With Sonic Rivals 2's release nearing, Sega released another official gameplay video for the Sonic fan in you. Rings Battle and Capture the Chao aside, Sonic Rivals 2 will offer four other multiplayer battle modes for Sony PlayStation Portable gamers. That's six bragging rights altogether, if you stomp the competition like Robotnik's lackeys.
Though the short flashes the official release date yet again, there hasn't been an announcement as to when exactly in November Sonic Rivals 2 sees the light of day. As stated before however, PSP owners in the UK will get to pommel King of the Hill wannabes once the game officially hits their shores in December. Sonic Rivals 2 is under the development wings of Backbone Entertainment, to be published by Sega. |

Sega's Sonic Rivals 2 for the Sony PlayStation Portable not only lets you blast through the scenery in a blisteringly-fast race for the finish, it also lets you pummel and beat down on your rivals - while blasting through the scenery in a blisteringly-fast race for the finish. And we see two new game modes that put this pugilistic pandemonium to the forefront, namely King of the Hill Mode and Tag Mode.
So what are these two modes all about? King of the Hill is simple - remain the dominant player in a point of the map for as long as possible. Punch, kick and spin-dash your way into terrain supremacy, all the while keeping in mind that your opponent can and will use everything to take it away from you. If in the off-chance you find King of the Hill a bit too defensive in style, then Tag Mode should fit you like a glove. No defensive gameplay here - with the clock ticking on that time bomb hovering above your head, you'll have to think fast and act fast to make sure the bomb stays off you and on someone else. How do you transfer it to somebody else, you ask? Just run or hit your opponent - and from there on, it's all about running fast enough and jumping crazily enough for him or her not to be able to keep up. Definitely some fast and frenetic gameplay from Sonic Rivals 2. Enjoy the video! |

Looking for more ways to beat the opposition in Backbone Entertainment's Sonic Rivals 2 for the PSP? If giving your enemy an good-'ol-fashioned thrashing via knockout mode isn't your thing, we'll be introducing two more battle modes requiring a wee bit more finesse: the Rings Battle mode, and Capture the Chao mode.
Ring Battle mode will have you competing against your other rivals in a match of resources - collect as many rings as you can to win. It's battle, of course, which means you can still op to attack your opponent, and steal his rings. The other mode we'll be introducing here is Capture the Chao. Put simply, it's a high-speed take on Capture the Flag, where your goal is to snatch the Chao your opponent's carrying - that'd be the Dewy lookalike floating above the character's head. |

Sega's bringing back Sonic and friends to the Sony PlayStation Portable in Sonic Rivals 2, the follow-up to last year's Sonic Rivals. This title is a high-speed action platformer developed once again by Backbone Entertainment. It packs quite a few features, including single-disc game sharing and six different Battle modes.
The video features a look at Knockout, one of the six different ways to beat the snot out of your opponent in Battle Mode. There's some pretty fast gameplay footage in this one, so check it out below. Sonic Rivals 2 is currently scheduled for a November release in the U.S. Europe will get this title in December. |

Knuckles the Echidna have always been a favorite of mine - it's just a pity that we never see him use his fists much. Now, in this screenshot update of Sega's Sonic Rivals 2 for the PSP, we see him and the other members of the Sonic the Hedgehog cast duking it out one-on-one, fisticuffs style. One-two punch! The graphics are looking quite sharp in this eye candy update, and the vibrant colors are very much welcome - as characters from the franchise have always been identified with a single color. The environments are quite detailed, and the attacks look awesome in such that they not only look painful, but take into account the character's main abilities (like Knuckles' own rendition of the Shoryuken). The pick of the litter? Shadow giving Silver the boot in the waterfall stage. Unintentionally funny, and yours truly laughed. Sonic Rivals 2 is definitely looking great - not only as a throwback to the original games' sensation of unbridled speed, but also gives players the neat ability to dish out some pain as well. Enjoy! The other screenshots after the jump! |

The world's most famous hedgehog is back for more high-speed platform racing as Sega showed off Sonic Rivals 2 for the Sony PSP in Germany's GC 2007. The sequel looks to deliver more of what the first game gave us. Take a look:
Sega describes the gameplay style of the Sonic Rivals series as "classic 2D" taking place in 3D environments. Sonic and his friends from the franchise speed off in familiar locales to see who's got the fastest wheels around, eluding traps and using power-ups all the time to gain an edge. The Sonic franchise has taken its lickings after its 16-bit heyday, but young fans continue to support releases because of the light and casual appeal seasoned with addictive elements. Will Sonic Rivals 2 contribute to a new golden age for Sonic? We'll see when we get our hands on it. |
