Ape Escape

If you like a freebie and have 2.8+, not having the use of mainstream homebrew can be a little depressing sometimes. That's why we bring you PSP demos such as the latest gem from Sony - an Ape Academy 2 demo which includes a two player mode! Yes, the latest demo to adorn your PSP features a banana catching minigame which you can play either on your own in solitary single player mode or with a human friend.

Ape Academy 2 is the newest addition to the Ape Escape series which is coming exclusively for the PSP this fall, although no specific release date has been announced by Sony as of yet. We have heard little from this game since May 2006 after E3, so this update in the form of a multiplayer demo is welcome. This game would not run on our testbed PSP system running firmware 2.71 through Devhook, and according to the error message we received this demo requires at least firmware 2.81.

Ape Escape 2 - Image 1Ape Escape Academy 2 is the sequel to Ape Escape Academy. Both games are collections of minigames that can be played as single player games or as party games: up to four players can connect via WiFi to get into the fun.

The game was developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Japan">SCEJ (Sony Entertainment Studios Japan) and by Shift (we're not sure about Shift, but some of us are wondering if it's a studio owned by Sony or a team within SCEJ - don't quote us on that - we're just guessing). The game is published by SCEI (Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. - the "Sony" everybody talks about when they say "Sony" in relation to games).

The game has been out in Japan since December of 2005. The official release date in Australia is October 19, 2006.

The US release date seems to keep escaping. Some expected the North American release to happen at or about the same time as the Australian release, but it seems as if the game won't be released in the US until some time in 2007.

Ape Escape Academy 2 is the newest addition to the Ape Escape series made solely for the PlayStation Portable. This game will feature over 100 minigame types that can be played via single player or two player modes. The two-player mode of the game can use either just one or two separate machines. There is also a card-game face-off against the Piposaurus apes which will determine the next minigame you'll have to play.

Check out these Ape Escape Academy 2 screenshots. The game will be released at year's end.

Looks like Sony is trying to tease the Ape Escape fans by releasing a Ape Academy 2 Logo today at E3 with no information about the title what so ever. They also released two pieces of character art, which is the same default monkey that everyone who has played any of the Ape games knows and loves. Hopefully they will release more information soon about the title and when they do we'll let you know.
