Riviera: The Promised Land has come a long way from WonderSwan Color, to the Game Boy Advance, and now to the PlayStation Portable. The newest port boasts of new CG sequences, audio, and more. Today we've got some eye candy for the RPG lovers who've been waiting for the popular title. For those who aren't familiar with the title, Atlus' Riviera: The Promised Land's story centers around five main characters: Ein, Fia, Lina, Serene, and Sierra. They are tasked to stop the demons from overrunning their world once again. The role-playing aspect of the game has a unique twist that makes it all the more fun: players can choose different actions or replies. In the screenshots, we see some of the interaction and then some. Riviera: The Promised Land is set for a North American release on July, so here's to hoping the screenshots can tide you over until then. Enjoy!

Atlus Assistant Manager of Sales and Marketing Aram Jabbari sent us an email to say that the official U.S. website for upcoming video game Riviera: The Promised Land has now gone live. The title was first released in Japan back in November 2006 and was warmly received by fans. The English website for Riviera: The Promised Land, much like its Japanese counterpart, has different sections for basic information about the title, its characters, and the story background. Speaking of which, Riviera takes place around a thousand years after Ragnarok, the time when the gods have already deserted the land and demons' are threatening to come back. Anyway, the website also has a download section where fans can get a handful of wallpapers. If you want to know more, our Read link below will take you to The Promised Land (pun intended). Riviera: The Promised Land will be available across North America on July 10. |

Turns out, EB Games was both right and wrong about role-playing game Riviera: The Promised Land. The retail store was correct that the game will be introduced to the North American market after its much unprecedented success in Japan. But the game will be arriving later than expected. Atlus finally released a statement on the leak by EB Games and confirmed that it will indeed publish Riviera for North America. However, the company clarified that the game will be available a little later, June 2007 to be exact. We've waited for this game for so long and we guess a couple more months won't hurt. To those of you who are not familiar yet with Riviera: The Promised Land, the game is set 1,000 years after Ragnarok. The gods are no longer present and signs of the demons' return on the floating island of Riviera is very imminent. Grim Angels Ein and Ledah were appointed to evoke Retribution and destroy the promised land. |

Here's something to spice up your day. We don't know if it's a boo-boo or a premature announcement, but retail store EB Games seems to have listed Riviera: The Promised Land for release here in North America courtesy of Atlus USA. Of course we don't have to remind you how great Riviera was and how the game always never finds its way here.
Remember, this is just from EB Games. We heard that GameStop also had the game up listed, but unfortunately, we can't find the link (did they remove it or something?). Anyway, we will update you as more concrete details about this surface. Riviera: The Promised Land is a role playing game originally designed by Sting Entertainment for the WonderSwan. |

Originally a Sting Entertainment game for the WonderSwan, then ported (by Atlus) to the Gameboy Advance, Riviera: The Promised Land is heading its smashing point-and-click adventure over to the PSP. It's coming so soon, in fact, that it will already be released in Japan by November 22. As for a US release, no word yet. But! We got more info for you guys... While ports have a trend of "staying the same + extras," this game actually has a lot to boast about on the PSP. Riviera: The Promised Land will include 50 new CG sequences, better graphics, and a full cast for the voices. It's going to be a treat for both old and new fans of the game. For those not familiar with the game, some story elements are similar to that of Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth - which also happens to be a port. The plot takes its roots on the Norse and Greek mythos, and twists it into a very unique RPG experience. It is this twist which pegged it high up the ladder of the GBA charts during the summer of 2005. Now let's all just hope that the game doesn't just get ported to the PSP, but to the Western shores as well. |

Heads up! The official site for Riviera: the Promised Land is now up and running! Get the lowdown on the characters Ecthel, Ledah, Rothe, Lyuri, Fiaa, Serene and Cierra, immerse yourself in the game's story, and get your hands on other game info and downloads. Riviera is originally a GBA game done by Sting, and is now being developed for the PSP. This RPG looks quite promising (check out the graphics), and we're positive that it will cater both to Riviera fans and curious PSP users alike. It's supposed to be out this year, but as of now, a specific date hasn't been released yet. For more updates, just stay tuned here at QJ. Meanwhile, check out their home page for a heavy dose of Riviera eye-candy. Update: Our readers mentioned that Riviera is orginally a WonderSwan Color-game, which was ported to the GBA in 2005. Thanks a lot sushi and Niels for mentioning that. |
