Daedalus R10? - Image 1

StrmnNrmn's pulling off what we like to call a "NJ," named after a very prominent PSP dev who basically comes out with v2.0 an hour after v1.0 is released. Instead of the PSP emulator known as CPS1PSP or CPS2PSP, however, we have Daedalus R9.

According to his blog, StrmnNrmn actually wants you to help him figure out what ought to be added onto Daedalus R9 for the R10 release. He's polling the visitors to his site to see what feature should next get implemented, whether it be speed or compatibility, or a host of other features.

In any case, here's the list of features he wants to tackle. Let him know what you think he should prioritize by visiting his blog and dropping a comment right here, alright?

Please reply to this post with your opinions on what I should work on next. Have a good play with R9 to see what's changed - maybe some things are working better than you expected. Maybe some things are no longer working? Here are a few suggestions:

  • Speed. Make it faster generally? Is there a specific game that runs slowly which you'd like to see an improvement with?
  • Compatibility. Should I work on FlashRAM support? Is there a specific game that doesn't boot, or crashes the emulator? Does your favourite game boot, but then crash when you try to start playing?
  • Audio. The audio support is quite new. Are there certain games where it doesn't work? Should I try to improve the audio so it's less choppy?
  • Graphics. Maybe your favourite game runs, but there are significant graphical glitches?
  • Save Games. Save game support is currently 'in' for EEPROM and MemPak based saves, but very flaky. Should I work on improving this so you don't lose your hard-earned progress?
  • Savestate. Would it be better for me to implement savestate support, so you can save an resume a game at any point?

Speed, speed and er speed
audio

cant it have an option to ignore textures? that would speed it up

I want him to make daedalus compatitable with super smash bros, goldeneye 007, and diddy kong racing

and definately speed man, he did good with the new speed, but it can be a whole lot better

   Re: tattys (Unregistered) - 2007-02-22
 » awesome

the quality of graphics on pc games is different depending on your setup/graphics card, so cant he just miss stuff out to speed it up? like ballywoo said - leave off textures or perhaps low res textures?

   Re: DJ (Unregistered) - 2007-02-22
 » yeah...

the media engine (ME) is a great way to improve the emu, but it requires separate coding. you have to learn how it works first then he can code it

 » Stop *****tting yourself guys

Everyone knows that Super Smash Bros. is only good on multiplayer withga friend or something. If you want that then get a PC Emulator or something. SMB would be pointless.

I say try getting Starcraft, Diddy Kong Racing, and/or Banjo Kazooie to work. I'm leaning torwards Banjo Kazooie, but just relying on speed right now. Everything else is fine at the moment, it's just that you can only get up to 3 Frames per. second in gameplay. I suppose it shouldn't be a problem just twinking that a bit Strmn..?

There are a few things I would like...
Audio should be removed because it does 2 things:
1. Makes the game lag like hell
2. Sounds like the devil has infested your PSP

Also, compatability with Yoshi Story and Super smash brothers would be something i like and also Conker bad fur day. After all of framerate and issues have been taken care of, savestate and such would be nice...

 » want

speed in general would be great but i guess the main games are mario 64 and mario kart 64 so those two would be great, it's almost perfect on MK64 time trial but the main GP is slow :(

goldeneye support woudl be great!

i'd never used daedalus before but it's quite good!

   Re: Joe (Unregistered) - 2007-02-22

actually, been playing on 150CC and it's actually been quite good! unlocked the mirror mode anyway, so long as you get to 1st place and the rest of the cars are out of the view of the screen then you average 20fps :)

A lot of games dont work the program restarts or the screen goes black, speed speed and more speed, its lagging a lot if you play with sound.

I love N64 and this program but can you plz fix this?

but anyways, compatibility is good, i want ogre battle 64 to work... even if there are some graphical letdowns with it, i want to play that game again... why did it get pawned on me?!?!

i think at this point speed should be first and foremost, followed by compatibility. with more speed comes the feeling that your actually playing the N64 game. I can deal with a few graphical errors, to gain playability and speed.

why ask such a silly question? everything of course. U make the emulator the best you can. OBVIOUSLY SPEED THEN COMPATIBILITY. What? are you going to make a tally of all these comments and then decide? what a load of bull. Dont be a bloody drama queen like Zion....just get on with it.

keep up the good work.

Re: silly question (Unregistered) - 2007-02-22
» who is actually playing right now?

My point is, that only a few diehards would bother trying to 'play' mario in its current state. Most other games are almost unplayable. This strikes me as a tech demo....there isnt much gaming to be had here.

srtmnrm should take a leaf out of exophase's book and just extend the cycles of his updates. I dont want R10 with added savestate support. It'd be useless with the emulators current state.

R10 will be useless as all the other versions have been. Lets see a stable R30 and then I'll worship.

what i want to say just take n64 pc emulator and TRy to use psptool chain and decode it and TAda the best n64 emulator!!!

Re: you listen (Unregistered) - 2007-02-22
 » ....

most pc n64 emulators requires great processing power and graphics cards. Its like trying to run project 64 in a pentium 2 333mhz lol, The emulator wont work at full speed. You have to program the emulator taking in consideration psp hardware limits.

 » First and foremost

You most definitely need a savestate feature. Can't do without it in some of the bigger games. But supporting Eeprom and MemPak as well makes it the best it can be.

Speed and compatibility are very important as well. I've never used the emulator, so I don't know of any games that aren't compatible, but just make sure staples are.

Speed, compatibility, and savestates.

   Re: Tasajara (Unregistered) - 2007-02-25

I agree with red but i think compatibility should come first, then speed, then savestates.

 » Mario64

I remember not too long ago there was a fake N64 emu that promised to run Mario64 with full sound and speed - that was received with open arms. I think to focus on that objective then build from there would be fantastic. You'll lose your mind trying to handle the requests of every game out there. Thanks for all your work.

 » OK.......

Ok, what i want from daedalus R10 is for SOUTH PARK the game to work and also for SUPER SMASH BROS to work, I also have had some extremely annoying experiences with the memory, so I would just like the game saves to work because without them the emulator is just plain worthless. On Mario 64 about half the time it saves and half the time it doesn't resulting in you redoing stages every single time you play. It kind of ticks me off. BUT I love your hard work on this emu strm nrm

i never made a code in my life so i dont know how i can be taken seriously so here it goes.

the psp can handle ps1 games perfectly. so im assuming that it has the power to process n64 games. the emulator needs to process games a lot faster. is there any way to make something like the Popstation for n64 games so that it would make it more compatible to the emulator?

 » KeySettings

I think that it wants a flexible key setting.
And, I want the mechanism that memorizes two or more the key setting situations.
Because the number of buttons is more than that of PSP, N64 is guessed that it is necessary to replace the key setting by the game frequently.:=)

 » compatability

i used to run San Francisco Rush and Wipeout64 but now i cant. what happened? also, GREEAAAAT JOOOOBB ON THE GRAPHICS! ITT RULEZ!!!! (although it needs a little bit of work left and thats it. i mean when i play 007 the world something it has wierd black marks on their faces but im not disappointed.) excellent work on the audio. i like it but its choppy at times when there is a lot of cache(?) going on but gr8 start.

oh and enjoy your vacation! (just dont forget the emu cuz i love it. i love showing it off to my friends.

   by Karl Marx - 2007-02-22
 » Pretty awesome stuff

Yeah- speed, compatibility. (Lots of texture glitches in OOT, and the sound is so bad in mario kart I had to turn it off.) SOmeone said something about using the ME for sound processing and all that, might be a good idea...

I agree with him...Speed,Compatibility,and Ad-Hoc or Infracture mode would be very AWESOME!!!+D

   Re: GaveUpTomorrow - 2007-02-22
 » We can't even play...

n64 games at full speed...there is no way that Ad-Hoc will be on the list any time soon, and I'd say never. Ad-hoc didn't even run that great with the snes emulators...so there is no way it is would work for n64... not until we can get games running at 100% speed!

   Re: DJ (Unregistered) - 2007-02-22
 » uhhh...

i think ad-hoc is useless if there is hardly anyone near me that knows any of this. ( this is why they go crazy over my moded psp. they are wondering about the xmb and the emulators. heck even my friends had a great time with the remote in irshell. i love showing it off but its sad that they dont know the potential.) so i think u should go with infrastructure once there is nothing left to improve.
