Here's some good news to those who are looking for PSP emulators: Actaron's PSP emulator for the PC, Sam, can finally run homebrew games and applications (previous update here). It's quite a great feat, considering that the last release of Sam was only a few days ago. More details in the full article.Download: Sam v1.0.0.1 |

Remember the work that Sony PlayStation Portable coder ector put into creating a Sony PSP emulator
for the PC? It's been a while since we last heard news about it until
we learned that ector released the source code for the project
recently. The coder said he didn't have the time to pursue it anymore,
that's why he released the code. That means everyone's free to tinker
with the unfinished emulator for improvements and hardware emulation.Read the full story and download the source after the jump! |

I had a short talk with Matt Farrow, the author of PSPemu, a PSP emulator for PC & XBox about his current progress.
Basically, he did something much more than the old ELF interpreter can do, and tried to build his own firmware infrastructure by disassembling and reorganizing the official firmware. Currently he has implemented the basic functionality of Game, Music, Video, Photo and Network. When talked about the emulation of a commercial game, he mentioned that he invented a new format which comes with .UMD as the file extension. This format will be converted from game ISOs using his own tool, which will bring file compression support to shrink the size of an ISO. But in the mean time, you can still stick to good-old ISOs using all kinds of loaders inside the emulator. Currently, the emulation speed is fairly slow, around 4 fps. So far he only got Lumines running, but slow as hell. He said he will not release the emulator until the emulator can achieve 15 fps. Some other features, like WiFi support, will not be supported in the incoming beta version, since it's too much work for an individual to complete. In the end, he said the emulation speed might be able to achieve "perfect" in February of 2006, which was a bit too far to see ;) -------------------------------- Well... Personally, the information above is still not enough to convince me that such a fancy emulator really exists. Maybe, at least, some screenshot will make us feel it's existence, and Matt agreed with that. For more information on PSPemu, the official website is [here]. Thanks for the interview, and, wish you a good luck on the development, Matt! :) |

Pspe v0.8 is the latest version of the PSP ELF interpreter (Useful for running homebrew apps on your PC, also known as the PSP Emulator even though it isn?t actually is one. It is the closest thing we have and can run most homebrew apps.) New in ths version was a bios fix (Lseek etc), and they added some debug stuff for development.
