Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has been real busy today, with one game announcement after another. This time, they're dishing out some android-busting action courtesy of Rengoku II: Stairway to H.E.A.V.E.N.This sequel to Rengoku: The Tower of Purgatory expands upon the first game's fast-paced action, adding more than 300 unique weapon combinations and all-new level designs. The new multiplayer functionality also allows up to four players to engage in competitive combat through the PSP ad-hoc wireless system. Players can also wirelessly share portions of the game with other PSP owners to compete against friends that do not own the game. Downloadable content including maps, weapons and items will be also made available through the PSP infrastructure mode, letting players continue A.D.A.M.’s quest in new environments with additional equipment. The ascent begins when Rengoku II: Stairway to H.E.A.V.E.N. hits shelves in October. For a sneak peek, check out the third trailer for this game here. |

Hudson Soft and Konami better have added some redeeming factor to this followup to Rengoku: The Tower of Purgatory, which didn't actually made a very good impression on a lot of PSP gamers. Hopefully this one will go a different route.

Rengoku 2, by Konami and Hudson, is the sequel to the android action game Rengoku: The Tower of Purgatory
on PSP. the game expands upon the series' trademark fast-paced action
and
incredible replay value with more than 300 unique weapons, diverse
level design and additional multiplayer functionality in a dark and
futuristic setting. Rengoku 2 tells a story parallel to the events of
Tower of Purgatory,
as players assume the role of A.D.A.M., a battle android trapped in a
mysterious tower filled with fearsome enemies. This tower has eight
floors, with the first seven levels corresponding to one of the
original Seven Deadly Sins, and A.D.A.M. must purge it of the
mechanical scourge hosted inside.

New screenshots for the upcoming PSP title, Rengoku 2: The Stairway to H.E.A.V.E.N. have been released. The game is being developed by Hudson and will be out in stores on April 27th. The game is a mysterious, sci-fi-themed action-RPG with a robot battling to reach the top level of the Tower of Purgatory, the only exit to the said place. Hopefully it'll be a better game than it's predecessor.

The original Rengoku fired up a lot of hopes when it was first unveiled for the PSP a year ago, hopes that were quickly dashed by game's drab, dull graphics, lifeless story, ho-hum gameplay, shoddy controls... sigh, just read the review. Many hoped some big changes would be made for the game's sequel, titled Rengoku II: The Stairway to H.E.A.V.E.N. Hudson seems to have listened, for one they're adding actual analogue support this time out, as well as larger, more open and more organic playing spaces and souped up graphics. Here's a taste:
