Here are two new videos for the reborn classic Sega Genesis Collection. The first one is for Golden Axe II. Now, for those of you young enough not to be able to remember anything about this game, GAII is actually a side-scrollin' beat'em up title that was released exclusively on the Mega Drive.
What? You weren't born yet when Mega Drive was still around? Blimey. Never mind. What's important is that you now have the chance to get acquainted with what the once-young-but-still-young-at-heart gamers were all going agog for that time (not too long ago, really). The other vid is for the more familiar blue-blurred Sonic the Hedgehog. You have got to be kidding if you say you don't know who or what he is. But if that's the case, again, our remedy for that is for you to check the Collection out. But really, if you wanna call yourself a serious gamer, you better brush up on your history. Golden Axe II The Sega">Sonic the Hedgehog vid, after the jump! |

The future is here! Oh, snaps. Let us rephrase: The PAST is here! Truthfully, a lot of the gamers (despite the push for better graphics, better sounds, and better everything) still have a special place in their hearts for 16-bit retro games from their childhood. Sega's just announced that their Sega Genesis Collection has now been shipped to retailers across North America. US$ 29.95 will get you more than 30 games in this blast-from-the-past compilation. Just some of the titles include classics like Sonic the Hedgehog, Shinobi III, Phantasy Star, and Golden Axe. The collection will also feature unlockable items like interviews with the developers of the original games, as well as a museum area with interesting factoids about your favorite Sega Genesis games, even arcade titles from the Genesis era that you can access! Don't you see images from your childhood flash before you? Whether you still got your friends from a decade ago or if you've got new friends now, you guys can share your 16-bit memories via Ad Hoc mode and relive the past with your handheld! Who said you should forget about your past? This time around, it's inescapable! |

Want to know some more of the games in the Sega Genesis Collection? Then you came to the right place. Now showing is the game's 16th official movie, and featured this time is the game Flicky.A little background about the game. It was first released back in 1984 (so that would make the game as old as me), and has appeared on the SG-100, the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, as well as mobile phones. What is Flicky? Flicky is actually a bird out to save her children, the Chirps, from housecats. In the game, what the player has to do is to collect all of them Chirps and guide them through the exit. Obviously, as the objective of the game is to get them out alive, the player has to avoid Tiger the cat (okay, that's confusing) and Iggy the Iguana (and that's obvious). If stealth mode can't be sufficient to avoid them, then just resort to throwing items at them to kill 'em. Anyhow, enjoy the vid! Download: [Sega Genesis Collection - Flicky Movie] |

We've been giving pretty steady coverage of the Sega Genesis Collection, and while we're still waiting for its release reminiscing the happy days of Sonic, Ecco and Shinobi, we'll take a short trip down memory lane and look at another cultural icon we had back during the hay-day of some of these games: comic books.
Ever remember reading your first comic book and - as the cliche goes - wishing you were in there, being the hero who beats the villain ( Or for the sicker dudes out there, being the villain who nukes the hero)? Comix Zone just had that in mind, and while the idea of a comic artists THAT buffed up does sound a bit whacked these days, you gotta love the way the whole game felt like a cross between a comic book - complete with Adam West-esque "BAM! and BOOM!" sound effects - and Streets of Rage. Sure, games like Vectorman had gameplay going for it, but Comix Zone wasn't just about the play. It's like Viewtiful Joe: It's a homage to other cultural icons that you just gotta love as much as the game itself. And to help rekindle the nostalgia, we've enclosed this post with a game trailer to help you guys remember this panel-scrolling classic. Enjoy. Download: [Comix Zone trailer] |

Classic games are indeed making a huge comeback, not only in the current-gen gaming world, but also in the next-gen realm. And as we've been mentioning in our previous articles, the proof of this is the emergence of compilations of classic games -- one of which is Sega Genesis Collection. Featuring 28 classic games to time-warp you back to the 80's and early 90's, this title includes games that will definitely make you recall the times when bosses looked funnily uncanny; some looking like floating Blu-ray discs while some pulsed and throbbed as pink vein-y blobs. And since we're on the topic of bosses (lame segue, we know), the two videos we have for you from Altered Beast and Vectorman 2 show us some of the bosses we'll be facing in the said games. If you've been keeping yourself updated on our Sega Genesis Collection coverage, you'll find we've already given you tons of vids already; there's Sonic the Hedgehog, Shinobi III, and tons more. Now, here are two more to add to your nostalgic trip down the cult classic gaming road, and rest assured that before the collection comes out on November 7th, we'll be giving you tons more to ease the pain of waiting. So if you wanna watch the vids, y'all know what to do, just click on the download links below and you're good to go. Enjoy! The PSP's Sega Genesis Collection's coming out this November 7, while we retro-gamers wait for titles like Ecco the Dolphin or Sonic the Hedgehog, we'll remember the good 'ol days of 16-bit gaming - games that didn't take more than a few hours to finish, and still left you with the warm and fuzzy satisfaction of kicking Dr. Ro-butt-nik's over-sized posterior. Then we see the trailers, and get even more nostalgic, even misty-eyed as we remember the said butt-kicking. Ahh, simple joy. We figured that's the idea behind the release of this latest vid from playstation.com, thus keeping this said fuzzy feeling alive until release day. For those of you old enough to remember, Gain Ground is an arcade action game created introduced way back in 1988. The game's a simple "get to the other end of the map alive" setup. It has 20 characters to choose from, each having their own weapon sets and attributes, with the player allowed to pick three from this roster for the whole game. See more in the read link for the trailer video for another game to expect in the Sega Genesis Collection. |

We all just luuurve retro games, don't we? And Sega seems to know this pretty well. They're giving us the Sega Genesis Collection that will include 28 games. Throughout our coverage for this blast-from-the-past game, we've given you so many trailers already, including those of Sonic the Hedgehog, Kid Chameleon, and Ecco the Dolphin. While those got us all slightly teary-eyed and quite sentimental, we're upping the ante with two more videos: Shinobi III and Phantasy Star IV. First, you've got a hack-and-slash ninja-assassin game that puts the entire Ninja Turtle squad to shame. And then there's an RPG that stars an unlikely hero in the form of a bounty hunter in an interplanetary quest. With these two games combined, surely that's enough for you to get the collection, right? If not, download the videos below and reconsider. In the age of the upcoming next-gen consoles, 16-bit games are still a sight for sore eyes. Download: [Shinobi III trailer] Download: [Phantasy Star IV trailer] Pre-Order: [Sega Genesis Collection] |

Our last update on SEGA Genesis Collection discussed similarities among the numerous games included in this collection; however, this post won't be talking about the same thing. We're actually going to highlight and take pride in the fact that these two games we're featuring now have nothing in common - well, maybe except for being real classics and for being cool and fun games.
Virtua Fighter 2 or VF2 is a versus fighting arcade game that had been released back in 1994. At that time, the game was considered groundbreaking as it runs at 60 frames per second. In this version, there will be other exciting features added including adjustments of the size of the arena and adjustments made to the physical energy meter. So if you're a fan of either versus and platform games and love classics, these titles should satisfy your craving. By the way, we also attached some of the games' trailers for you to reminisce and enjoy the good old days of playing these games. SEGA Genesis Collection is a compilation of 22 games which will be released this fall. Download: [Virtua Fighter 2] Download: [Bonanza Brothers] |
