Released this May in North America, Legend of the Dragon from The Game Factory and Neko Entertainment is a new fighting game for the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP), Nintendo Wii, and PS2. We previously had a chat with the developers of the game, and they pretty much convinced us to get the game and play it.

What's Legend of the Dragon all about? Based on the animated TV series, this game is your typical battle between good and evil, but with a lot of twists in the plot and gameplay. There are 18 playable characters in the game, all of whom can transform into mythical warriors with the power of the Zodiac they represent. Your goal is to defeat the Zodiac Master who plans to take the power of the 12 Zodiac guardians. There are 8 different game modes and three multiplayer modes in Legend of the Dragon, so the game's really worth a look.

If you still aren't sure if you want to buy the video game even with all that said, we've got a lot of screenshots here that might change your mind. Europe will be getting the game first week of June.

Thanks to the magic elves that govern the inner workings of postal services the world over, we finally got our preview copy of the PSP version of The Game Factory and Neko Entertainment's Legend of the Dragon. Yeah, it was a few weeks later than we expected but hey, a new game's a new game.

Legend of the Dragon is a new fighting game for the Sony PSP (it's also slated for release on the Sony PS2 and the Nintendo Wii). The game is based on the Bohbot Kids Network (BKN) animated series of the same name and features 18 characters from the show.

When Karl B. mentioned that Legend of the Dragon (for the PSP, Wii, and PS2) would have "magical armbands and kung-fu monkeys," he wasn't kidding. In fact, not only would there be Jet Li-ified chimps, but also oxen, tigers, and the rest of the cast in the Chinese zodiacs. The game is, after all, based on the BKN animated series of the same name.

To see all of those zodiacs doing martial arts (complete with the whole spell-casting gameplay too), here's the second trailer for Legend of the Dragon. Now we get to see how all of its unique features are played out. Check out all those lighting effects every time they transform. Pretty, huh?

Legend of the Dragon packshot - Image 1Can't wait for Legend of the Dragon? We'll here another batch of screenshots to tide you over until then.

The Game Factory's Legend of the Dragon is based from the BKN animated series of the same name. The premise is pretty simple. The story centers on twins Ang and Ling (who turns to the dark side). Plus an evil Zodiac Master plots to get the power bands from the 12 Zodiac to revive the Emperor of the Darkest Yin (the name itself should give you an idea).

Anyway, Legend of the Dragon will make an appearance on the PSP, Wii and PS2. The PSP and Wii versions are slated for a May 1 release in North America, while Europe stores get it May 18. While waiting, might as well check out the screens.

The battle between good and evil has been fought countless times, by countless representatives, on countless battlefields. This year, the battle's taking place against the prosaic backdrop of China's sacred temples. The combatants? A young warrior stands ready at the side of good, while an evil magician musters his forces to achieve dominion over the world.

OK, enough with the flowery prose. We managed to score an interview with The Game Factory, the team behind Legend of the Dragon, the upcoming fighting game for the Sony PSP and Nintendo Wii. Legend of the Dragon is based on the BKN animated series of the same name and features lightning-fast martial arts action, beautiful graphics, and innovative RPG-style mechanics. Oh, and magic armbands and kung-fu monkeys, too.

For those familiar with the series Legend of the Dragon by BKN, here's a treat for you. It's bit too late for the Chinese new year but hey, here's some new info about the Legend of the Dragon.

For the unfamiliar, the story starts with Ang and Ling Leung who happens to be twins. Ang gets chosen to be the Golden Dragon and Ling - in her disappointment, joins the forces of Woo Yin. Storyline centers on the 12 Chinese zodiac signs. In game, they have each have a temple and a temple guardian who turns into the zodiac they represent with the skills to match.

Legend of the Dragon from The Game Factory will feature 18 playable characters (each transforming into a temple guardian), three wireless multiplayer modes, four single player modes (quest being one), 18 battle arenas (completely destructible) and a responsive weather dynamic environment system. Also unique to this fighting game is a unique special moves system. Unlockable content includes a complete episode from the TV series' first season.

There's also the real time spell casting system, transformations, team and tag battles, total of eight game modes, WiFi multiplayer (for the PSP), and motion sensor controls (for the Wii). Ready to thwart the Zodiac Master's evil plans? Legend of the Dragon is set for release around March. While we wait, here's a load of screens.

For those who are hoping for a PS2 version of the game, we have some bad news for you. Apparently, the PS2 outing of the game has been cancelled, but at least they are still coming out on the PSP and the Wii.

Anyhow, for those of you who don't know, the game is inspired by an animated TV version of the BKN show of the same name. We might not have any PSP screens, but we do have some character arts and background images of the Wii version. Well, here they are. We'll update you as soon as more info, screens, and videos pour in...I have a feeling that we'll be updating you soon.

Legend of the Dragon

For fans of the animated TV version of the BKN show, Legend of the Dragon, then step right up as we have a new set of screenshots for you to check out.

Set to be released on the PS2, the Wii, and the PSP by March 3, 2007, this video game spin-off by Freak Frog studios features the set of characters whom followers of the series are familiar with. This time around though, the main characters Ang Leung and Ling Leung are tested as Ang is chosen to be the next Golden Dragon, while Ling is being tempted to join the forces of the evil Zodiac Master.

And so the story goes. In any case, here's the screenshots for your perusal.

It's been quite a while since we last heard updates for Legend of the Dragon for the PSP. Having watched a couple of episodes of the TV show the game is based on, we can tell that the game's 3D animation matches the graphics style of the show, which we think is one great way to lure the fans into buying the game.

The Legend of the Dragon is centered on the signs of the ancient Chinese zodiac, each supposedly holding great mystical powers. The Zodiac Master yearns to attain these powers to make him virtually unstoppable. Chinese martial arts student Ang, who's chosen to be the next Golden Dragon, stands in the way of the Zodiac Master. Ang's twin sister Ling was lured to the dark side when her brother was chosen over her, and thus the stage is set for this battle between good and evil.

We think that the game has potential especially with such storyline, but we still wonder how it can stand out from the crowd of fighting games out in the market. Gamers are quite the picky lot, so if the game doesn't offer much new material, then they'll stick to the well-known (and proven) fighting game/action-adventure games, and/or turn their focus to newer, more interesting games. That said, we think this game has a fighting chance, pardon the pun, and we'll give Legend of the Dragon a try when it comes out later this year. Until then, check out these screenshots released by The Game Factory.
