FIFA 07

We've all been swept with the Football Fever some months back at Germany. We all witness soccer sensation Ronaldinho and Brazil fall under the hands (or should I say feet?) of smooth-player Zinedine Zidane and France, and wonderkid Wayne Rooney and England (along with the WAGS) trampled by Portugal. Italy later on bagged the coveted cup (with small thanks from the infamous headbutt of Zidane to trash-talking Marco Materazzi). Italians rejoiced and the rest of the world wept. The cup changed hands and everybody was sold to the idea that it'll be another four more years before such fever grips the whole planet - or not.

Come September 29, fans of the game can relive the glory of football via EA's release of FIFA 07; a game that promises to give gamers "the rollercoaster ride of the football season". This latest installment is packed with new intelligent AI ensuring that your 11 men on the pitch make realistic decisions finding space and passing like professionals. A complete overhaul of the game engine now means that you have to employ real world tactics, make split-second decisions and think like a player in order to win matches.

New features such as Manager Mode allows the player to manage a team based on realistic player values and wages. Some of your decisions have the power to affect performance of your virtual players, so it's always a must to see that all footballers under your team are taken care of and well-compensated. Aiming for more realism, the big-named players will have their signature moves fused to their virtual counterparts; so don't be surprised to see Ronaldinho dazzling everyone with his ball-handling skill, or maybe even Rooney kicking some crotch ad Zidane headbutting chests (oppss, wrong signature moves).

LampardUp until now, LeBron James has been my sports poster boy. The Cavaliers frontman may now have to share his space in my bedroom wall with England's star midfielder, Frank Lampard. Born in Chelsea, Lampard is acknowledged as one of the most improved players in English football in the past three years.

As an England national team regular, he is famous for his goal scoring; as of December 3, 2005, he has scored 129 career goals, 60 of which are for Chelsea and 10 for England. He is, however, more than just a goal-scorer; he is a complete midfielder with excellent box-to-box qualities.

With the launch of PlayStation Portable's 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany (which is also available for the Xbox 360 and will also come to Nintendo DS and mobile phones), you won't only get to see Lampard's face adorn the English game pack, you'll also get a chance to play alongside him or against him. To coincide with the game's launch, Electronic Arts sat the English player to answer some questions.

EA have released lots of new screenshots for their upcoming world cup FIFA title for the PSP: 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany. The football game, due for release later on this month. Personally, i can't wait to get my hands on another FIFA title for the PSP. Fifa 06 seriously disappointed me - the concept was good, and a football game for the PSP should have been a great idea. The only problem was that the control system was completely off. Hopefully with this release EA will have cleared up the bugs in FIFA's control system for the PSP.

IGN has had a sit down with FIFA World Cup producer Tim Ginn on what we can look forward to when the most anticipated soccer title comes to the PSP. For starters, they mean it when they say "World" cup... 127 countries will be highlighted, not to mention the 12 official stadiums used in Germany. But what does the PSP version have over the graphically superior console versions?

"The Global Challenge mode features 127 specific challenges which are three times as many challenges as the console version. So instead of 40 challenges on the consoles you'll have 127. This mode is very challenging and you will have to have a very good player to complete a lot of these, especially with the time pressures and situations we have created."

FIFA 2006For those PSP owners who can't wait for the FIFA 2006, we got some gameplay movies available for download just for your viewing pleasure. Hear the crowd roaring together with the (background music) playing as they cheer your team to be one of the 32 teams aiming to win the World Cup. With astounding (visuals), this game will surely hit the goal and now , these gameplay movies certainly arouses the urge to play this latest installment (you have to download it so that you'll understand what I feel).

Moving on, the first two movies shows a game between USA vs. CZE scoring 1-0 respectively. At trailer 1, you'll see USA and the CZE battling at mid field until USA breaks that stalemate and runs toward the goal. Unfortunately, CZE kicked it out of bounds. Trailer 2 almost has the same description as trailer 1 but the difference is that it's USA turn to kick it out of bounds and it occurred in mid field but the highlight is that the game ends when CZE starts to put the ball in play and the displayed players walking back to their respective locker rooms and not only that it showed the highlights of the game too.

Trailer 3 takes us at a game between GER and TA as it starts off with a tripping violation (only a yellow card) and given a free kick except the player wasn't able to capitalize and the other team got the ball. So it comes down again in the mid field as the two teams goes head to head in control over the ball until another tripping violation happened but it showed a cut-scene where 2 players are arguing and the ref starts talking to them as the video fades there. All in all, FIFA 2006 is very smooth in terms of both gameplay and graphical transitions for a handheld game. Even though the textures looks a bit low res, it still captures why we love this series. Just wait a little longer soccer fans for FIFA 2006 will be kicking through the market at April 24, 2006.

I used to write posts about upcoming titles weekly, then I ask myself, why do I have to write them weekly, when I can post the upcoming titles for the whole month?! So here it goes (although a part of me is saying no, because that’ll mean less posts – and less cash), the whole list of upcoming titles for PSP this month:

PSPanatics can start wielding baseball bats with Major League Baseball 2K6 this April 13. The latest version packs realistic movement system, flashback replays, and the player morale mode that highlights the game’s drama. It will also have the first full Franchise mode for long-term play and adds a new Home Run Derby Career Mode.

More titles after the jump.
