High Impact Games was recently interviewed regarding their studio's upcoming PlayStation Portable title Secret Agent Clank. Aside from spilling out a lot of details, the development studio confirmed our report yesterday that their game will be able to connect to other Ratchet video games.First and foremost, Lead Designer David Goodrich said that they utilized Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters' game engine for Secret Agent Clank. Despite that, the two games are different from each other in the sense that the new one has expanded into new game types such as timing and stealth. While new game modes will also be introduced, Secret Agent Clank will have no multiplayer component: Secret Agent Clank is a very story intensive game with lots of unique gameplay elements. We have decided to focus our efforts on the single player game to make a really engrossing experience for the player. There is no multiplayer planned for this installment of the game. Speaking of storyline, the new title revolves around the gallant efforts of Clank to rescue Ratchet who has been charged with a crime he didn't commit. Ratchet was thrown into prison where his former adversaries are plotting a way to get back at him. Ratchet has to make sure there's someone left alive to rescue when Clank returns with the proper evidence. Aside from the already confirmed connection with PlayStation 3 title Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, David Goodrich also mentioned that those who've played Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters will also benefit from this game. Fellow designer Ken Strickland reminded: We want to reward those happy souls that have already made the leap to the Ratchet & Clank experience on the PSP, and this seemed like a fine way to do it. We're not ready to reveal the exact nature of the bonus, but this is a good time and place to remind folks not to free up that block of memory just yet. High Impact Games Assistant Project Manager Leviticus Davis, furthermore, revealed that a demo for Secret Agent Clank will be released in the future. "The demo will include two, maybe three, exciting segments that will give everyone a sneak peek at what happens when Clank finally gets the chance to shine as the lead character," said Davis. Finally, regarding their working relationship with Sony, the studio's design director Lesley Mathieson commented, "Sony's dedication to quality has given us the time and flexibility we need to turn out fun, creative products. They have been wonderful people to interact with on all stages of the games." |

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) Senior Producer Frank Simon recently posted an article and a couple of screenshots regarding the newly confirmed PSP title Secret Agent Clank over at the official PlayStation Blog. The game is being developed by High Impact Games and is scheduled for a 2008 release date. Simon reminded everyone that Secret Agent Clank will focus mainly on the sidekick little robot Clank and its attempts to free Ratchet who is being accused of crimes he didn't commit. Aside from its moves that can only be referred to as "Clank-fu", Frank Simon mentioned the following features: We also showed a new line of gadgets and devices and rhythm gameplay where Clank dodges and weaves through a laser field. One of my favorite sections so far is the boss fight with Jack where the player gets to play as Qwark. It's about time that the big guy put his money where his mouth is. The senior producer ended the post by saying that SCEA is very happy with the work of High Impact Games and its dedication to listen to the Ratchet & Clank fan base. |

The rumors have proven true about the development of Secret Agent Clank for the PSP and here are more details on the game. Clank's coming in with a James Bond flair as he goes solo: the little robot gets off Ratchet's back (literally) and sports a debonair tuxedo, on a mission to help Ratchet who is currently imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit. It's now up to Clank to clear his name.Captain Qwark will be a playable character in Secret Agent Clank, and Ratchet himself will be playable in some levels. Mostly though you'll be playing as the little robot and will be making use of his deadly um... pincers to do some martial arts ass whoopin'. Some parts of the game will be needing stealth to progress though. Of course the game will still be sporting a heavy load of gadgetry, including cuff link bombs and other cool spy gear. High Impact Games' Secret Agent Clank won't be released until 2008, but if you can't wait till then you can always watch the trailer over and over. Check back here for more updates.i |
