Konami's resident musician and video game composer Akira Yamaoka recently talked about PlayStation Portable title Silent Hill: Origins. Aside from composing 15 songs for the official game soundtrack, Yamaoka is also responsible for overseeing all parts of the Silent Hill franchise.
Anyway, Yamaoka shared that he wanted to do the music of Origins since day one because the story in this particular title will catapult the events of the other four games in the series. The musician said that he wanted to be sure that it will have the same feel as the first Silent Hill game. Akira Yamaoka then revealed that Silent Hill: Origins has been a great challenge to them because its quite hard to terrify people using a small screen. He discussed: The main challenge was to keep terrifying players on the handheld. It's much easier to do that on the console. We adjusted the combat system so that all players can feel the horror. On a small screen, it's a bit harder to keep everyone focused on the world of Silent Hill. That was the biggest challenge. The musician then said that he feels like they succeeded in hurdling that challenge. "I'm very confident that we've done a good job and that players will be scared by this title. Silent Hill: Origins has some keys to understand the entire world of Silent Hill and the other games. Playing this game will help people better understand those mysteries", he concluded. Silent Hill: Origins is expected to be released on November 6 in North America, November 15 in the whole of Europe, and December 6 for Japan. |

It looks like Konami's giving Japanese gamers a bloody good reason to start reserving copies of Silent Hill Zero (aka Silent Hill Origins) for the Sony PlayStation Portable. The company is advertising via their KonamiStyle online store that those who pre-order the game will also receive a crystal figurine of one of Origins' residents - the Butcher. The figurine will be included with the game copy come shipping day at no extra charge. Silent Hill Zero for the PSP will arrive in Japan on December 12 at an expected retail price of ¥ 4,480 (US$ 44). Let's just hope that the game's U.S. release treats us to some similar pre-order goodies. A crying shame it's not gonna make it to this Halloween, though. |

Despite having been confirmed in Konami's lineup for the TGS (they even had a pre-TGS trailer released), Silent Hill Origins seems to be absent on the TGS showfloor. It's neither found in the Sony PSP station, and neither is it found in the Konami booth too.The no-show was confirmed to IGN by a Konami representative, and unfortunately, no reason was given as to why the title wasn't able to make it. There have been talks about issues with development, but most remain hopeful that this no-show doesn't automatically equate to a delay in the game's release. The demo leaked from the Leipzig Games Convention may have been a factor in Origins' not being in TGS, but this is mere speculation. Just in case the fog clears up though, we're sure to give you guys updates on Konami's latest thriller. |

Silent Hill franchise fans with Sony PSPs better brace themselves because we've got a big one incoming! Konami Digital has fielded in the Tokyo Game Show 2007 trailer of Silent Hill Origins and it looks very, very good. As you can see, the trailer starts off with some of the best-looking pre-rendered sequences we've seen for the PSP in quite a while. Silent Hill Origins protagonist Travis Grady is seen here driving his truck through the infamous town. He sees an apparition of what seems to be Alessa and hits the brakes. Other previews are then depicted using a PSP-view scheme. The dark, gritty background song helps establish the mood that this iteration of the famed survival horror series aims to project. It won't take long before Silent Hill Origins locks its chilly grip on PSP owners everywhere. Early November marks the launch date of this anticipated title, making for a nice, extended Halloween for those who dare play it. |

Silent Hill Origins, set to launch in North America in the last quarter of 2007, is a prequel to the first installment of the popular survival horror series by Konami Digital. Climax Studios is doing the handiwork for this chapter and it's looking as disturbing as ever. The events in Silent Hill Origins show that even before Harry arrived with his daughter in the haunted town, spooky things have been running wild. This game stars troubled man Travis O'Grady, a truck driver who passes through Silent Hill and encounters an apparition of Alessa. He then investigates the scene and gets caught in a very sticky situation. Appearances by characters from the original Silent Hill have been confirmed. Yes, that means we'll be seeing the very memorable Dr. Kaufman again. It'll be a while before this bone-chiller hits, but while you wait, you might as well enjoy the screenshots we have below. More Silent Hill Origins screens after the jump! Buy: [Silent Hill Origins] |

Silent Hill can be a very lonely place. Whether you've accidentally stumbled upon this creepy town of fog, rust and beef jerky, or simply sought it out yourself in your search for a loved one - the chances of finding companionship, that warm human touch, can be pretty slim.
But if you're lucky - or unlucky enough - Silent Hill's resident beauties, the Bubble Head nurses, may just find you and give you that warm, gooey feeling of being in the center of attention, even if that attention is geared towards cutting you into pieces with unsanitary scalpels. This is what we see in this screenshot update of the latest Silent Hill title this generation, namely Silent Hill Origins for the PlayStation Portable. In these three tastefully-captured images, we see Travis getting some well-deserved attention from the nurses of Silent Hill. Not to be outdone - and showing just how much of an awesome guy he is - ol' Travis cowboys up and takes on three of the beauties at once. Now that's style. Commentary aside, things are looking very good for Silent Hill Origins. Not only is it bringing back the dynamic camera angles of the first game, it's probably the best-looking Silent Hill title to date - that is, until Silent Hill V comes along. Still, with this game not only sporting first-class production values but also the ability to be played on the go, Konami may just have a classic on their hands. Enjoy the screenshots! |

Climax Studios CEO Karl Jeffery has something to say about the leaked demo of Silent Hill Origins that has been made playable on homebrew-capable PlayStation Portables. The game demo, initial reports mentioned, was smuggled during the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany. Jeffery told online site Games Industry that the stolen demo didn't come from their studio because what was shown at the event belongs to Konami. The CEO explained, "All I can say is that code did not leak from Climax - 100 per cent guaranteed. The code that is out there is fingerprinted and was supplied solely to Konami for marketing purposes". Karl Jeffery mentioned that the leak first appeared on torrent sites last August 19 and was literally devoured by PSP users. One unnamed site, according to reports, enjoyed more than 1,200 downloads during the outbreak. Why did this happen? Climax Studios doesn't know for sure but the CEO said that this has never happened to them before. "At Climax we have strong and proven security procedures that protect all of our code, assets, and builds. We have developed over 100 titles in 20 years in business and have never had a leak or theft from inside the company", said Jeffery. Silent Hill Origins is expected to officially hit retail stores later this year. |
