Art from our forum has released X-Flash v1 for PSP. X-Flash is a firmware tweaking & modding tool. It can delete the gameboot movie, remove the wave lines in the background, and copy font into the firmware. However, this release doesn't have the "restore to default" option, though Art said this build is very stable and well tested. Art will continue to polish the interface of the program like the XMB interface. You will be able to select fonts, sounds, version numbers and etc.

i'm a noobie, but i think writing to flash is ALWAYS dangerous. That has nothing to do with a restore function. In my opinion it's possible to save the Flash1 with e. g. FileAssistant and write it back afterwards to restore to default, but it is a dangerous step. If the files are corrupted, or your PSP turns off while copying, you risk to brick your console. Please forgive my spelling and correct me, if it didn't make any sense.

 » re: beware

what you forget is when you update your firmware you do the same thing and nobody is saying that it is dangerous. (only that it is stupid)

Sometimes if you corrupt your flash1, your flash0 will recognize its corrupt and restore the defaults from itself. People have been getting that with the font hack.

Would removing the gameboot movie, speed up the boot? or will the screen just stay blank for x seconds?

I'm not a newbie, I'm an electrical engineer, and bottom line is flashing *is* dangerous. That's why so many flashable devices have a backup device. Even if this program is rock-solid, things like a power surge or power outage can mess it up. On top of that, flash devices can typically only be flashed a certain number of times until they "wear out." That number is in the 10s of thousands, but this isn't a hard drive. You flash your device, you risk bricking it, end of subject.

You said sometimes, that does not mean everytime :) Everyone should decide himself, if it's worth to risk bricking our holy psp for some other fonts or skipped movies. In my view you should think twice and after that play around with mph's firmware launcher :) flashing IS always a dangerous process (i failed some xbox flashes and had to build my own chip-flash-device to repair)

I changed My gameboot.pmf, but deleting it completely? now there's an interesting idea...

It probably just displays the PSP logo then loads up all silent. But is it faster?

and I bricked a PSP with PSPset.

it CAN happen!

» Removing gameboot.pmf only remove sound

No, it's not faster. All removing the gameboot.pmf does is mute the sound.
