Ubisoft's Prince of Persia: Rival Swords for the PSP is going to be an updated port of the home console version of Prince of Persia: Two Thrones. It came out last December, just like Prince of Persia: Revelations which was an updated port of Warrior Within. The PSP version will include multiplayer support where you'll be able to play in timed races as either the Prince or the Dark Prince. The updated version will also include new chariot combat levels that don't need to be unlocked as they are available from the main menu when you first boot it up. No release date was announced, but until more information becomes available be sure to check out the first screenshots of the Prince's second outing on the PSP by clicking on the thumbnails below. |

Best Buy

A user from the NeoGAF forums by the name of Mrbob has posted a supposed copy of Best Buy's Strategic planning calender from their Planning Seminar for Playstation 3, Wii, Xbox 360 and PSP. The Playstation 3 and Wii section of the slide mentions the dates that the Kiosks will be in stores as well as dates for marketing strategies. So IF this is true the Playstation 3 kiosk should be rolled out on October 20th following with the Wii 's kiosk on October 29th. It also looks like that when the PS3 and Wii hit it will make the 360 get "pushed" back to shelf display although they are adding an HD-DVD drive to the display. The only text that sticks out for the PSP is the start of the "Play Beyond" wireless marketing campaign. Just a reminder that this is in no way official and the only way to find out if it is true is to wait until the dates listed above. So go ahead and check out the image above by clicking the thumbnail and when the dates come in late October check your local Best Buy to see if the kiosks are there. |

SNK Playmore is bringing Metal Slug Anthology to the Wii and the PSP this November for some good old school arcade action. The collection of Metal Slug games includes Metal Slug one through six and Metal Slug X for seven arcade perfect ports of SNK's side scrolling shooter. The Metal Slug storyline starts from the beginning of the era of modern-day terrorism, set in the near-future of 2028. There are two militant factions that struggle for power: the Rebellion and the Regular Army. The Regular Army is a well-equipped, modern-day force run by various nations around the world. The Rebellion, however, is comprised of various small yet organized militant groups, ranging from terrorists to splinter groups of military forces driven by a hunger for power. The PSP version will have 2 player ad-hoc mode while the Wii version have unique controller functionality and online capabilities. A few weeks ago, the Senior Vice President for Marketing from Sony let loose news of a Medal of Honor game coming to PSP. Today EA announced that the title will be called Medal of Honor Heroes coming indeed exclusively for the PSP and should be out by the end of the year. The game will have an all new single player storyline and PSP-specific feature set. Gamers will also be able to choose from six different Multiplayer modes within 15 different maps while participating in wireless Multiplayer sessions with up to 32 players which is pretty crazy for a handheld. The other option for multiplayer is that you can play with up to 8 players across the room in a local Ad hoc game. The game will also feature “Quickplay” missions in skirmish game mode, allowing players to jump right into the action or customize mission scenarios for added re-playability. Relive your favorite Medal of Honor moments by unlocking over 20 classic characters to use in multiplayer games. EA released some screenshots to showcase some early shots from the game as well so go ahead and check them out by clicking on the thumbnails below.

Many people remember the Crash Dummies from their childhood, well it looks as though the exploding car people are back in a game for the PSP titled Crash Dummy vs. the Evil D-Troit. In the game players take on the role of "Crash Dummy"
who tries to save the future of his best friend and all the other
Dummies. Also, thanks to the use of the incorporated HAVOC physics engine you can fight with many different styles in a unique and interactive environment against evil D-Troit´s prototypes-dummies - move cases, throw barrels, climb walls, swim and use weapons like the Liquid-Bazooka to freeze, glue or burn the bad dummies. The game should be hitting stores sometime before the end of the year, but until then go ahead and checkout the three minute long gameplay video below. StrmnNrmn has posted news about his progress with the Daedalus N64 Emulator on the PSP. According to his blog he updated the project CVS repository, but he is not quite ready to release a new binary yet (still a few more
optimizations and various bugs to fix first) and will
try to release it within the coming week. Incidentally, updating the source normally only takes 20 minutes or so, but it took a good couple of hours tonight. Sourceforge updated their CVS service recently (May 12th) and as a result I had to spend a couple of hours updating WinCVS, generating new SSH keys and the like. Hopefully it won't be so painful next time around, or I might just lose the will to live. As a more general update, I cleared a couple of things from my TODO list sorted this weekend. I'm caching floating point registers for most of the single-precision Cop1 instructions, which are now implemented directly in the dynarec code. I've not timed this in depth yet, but it's shaving 10-20ms/frame off the intro to Mario 64 (Mario's Head), which is particularly FPU heavy (i.e. I'm getting ~160ms/frame rather than ~180ms) Finally I need to have a good think about how to go about optimising the double-precision floating point performance. As the PSP doesn't have hardware support for double precision floating point this is currently very expensive (i.e. adding 2 doubles on the n64 takes just one instruction - on the psp this balloons to several hundred as it all has to be done in software). It is good to see that the Nintendo 64 emulator is being worked on and hopefully will continue to be updated until it is perfect. Well that is the news about Daedalus for now when more information becomes available we'll be sure let you know. You can check out the changes to the source by visiting StrmnNrmn's CVS section of Sourceforge. |
