Walk the Plank

I guess not even Johnny Depp's charm can save Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest from harsh critiques of some gamers. Typically, games that have been adapted from the movies are of poor quality, appealing only to die hard fans of the films. It is rather unfortunate that this swashbuckler has fallen the same path.

Battle scenes were pretty much follows this order - speed attack, strength move and stun maneuver. And if you keep on doing that for hours on end, you'll just eventually get bored. Add to that the game's inconsistent framerate, it was not only distracting, but unsightly as well. Maybe, to break the battles' monotony, puzzles were inserted into the game. Although the intention was good, the sloppy controls made it impossible for players to accomplish the tasks with ease and ends up getting frustrated, not at the puzzle games, but with the controls.

One thing keeping this game afloat is its multiplayer option. Using one game disk, you and three other friends, can engage in an epic sea battle, much like in the movie. You can even take the helm of the legendary Black Pearl if you were able to unlock it single-player mode or take control of Davy Jones' Flying Dutchman.

Overall, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is a playable game but not enough to save it from walking the plank.

Pirates Of The Caribbean Dead Mans Chest

After the trailer from earlier today, we now have a new bunch of screens of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. They are all pictures taken from the unique multiplayer mode. In the single-player mode mode, players take the role of important movie characters - Jack Sparrow, Will Turner or Elizabeth Swann, and explore and brawl across land and sea in search of the legendary Dead Man's Chest.

Multiplayer mode will be a unique, different experience by combining action and strategy gameplay as opponents choose from a selection of ammunition and power-ups in order to destroy their foes on the high sea. Supporting up to 4 players via wireless mode, these battles should provide endless fun after the main single-player game is beaten.

Have you seen the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest movie trailer? We can't get over that ourageous calamare-faced  Davy Jones! Now let's go to the PSP vesrion of Pirates. The game re-creates the plot of the upcoming movie and combines fighting with puzzle-solving which E3 demo reviews said was a good and fun combat requiring memory and a sense of strategy. In the single-player PSP gameplay you take on the the role of cool Captain Jack Sparrow and swish your sword through 11 action levels picking up various weapons as you go. One such "weapon" are bottles of rhum which can be used to stun the bad guys. There will be around eight hours of gameplay to get through and special bonus at the end for the multiplayer game.

The multiplayer game is completely different and takes place in the high seas. You've get three different types of ammunition to choose from that could sink your opponent, destroy his masts, or dispose of the crew with no damage to the ship.  As you sail around, various power-ups and treasure are available for the taking. The gold you collect (or steal from your opponents - you ARE a pirate) can be used for repairs and upgrades ready for the next round. The power-ups provides short-term advantages such as extra speed or the ability to ram without incurring damage. The game supports four-player wireless battles (the computer takes over spare slots) which lead to more marine mayhem.

There's only one person cooler than Xena: Warrior Princess, and that's Cap'n Jack Sparrow. So cue exciting music, kids jumping up and down on the sofa, human sacrifice, dogs and cats sleeping together, mass hysteria cus Jack's back!

I luv me a good pirate yarn, and it seems Disney and Buena Vista Games are going to be supplying just that with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Expect swashbuckling adventure on the high seas and on your PSP's this summer!

Today we bring you 3 new Pirates of the Caribbean screenshots. The game is based off of the movie that is due out soon and from the looks of it seems to live up to the expectations. Fans of the films and previous games will not be disappointed since the game features moments from the movie and also expands upon the Pirates of the Caribbean universe.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is an action adventure game based on the movie, Pirates of the Caribbean. A trailer has been released for the game that will span across the portable formats, being developed for PSP, DS, and GBA.

The PSP game features extremely eccentric Captain Jack Sparrow, the dashing Will Turner, and the feisty Elizabeth Swann as they search the legendary (are there any other kind?) treasure, the Dead Man's Chest, through 10 stages. The PSP version of the game also has a four player ad-hoc multiplayer mode, which is sure to bring in the gold. “This completely different "ship-versus-ship" mini-game bears a striking resemblance to Sid Meier's Pirates but with even more stuff to play with. Ten different maps, customizable ships, and the option to invade your foes ships with crewmates sounds like a lot of fun to us, and it sure plays like it too.” - IGN

The short trailer shows in-game footage of Captain Jack Sparrow swinging, jumping, climbing, and sword-fighting his way through an island jungle.

Pirates of the Carribean 3Take out your eye patches and wooden pegs, pirates could be back in vogue when Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (yes, it’s based on the movie) lands ashore. Buena Vista announced the release of the game sometime after the movie sequel hits the theater this summer.

The PSP game features eye-liner wearing Captain Jack Sparrow, the dashing Will Turner and the feisty Elizabeth Swann as they search the legendary (are there any other kind?) treasure, the Dead Man's Chest, through 10 stages.

The treasure is the only thing that could set Sparrow free from his servitude to Mr. Davy Jones (for helping the campiest pirate we've seen ever locate the Black Pearl). The game mixes unforgettable scenes from the hit movie as well as exciting new adventures and locations. Previews of Pirates of the Caribbean said it captures the spirit of the movie pretty well.

But what intrigued game test drivers about Pirates of the Caribbean the most is its ad hoc multiplayer mode which can support four players at same time. “This completely different "ship-versus-ship" mini-game bears a striking resemblance to Sid Meier's Pirates but with even more stuff to play with. Ten different maps, customizable ships, and the option to invade your foes ships with crewmates sounds like a lot of fun to us, and it sure plays like it too.” Whether the game will sail smoothly or sink like the Titanic (the actual ship, not the movie) in the hands of landlubbers remains to be seen.
