Man oh man. Talk about well designed box covers! I've seen other forms of media do the same; DVD covers, book covers, graphic novels... Now comes Square Enix's North American box art for Star Ocean: First Departure and Star Ocean: Second Evolution. Check it out (click the thumb for maximum damage!):
The design goes with the general story arc of both games too! And how's that for some great marketing ploy, eh? Now it's going to be pretty difficult to own just one game. You'd be hard pressed to not complete the "overall" box art image. The Star Ocean port/remakes of the original PSOne titles are headed to the PSP soon. First Departure lands on October 12, with Second Evolution following a few months after that, on January 6. Related article: |

» I agree
I really like the color scheme. Though, I'm far more excited about the games.

That's some good marketing. Even I want to buy both games now, and I'm not even a fan.

» I'll make a fan out of you yet...
You can wait for the PSP enhanced remakes if you want... buuuuut.
I still have my Star Ocean discs from waaaay back in the PS1 era (if I can still find them...). I'll shove them down your throat if I have to.
You HAVE to play it. Even if it's just to get Opera Vectra. Best female RPG character IMHO. ;-)

» Astonishing!
Simply put the design gives the game a real good impression. Stands it to the Star Ocean name if I may say.

» Sorry, but I'm not that shallow.
If the 1st one isn't good, then why would I buy the second just to complete an image? I can buy a jigsaw puzzle for a fraction of the cost and get the same satisfaction.
It's about how well the game plays and not about how cute the box is.

» Satisfaction?
You comment brings to my attention have you even played Star Ocean before?

» That's irrelevant
The point is that box art is not the reason I buy a game or put my faith in a series. The gameplay is.

» Both Star Ocean games weren't on PSX
Only Star Ocean the Second Story was released on the PSX. The original Star Ocean was released on the Super Famicom and is getting a remake to play more like SO2.

» Very Smart move
Now I want to buy both.
I played the original star ocean on a SNES emulator. Didn't get too far, but the battle system is incredible
