Now we all know that Jerry Bruckheimer, renowned producer and cinema visionary, had the Prince of Persia franchise under his wing for a long time now. Under the watching eyes of Disney, the movie is being primed for a blockbuster release this coming 2008 in summer. Probably a first of three movies to come, "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" will take us into a more immersive world behind the story of the beginning of the Sands of Time trilogy. According to a couple of sites, including BadTaste.it, the movie may just be looking to be a great production after all, despite rumors of just maturing in the pre-production stages. The following images below may or may not reflect in the final movie (although we have confirmed that they are concept art straight from Walt Disney Studios), but the works show just how much intricate detail they plan to put into the costumes and settings. Click on Full Article to view the concept art and some information we dug up on the movie. |

Yet another game title is on its way to the fancy land of Hollywood. Ubisoft's fantasy/adventure franchise has reportedly caught the eye of Jerry Bruckheimer, the same guy who launched the ships of Pirates of the Caribbean. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is said to be the one off to the moviehouse. For those of you not in the know, the plot is set in medieval Persia, a time when they ruled the world as the superpower. It's also deemed to be the most mysterious kingdom, with lots of drama and action, such as the downfall from power of the Maharajah, as well as the kidnapping of his daughter. With a looted palace of priceless treasure, one controversial hourglass, and a mysterious dagger, the stage is certainly set for one heck of an adventure. Now, we've all had one disappointment or another with movie adaptations of our much-beloved games (Uwe Boll's "House of the Dead," anyone?). Here's hoping that this one won't go kaput at the box office, especially since the game's creator, Jordan Mechner, actually provided script with the supervision of screenwriter John August. It is also said that it is Disney's and Bruckheimer Films' hope that this adaptation "could then lead to a new hit series of movies for the studio." The two media outfits are now getting ready to set the production wheels in full motion for the target release of Summer 2008. Keep it posted here for more updates on this. |

A few days back, we dish out the latest trailer of Ubisoft's upcoming action-adventure game for the Wii, Prince of Persia: Rival Swords. The vid gave us a general idea of how to take control of your Wiimotes when the time comes that you'll be picking it out from the game store and trying it out. Now, game producer Ben Mattes talks with 1up about Ubisoft's plan for the game, how the control works, and how the Wii version is different from the PSP port of the same name. When talking about any Wii game, there has gotta be a talk about the game's motion control functions. For Prince of Persia Wii Mr. Mattes mentioned that some of the game's action are tied to the buttons of the Wiimote and nunchuck, but a lot of the game's core mechanics will be controlled with motion. He continues by saying: Speed Kills, for example, use the Nunchuck to initiate [the attack], and timed strikes with the Remote in order to complete the multi-hit combos...The 'Dagger Plant' move by the Prince has always been a favorite of mine and is now made all the more intuitive and satisfying by the fact that you must strike (in a stabbing fashion) with the Remote in order to plant your dagger in the wall. When using the Dark Prince's Chain Swing ability, too, the motion control is used -- for each swing the Dark Prince does, the player must strike with the Nunchuck. Okay, admittedly, our coverage of Prince of Persia: Rival Swords hasn't exactly been intensive (but hey, we DID bring you the very first batch of screens for the game! Heehee). And it really pains us to finally come out with an update bearing bad news to all you PoP fanatics out there. Said to be originally slated for release December 21st of this year, we heard news that it was pushed back to a 2007 release. And don't worry, we're not here to report that it has been pushed back even further, only that, well, there's still no exact release date for us here in the U.S. But our lucky French fellas has a set release date though, and they'll get their hands on Rival Swords come January 11 next year. Still no news yet on when Rival Swords will land on U.S. shores, but we're definitely keeping our fingers crossed that we'll also have a release date around the same time that the game hits France. But then again if we're just wishing here, we'd want the game to be released this month, won't we? Haha. Don'tcha worry though, we'll keep you posted for more. |
