Chart Track's top 10 - Image 1

And the lean All-Platforms List from pop culture trackers Chart Track begins with your friendly neighborhood Spidey, who according to the gamers at the UK, is sitting neatly on top of the list for the third week in a row. Multiplatform Spider-Man 3 actually owes it all to the PlayStation 3 and PS2 fans, especially to the recent release of the Collector's Edition.

It appears that the charts has been dominated by games available for the Nintendo Wii, however, with around five games from multiplatform releases and two as first-party titles. Electronic Arts' Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 takes its hat off to the gamers of the new-gen console, being noted as the biggest jumper in the list for this week - a clear leap from the 10th spot to number 6.

Microsoft and Sony bring around four games a piece, although the Xbox 360 keeps a single exclusive title with Realtime World's Crackdown. Crackdown is also this week's new entrant to the list, leaping in to the 8th spot from the 19th. Sony on the other hand has a collection of titles for the PS2, PlayStation 3, and the PSP on the list.

Sitting comfortably in number two for three weeks is Electronic Arts' Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, raking in the advantages of topping both the PC and Xbox 360 charts in the region. Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 6 enters the top three from the 4th spot. Office Create's Cooking Mama steps up from the 6th to enter the top five. Here's a rundown:
  1. Spider-Man 3 (Activision)
  2. Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars (Electronic Arts)
  3. Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (Konami)
  4. Wii Play (Nintendo)
  5. Cooking Mama (Nintendo)
  6. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 (Electronics Arts)
  7. FIFA 07 (Electronic Arts)
  8. Crackdown (Microsoft)
  9. Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training (Ubisoft)

Spider-Man 3 - Image 1Despite of the complaints regarding Spider-Man 3's graphics on the Wii, the multiplatform-swinging video game from Activision still proved to be the most wanted game at Gottaplay Interactive's Game Rental Charts.

Apparently, Peter Parker's charms have yet to fail him, and his bad boy alter-ego only seems to up his appeal even more. The "Spider-Man 3" movie spun its webs on U.S. charts last weekend, making history as it tops box-office records of its two previous movies. Said Gottaplay CEO John Gorst, "Our members have been waiting for months for this game. The activity we've seen during the past few days shows that fans are looking to immediately extend their movie experience on their consoles at home."

Spider-Man 3 is now out for the Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PS2, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, and Game Boy Advance.

GAME Stores prepping for Spider-Man 3 buyout - Image 1Video game retail outlet GAME seems to be gearing up for a big buyout of Activision's game adaptation of the "Spiderman 3" movie as their recent press release confirms that they're "expecting a huge demand for [the] game" and will be providing copies for all of their 400+ stores region-wide.

They will also be making limited stock of the Spider-Man 3: Collector's Edition for the PlayStation 3 available to interested gamers who want to also play as the New Goblin.

The special edition has been announced to be only exclusively available at GAME for Europe, but there is no official word to confirm it as yet.

The first and second game adaptations of Spider-Man have jointly sold an excess of 1.6 million and some analysts believe that Spider-Man 3 (for the PC, Xbox 360, DS, GameCube, PS2, PSP and Wii) will probably do just as well as both games did, if not better.

GAME pre-release data has revealed that 74% of the pre-orders for the game have been made through their GAME Reward Card, and that the pre-orders came from males aged 20-24 years old. The game is slated for a worldwide release on Friday, May 4, 2007, coinciding with the world premiere of the highly-anticipated movie itself. No word on the PSP version's release date yet.

Here comes the Spider-Man 3 launch trailer video. What more can we say? Honestly, there's nothing more. Everybody who has a console (PS3, 360, PC, Wii, PSP, PS2, DS, GC) has been waiting for this video game to arrive. While it has been topping most requested titles lists already, it is without a doubt that Spider-Man 3 will be bigger when the movie finally takes off.

In this launch trailer video, we see the words "Unleash the power of the black suit" and we can't help but agree. And don't get the impression that this is just one of your usual, needs-to-be-done movie-video game tie in. Both Activision and Treyarch have been talking about the title's gameplay, features and how far this franchise has reached in terms of development.

There. We guess, after all, we did say something more. Meanwhile, enough with the talking, and enjoy the trailer video.

Spider-Man 3 for the PSP - Image 1

For those of you eager to play Spider-Man 3 on your PSP after watching the movie, sorry, you'll have to wait. The GameStop listing for the game currently indicates that the game is set for release on the first of November.

This of course, baffles most folks, notably, some folks in the GameSpot forums, and especially PSP Fanboy as it is customary to expect movie based video games to be released simultaneously with the movie, and to be produced for every platform possible.

The frustration here comes from the nagging question "Why was the PSP left out?" The alleged November release of Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray (highfidigest.com reports spotting a November 2 release date) is perhaps the reason for the delay. A Blu-ray/PSP marketing tie-in planned for November? So far, it sounds likely.

Spidey - Image 1Spider-Man 3 for the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 have been given a lot of publicity lately, but what about the Wii and PSP versions of the game? IGN caught up with Vicarious Visions' CEO Karthik Bala and controls designer Jonathan Mintz to ask them what web-slinging would be like with the Nunchuk and the Wiimote.

Because of the limitations of hardware, the two claim that Spider-Man 3 for the PSP and the Wii will be different. The PSP version will offer a free roaming city gameplay on a handheld while with the Wii, the Wiimote and the Nunchuk become the players' webslingers.

The PSP and PS2 versions also have some storylines that don't appear on the PS3/X360 versions, because the makers didn't want the versions to be exactly the same.

The Spider-Man 3 team originally toyed with the idea of making a first-person shooter of the game, but didn't pursue it because the web-slinging hero moves too quickly and fluidly. But they did make camera control interesting in the Wii game. To look around freely, players can hold the C button and tilt the nunchuk horizontally or vertically.

Mintz says that the Nunchuk and Wiimote become Spidey's left and right hands in the game. Web lines are cast out by holding the B button and flicking the controllers. Swinging the Wiimote left or right does melee attacks, holding down the B button fires web splats, and moving the Wiimote in a circle does a classic web rodeo.

The developers say that because of the closer interaction in the Wii game, playing as Spider-Man will make gamers feel more powerful, and vicious, especially when playing in the Black Suit. There are also unlockables on the Wii version that won't be obtained on the PS3/X360 versions so fans, watch out. Spider-Man 3 for the Wii comes out early in May.

Spider-Man 3 - Image 1Activision has just released the official fact sheet for their line of Spider-Man 3 games. Based on Columbia Pictures' upcoming Spider-Man 3 movie, the games promise to give players a chance to experience both movie-based as well as original 3.

Among the features that they have cited in their fact sheet, Activision mentions that players will be able to not just take on the adventures of our favorite webslinger, but those of his evil alter-ego symbiote costume as well. By playing as Venom, our hero's strength increases dramatically. However, the catch is that the longer that you take on this dark persona, the harder it is to control its will, and there is a chance that it might even take over you completely.

Besides having Venom as an alternate persona, players will also be able to freely roam New York City and take on missions as they please. However, just remember that in such a vast city, villains are bound to be scattered all around, and you will have to choose which bombing, hostage crisis, robbery, or other incident you will attend to first if you want to be able to rescue all those who need rescuing.

Besides your familiar roster of supervillains, there are three city gangs and their followers which you will have to deal with. Considering that the new AI has been amped up, and a new combat system has been implemented, it can be assumed that controlling these hooligans won't be a cakewalk.

Bound for release this May, Spider-Man 3 will be making appearances on the Xbox 360, the PS3, the Wii, PSP, NDS, PS2, GBA, and the PC.

Doing what spiders are supposed to do. - Image 1Bargain hunters may very well have a field day with this new offer from EB Games, though we're not sure what to make of it. It seems that EB Games has access to some special freebies which you can only get by buying Spider-Man 3 from them.

According to their site, the freebies include a movie poster and exclusive access to the special portions of the game's site. There's the typo in their advert which makes it seem like a rush job, but it seems like quite a minor thing compared to the possible payoff of free swag and a cool game:

Purchase Spider-Man 3 and receive a Spider-Man 3 Movie Poster plus get exclusive access to www.SM3THEGAME.COM, including first look access to behind the scenes videos, bonus developer blogs and more! Supplies are limited. Offer also good in stores. Poster and access code to website will be sent with game.

Sure, it's a small thing, but spiders are small too. In the meantime, here are some little tweaks across the board for the PSP, DS, and Wii versions of the game. Enjoy!
  • PSP: The PSP system game is a fully streaming, complete conversion of the PlayStation 2 system game, not a port.
  • Wii: The Wii version delivers the sensation of swinging through the city via the Wii Remote and Wii Nunchuk. Its like nothing you've ever experienced before on the Wii. Two bonus Marvel villains: Morbius and Shriek
  • DS: Has a revolutionary battle system featuring full NDS Touch Screen combat. Huge, never-before-seen 3D world and large revolving storyline on the NDS platform.
