to production, but it would have been way cool if it did. It was obviously made to work with the PSP-1000, but the PSP-3000's screen brightness would have helped to enable outdoor use. I'm a bit skeptical about the strength of that PSP mounting brace, though. I wouldn't want to see my PSP flying to the ground after a particularly fierce multiplayer FPS bout. What do you think, guys? If somebody actually came out with this thing (with a few changes of course, especially to the IR input system), would you buy it? Related articles: |

Rediculous and stupid. I think you will need the Go!Cam to make it at least fun. So that you'll be aiming on something.
I think this in game this would be totally useless unless the psp suddently got a motion sensor or something.
"Whats that moron doing over there?"

You know it sounds ok but you can't really say bad stuff about it your mom cuz like for sure once they get / got farther down the line of making it there would be more changes to it to make it better and more awesome. I think i would probley buy the end product

» Silent scope
It could work like the zoom scope on arcade silent scope, where it works as a normal Ps3 light gun but when you zoom in it switches to Psp view like a rifle scope.

» awsome!
i'd buy it in a heartbeat. It does need a d-pad. You could make the whole front black part swivel like a analog to do strafe and forward/back movement. Would make games like coded arms more fun.

» Interesting concept
It's an interesting idea, but not for PSP. Could be used for other consoles or a whole new toy itself...

I also instantly thought of GoCam. But if the rifle itself had a HD camera in the nozzle... One that you could snipe with... Hmmmmm.... You could basically play a form of paintball. Each player dressed in a particular color... Or in a different pattern ! Like stripes or dots, squares, etc. But I can see many technicalities for those. For instance, colors change shades when different light is applied (shadows, window reflections and such) and patterns can change when the clothes folded - when you fold your arm for instance. The camera could mistake a friend from a foe.
Whoever thinks about wifi usage, isn't thinking straight. The thing's got like a 10-15 meters range. You could probably spit on the enemy if the wind is favorable.

wow, sometimes it amazes me how dumb people are and how they can't grasp a concept.
Why would you need a go-cam? that doesn't even make sense.
You wouldn't be running around looking like an idiot because you wouldn't be running around at all. Basically, you'd use normal controls from moving and the motion sensors would be used strictly for aiming. The first person view on the PSP screen would change as you moved the gun/psp around to correspond with your movement. For whatever idiot said it... yes numbnuts, we're aware that the PSP doesn't have motion sensing. If you RTFA, you'd see that the motion sensors would have been built into the gun. While the article mentions that the info would be sent via IR, this could still be done via serial (a.k.a. remote) port or by USB. It's a nice concept. I do agree that it would be awesome if it were able to work with PS3 games for zoom capabilites. Then again, there are a million things that could be done with the PSP/PS3 combo that Sony hasn't/isn't doing... They're just full of empty promises. In the end, the interconectivity of the two systems is going to continue being modest and far from groundbreaking. Sony has become known for having great hardware and never capitalizing on it. The make great devices, but never seem to be able to use them to their full, scratch that, to even HALF of their extent of possibilites. SONY = FAIL.
