Power Stone Collection

IGN recently talked with Power Stone Collection Producer, Kazuhiro Tsuchiya. Good news is, the PSP game wasn't altered that much to retain that good old Power Stone feel that fans have been used to. Oh yeah, the difficulty was altered a bit to make it more manageable, but that's it.

Tsuchiya said that they "didn't go overboard to avoid changing the game, but had to balance it a little bit to make it feel more like a Collection than two completely different games." Cool, eh? It seems that these guys are paying a lot of attention to customer feedback, and for that we give them two thumbs up.

He adds that the the PSP's button layout is well-suited for the game, and they were "happy with the result". Hopefully, many fans will appreciate all their hard work, and will clamor for more Capcom Dreamcast games ported to the PSP. In the end, user demand will determine whether they shall continue making doing PSP versions of previous Capcom games, so better let them know that you like to keep 'em coming, alright?

On a final note, here's what he has to say for curious "onlookers" who want to try out the game for the first time:

The collection itself is fun and the illustration/graphic style of the Power Stone universe together with its unique characters enhances the atmosphere. We did our best to recreate the experience that so many fans appreciated back when it first came out and I think fans new to the series will appreciate as well.

Hope that one's got you convinced, guys. It's expected to hit shelves really soon (like the 31st of October soon), so maybe you'd want to check it out once it's released.

You've seen a whole lot of artwork for Capcom's Power Stone Collection in this site. Now, take a deep breath as we bring you 27 new screenshots of the game fresh from the Tokyo Game Show!

That may definitely seem like a lot to handle, but the opportunity's just too good to pass up. This game is actually a compilation, including enhanced versions of Power Stone and Power Stone 2, which were originally released for the Sega Dreamcast and arcades. For the PSP version, there will be a multiplayer support via the handheld's ad hoc mode, and thus, the stakes are raised to a no holds barred battles level.

Utilizing a simple control scheme, players can execute standard moves such as punches and kicks. However, the deeper power struggle comes in the form of "power stones". Fighter will then have to collect these gems in order to tip the scales in their favor. Having three in their possession transforms them into super fighters with devastating power moves. In addition, there is a variety of weapons, as well as the ability to use environments in creative ways, allowing for an "incredible level of freedom and depth beyond the typical fighting game".

The Power Stone Collection is expected to be release in North America by October.

Power Stone Collection
is on show at the Tokyo Game Show right now and Capcom is even allowing people who visit to download a playable demo! For those who don't know, this game is a collection of the two Power Stone games for the Dreamcast. It's a frenetic brawler that's perfect for parties! The PSP version will feature multiplayer via wireless ad-hoc mode.

Arcade mode in Power Stone is a single-player campaign in which you face off against CPU controlled opponents to unlock secrets. The secrets include (but aren't limited to) weapons, characters, galleries, and additional modes. Versus mode allows you to play against a friend in head to head wireless play. Multiplayer in Power Stone is limited to two players.

The PSP version has a new user interface that features an improved health bar and radar system. The most welcome addition is the appearance of four new characters in Power Stone 2. That's right, the four additional characters in Power Stone 2 are playable in Power Stone/

psGamespot had a chance to play some nearly finished copies of the Power Stone Collection which, for those who don't know, includes the enhanced version of Power Stone and Power Stone 2, which was originally released for the Dreamcast, as well as unlockable bonus content. And from what they've seen and experienced, it looks like the games are every bit as good, if not better than, their 1999 and 2000 counterparts. So enough with this intro, let's get down to the games' aspects:

Environments (both games): Objects can be thrown or slid toward enemies, but there are also immovable interactive objects; poles to can swing from, hazards to force your opponents into, and--in the second game--gun turrets that you can climb into. Treasure chests contain food items or weapons which include the titular power stones that transform your character into a superhuman fighter.

Power Stone Gameplay, Controls, and Characters: Mainly one-on-one fights, and at the outset, there'll be eight characters to choose from: Falcon, Ayame, Wang-Tang, Gunrock, Jack, Galuda, Rouge, and Ryoma. All characters have the same controls (but with different speeds and styles): jump, grab, kick, and punch on the face buttons, power fusion moves on the shoulders. There are unlockable additional characters by playing through the story mode. Weapons include ray guns, soccer balls, machine guns, and power shields. Unique features for the PSP that weren't in the originals include health meters and a small radar that points to power stones off-screen.

Power Stone Gameplay Modes: Story mode, CPU mode where you can fight against any opponent in your chosen environment, a training mode, and an ad hoc network mode for head-to-head fights against your friends. Customization options available ahead of each battle include time limits, number of rounds, damage levels, and screen formats, and you can also turn the new radar on or off. Also, there are no fewer than eight difficulty settings.

Devil May Cry 4

With the Tokyo Game Show getting closer and closer, another title has been confirmed to make an appearance as a playable game at the said event, and right now, we're just happy to hear that Devil May Cry 4 (DMC4) will be gracing gamers with its presence.

Capcom has just announced that there will be several playable units for DMC4 at the show floor when the Playstation 3 makes its public debut in the country. The event, which will run from September 22 to 24 is expected to draw large numbers of gamers and game news reporters, so Capcom decided to put on their best face, which just so happened to be Dante's and his equally-good-looking alter ego, Nero's.

In any case, other titles at the show that can be added on top of Sony's PS3 list, are the following:

Rockman

Capcom has announced its lineup for the Tokyo Game Show, which includes mostly heavy hitting games from their major franchises. Check out the list:
Is that Gyakuten Saiban 4 on the list? Why yes, it is! For those who don't know, that's the fourth game in the Phoenix Wright series, although it will likely become the Ace Attorney series once the game finally hits North America. Interestingly, it seems that the protagonist is no longer Phoenix.

PSP fans should also be happy about all the support their getting as well. Power Stone Collection especially is making former Dreamcast owners giddy with excitement. The next gen people will be getting quite a treat with Devil May Cry 4 and Lost Planet. It seems that Capcom is making sure TGS is good for gamers.

Most people's experience with Power Stone was either with Sega, Dreamcast, or in arcades. Either way, the more players, the better the fun. It also had a television show with Fokker as the main character. The '90s was very good to this franchise.

Just like Ultimate Ghosts n' Goblins, this classic game will also be reincarnated in the PSP. Both Power Stone sequels and characters will be included in the one UMD. Multiplayer will be available via- ad hoc wireless.

Gameplay? Why change something that's already excellent? Four players run around the setting, get chairs, megaphones, etc. and throw them into the opponent. Players also need to collect Power Stones to up their abilities. Collect three Power Stones and the character becomes a more powerful version of themselves.

Game will be released October this year. For now, here are some screenshots and videos we've prepared just for you.

A whole bunch of new screens for Power Stone Collection have appeared courtesy of Capcom at E3. A classic 3D fighting game from Capcom, Power Stone is an outrageous beat-'em-up style game where players go head to head against an opponent in best of three round match ups. Arcade mode allows a single character to put their skills to the test against a lineup of computer controlled opponents, while versus battles allow chaotic multiplayer bouts in the dangerous and weapon-filled arenas. Power Stone was one of the greatest games for Dreamcast in my opinion and I will need to play it when it comes out for the PSP, but hopefully I won't have to update my 1.5 when the time comes. Go ahead and click on the thumbnails below to get a closer view of how Power Stone and it's 4 player fighting action will look on Sony's handheld.

I remember playing Power Stone on my Dreamcast back in the day. It was such a great fighting game and it offered something new to think about, what with its world objects and the three collectible stones for the super powers. Capcom is re-releasing the Power Stone games from the DC to the PSP and Gamespot was there to give this title's demo a spin.

This new title offers more content than the original titles yet stays true to form. Power Stone Collection is faithful to the previous titles, which should make the fans very happy. Gamespot's preview was of course limited but still gives us a tantalizing glimpse of what's to come.

Here's a snippet from the preview:

The presentation is coming together well from what we've seen. The game's sharp look is right at home on the PSP. However, at the moment, there are some texture and resolution issues that keep the game from looking like a perfect conversion. Still, minor elements aside, the game's performance is pretty smooth even now, which bodes well for the future. At the same time, the game's audio appears to be nailing the voice and sound effects from the Dreamcast version, which isn't too surprising.
