The latest Godzilla Unleashed developers blog discussed the experiences of the members of Pipeworks Software with the Godzilla franchise. A few questions related with the video game issued by fans were also answered. All members of the crew had their own Godzilla memories to share, with some even claiming the green lizard had a major impact in their lives. For example, Creative Director Mark Crowe spoke about how he will never forget the thrill of seeing his first Godzilla movie and how it still influences everything he does today. Game producer Shelby Stair Wills also took the opportunity to address followers of the Godzilla Unleashed community who inquired about the length of an in-game day, the cost of various abilities such as flying, and the possibility of using music from old Godzilla movies. Wills said that an encounter (or a battle) is equal to an in-game day. Each encounter varies in length from one to 10 minutes depending on the type of encounter and what the player does. Unfortunately, the video game developer didn't give any examples on what encounters we can expect to find so we'll just have to wait till the game is released to find out. Wills also mentioned that flying will not cost any energy for monsters (such as Mothra or Fire Rodan) since this is their only way to move around the map. Much to the disappointment of many old school Godzilla fans, Wills said that they won't be using music from old Godzilla movies since it doesn't fit with the edgy and darker tone they were going for in this game. He pointed out however that the new tracks should still be cool with every monster having its own theme song. Godzilla Unleashed (PSP, Wii, Nintendo DS) will be released this November 13 in the U.S. and November 22 in Europe. |

Pipeworks Software has been feeding fans regular updates on Godzilla: Unleashed (Wii, PSP, Nintendo DS) through their developer's blog on IGN. Their latest entry posted by the title's producer, Shelby Stair Willis, discussed custom game modes - a feature that they've been planning to put in ever since Godzilla: Save the Earth. While the option to jump straight into a standard multiplayer battle (called Brawl) is still available, players looking for a more unique experience will be treated to a variety of modifiable options. Among them include the number of lives each monster has as well as the victory conditions for the map. Here are a few of the other options that players can tweak as taken from the developer's blog:
This game looks to be a lot of fun, judging from the revealed features they've announced. In case this got your interest, you might want to know that Godzilla: Unleashed will be released this November 13 in North America with a European debut following on November 22. Pipeworks Software knows that Godzilla: Unleashed is all about the monsters. The producer of the game Shelby Stair Willis confirmed this notion in their developers blog as he recently detailed how they designed Krystalak, one of the monsters they're introducing in the game. Amazingly, this is the first monster not designed by Toho, the creators of Godzilla. The developers had a long history with the company since they did work together on the previous two Godzilla games. Because of this they were given the chance to add their own creation to the Toho line-up of monsters. Willis said that they wanted to create the monster to be specifically tied into the storyline of Godzilla: Unleashed. Since the game's storyline revolves around crystals, Krystalak was created as a crystal monster. To strengthen its connection to the crystals, the developers decided that it was spawned by the same meteor shower that started the strange crystal growths all over the world. The developers went though a couple of redesigns before finally settling on their final product - a two-legged behemoth with a catlike leg structure. This monster can normally be found crouching, which makes him smaller than Godzilla, but it towers over even the Big G himself when it stands erect. The monster looks pretty well designed and is a worthy addition to the line-up of monsters under Toho's belt. Godzilla: Unleashed looks to be one hell of a game, and is slated to be out this year on the PSP, Wii, and Nintendo DS. Pipeworks Software has been hard at work with Godzilla: Unleashed. In the recent post on the developers' blog, they announced quite a few updates on the game that fans would want to hear about. The first thing they discussed was the new water tech that they've developed.
They believe that it looks spectacular, and after seeing the screenshots, we can't help but agree. The look of the water has long been a problem for the developers and they're really proud about what they've accomplished this time. In addition to this, they've also gotten the look of the various types of crystals in the game worked out. It looks like they've been burning the midnight oil on this update as well since they had to write new crystal shaders not to mention rework the shapes, textures, animations, and particle effects of the crystals. Furthermore, the developers have given word that there are many types of crystals in the game and we'll be seeing more of it as we creep closer to the launch date. Speaking of which, the game will be released within the year on the PSP, Wii, and the Nintendo DS. If you want to read the entire developers blog post, feel free to click on our Read link below. |

Gamers who have been waiting for updates on Atari's Godzilla Unleashed, rejoice. The developers of the game at Pipeworks Software have released some information on how the game is getting along in terms of its development. First up is an update on the Atari site. It seems that lead animator Armando has been busy finishing up the renders of the monsters both in the game and on the site. It might interest you to note that the monster portraits and animations there were actually developed in-house using in-game models and animations. In addition to this, he has been very busy with fixing up the bracing/blocking animations for each character. Another thing fans of the game might be interested in is the fact that they have already finished implementing all of the different game types. Among the topics discussed for this were certain team game scenarios where players share points. The game modes have been reworked a bit so now players have more options on setting time limits and victory conditions. For those who have been wondering about the PSP version, worry not. The guys at Pipeworks have said that they are working very hard to fit in all of the updates they have done in the handheld version. The guys were also nice enough to answer a few concerns regarding the game's development. For example, there was a question about its replayability since previous iterations of Godzilla games were a bit weak in terms of the campaign mode. The developers are hoping to change that by including the branching storyline and more interesting missions. They have mentioned building up your character to the point where you'll be duking it out with three monsters - now that's the Godzilla we all remember and love. They also discussed a multitude of other things that they have been doing with the game. If you are interested in reading more, feel free to click on our read link. The game is slated to be released for the PSP, Nintendo DS, and Wii this year. Be sure to keep checking back here for more updates on Godzilla Unleashed. |
