Ah yes, more proof for the unconvinced! With an initial report on Sony releasing PSP FW 5.0 and a follow-up story on its new features (PSN access, screenshot functionality, new RSS feeder), PSP-Gen has revealed two videos of the new firmware in action.

The first vid is just a quickie - a teaser, if you will. It shows the installation of the PSP FW 5.0 eboot. Basically they get to "update" to the Testing Tool version (i.e. beta) of this new firmware.

The second video is the meatier one. It's about five minutes long, and takes us for a tour around the XMB. Yeah the voice over is in French, but if you've read our previous coverage (which you should have already by this time, mind you!) then you'd know what's going on.

PSP-Gen notes that these vids were taken prior to discovering what exactly were the new features in FW 5.0.

I hope that dude's voice was no indication or how exciting the firmware was, he was puttin' me to sleep. I felt like I put in one of those "read-along" tapes.

Haha.
His voice was hilarious.

It could have easily been a custom firmware meant to look like that.

24 hours and I bet there is a leak for the eboot for this.

3 days after that and Dax will have extracted the new bits from it, and then compiled it into the current custom FW.

Good day sir/maa'm, My name is Derek, I am one of the thousands complaining about the psp volume
level. I / we tested our psp's with different hi-fi system so we can also listen music at our
offices and homes but we are very disappointed with the volume level it is very low even we turn off
the avl feature but amazingly with ipod mp3 player it is very loud speacialy with big hi-fi
component system. We are here to ask if you "SONY" can improve this feature with your next firmware
update please. If you visit one of the furom site like afterdawn.com maxconsole , qj.net you will
see how badly need this feature since we dont only use our psp to play games we use it also to play
mp3 music with our hi-fi system. We hope you hear us. Looking forward to hear from you soon! Thank
you very much and more power! from psp users all over the world

   Re: Torch - 2008-10-03

Its not really automated. I bet the guy reads it and has to 'click' respond at the least. They type fully personal replies as well, because I got into an argument with them about the Gapless Atrac3Plus playback being broken in 3.71 and it was their last mail was the exact same as above except it said SCEA development team.

dvd mode how fake he could just create his own cxmb theme and replace the original setting name as those fake name psp hold umds not dvd dummy and ***** the news poster

   Re: Foolmonkey - 2008-10-02
 » fool

you can CHANGE the icons but you can't ADD more icons to the menu. It's a set amount, you can't add more stuff to it.

   Re: afiset - 2008-10-02
 » hey

it's in dev tools. You won't see this option and it is probably used to plug the psp a dvd reader so they do not need to burn DVDs for testing. The guy says nothing in the video, he's running on a old firmware and everytime we can see the PSP version, a black square appears, coincidence? no way he's just laughing because websites take it seriously and do not take time to translate the whole thing.
   by mysterysword - 2008-10-02
 » ....

This is PSP-GEN, so they could have faked it. However, more than likely, it's real. Too far to go for a hoax, anyway...

   by afiset - 2008-10-02
 » lol

There is nothing in the video. He says there is nothing new in internet browser, no new icons, no new options and no new dev tools. lol seriously before posting vids, ask someone who understand french to tell you what's going on here. What's funny is that nobody here understood the audio lol you would know this guy shows nothing at all. He points out the 'Flash enabled' logo and tells 'C'étais déjà comme ca avant, alors pas de changement ici. On peut peut-être s'attendre à une lecture de youtube ou du Playstation Store, mais rien à confirmer ici' which mean: The flash player was already there in old version, so maybe nothing has changed. There is nothing that shows youtube enabled or playstation store access.

I'm happy you're able to shed some light on what he said but man... Talk about a buzz kill. I was all enlightened in maybe seeing something awesome, and then you come alone and smash my hopes. Well done. : P

 » Haha.

I love this idiot and all the other idiots who still cover their mac address. Nothing can be done if someone has your mac address. The most they can do is block your mac address from their router, but honestly who cares? Every electronic device that connects to the internet has a mac address.

   by doubleA - 2008-10-03
 » Im still wondering

If this was true, how exactly does a team of cfw makers (not great at it either) get their hands on a experimental firmware? Unless they broke in sony HQs and stole a hard drive or hacked into a sony server they have no means of actually getting 5.00. Unless they work with sony (Cfw Dev? with sony? dont think so) I think its a hoax.

   Re: afiset - 2008-10-03
 » lol

lol how many times I need to say it, the video is a fake and the guy speaking french is laughing at you people. He says NOTHING new, NOTHING different from the PSP version we have right now. Moreover, black squares hide things that might proove his PSP runs on FW 5.0. The first vid makes sense, but the second one don't.

   Re: doubleA - 2008-10-03
 » alright.

Ill believe you. Sony never does put in anything new. Just to tell you, those black squares are to hide the psp MAC/IP adress so no one can hack into it. I dont know how or what it does but i bet others do.
