A new version of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System emulator for the PSP based on Snes9x is now available for download. The latest s9xTYLmecm update includes some more performance improvements and other bug fixes.

Homebrew coder Zack has dropped by our forums to release a new update for Snes9X Euphoria, a Super Nintendo Entertainment System emulators for the PSP based on Ruka's Snes9xTyl. The latest update is mostly a bug fix release.

Homebrew developer Zack has released Snes9X Euphoria R1, an SNES emulator for the PSP based on Ruka's Snes9xTyl. This release deals mainly with speed, so if you're running into framerate problems on your old SNES emulators you might want to give this a try.

The anonymous team of Japanese developers have now released their fourth build of Snes9xTYL, Snes9xTYLsmcm 23/05/08 Release. So far, reports of satisfaction have been pouring in, thanks to the noted increase in speed. Find out more after the jump.

Those of you looking for a decent SNES emulator for the PlayStation Portable won't run out of options anytime soon, considering the numerous releases of similar applications out right now in the homebrew community. Case in point, the highly popular Snes9xTYL homebrew emulator was recently picked up by some new developers and has gone through several new improvements. PSP-compatible Super Nintendo Entertainment System emulators are hard to come by, usually taking several months in between releases. It's good to know that homebrew coder knuckles84 recently picked up the project and rolled out a new version.

Dubbed as uo_snes9x test 0, this particular homebrew is somewhat a combination of Ruka's and Chilly Willy's take on the project. Read more after the jump!

QJ.NET reader CJ has pointed us towards a new homebrew release from Chilly Willy and CaptShoe. The collaboration between ChillyWilly and CaptShoe has resulted in Snes9xTYL 0.4.2 ME for the PSP Slim, an update of the non-ME PSP Slim version AhMan released a while back. Here's the changelog:

• Ported to use 3.xx compatible MediaEngine library.
• Fixed button detection in key redefine screen when map analog to pad is enabled.
• Sound issues reduced, but not entirely. This would require more time.
• L+R functionality replaced by Home button. To quit, tap Home twice.
• The time to get back to the XMB should now be decreased. Homehook.prx courtesy of NJ.
• Simplified welcome message with the ability to disable completely.
• Option to turn off intro animation.
• New snesadvance.dat (speedhacks) by Illegal Machine and Warkobo. Thanks!
• New XMB graphics.

Aside from bringing SNES emulation goodness to the PSP Slim, this SNES emulator also works fine on old PlayStation Portables. According to Chilly Willy, this version is hardcoded to run at 333 MHz since the PSP Slim hangs when you change the CPU speed while MediaEngine is running.

This version of Snes9xTYL also burns up a lot of juice. Chilly Willy says that "sleep mode has been disabled since sleep would have done nothing at all". Both the CPU speed change and the battery drain issues are being worked on and should be fixed in a later release.

QJ.NET reader StoneCut dropped by our PSP Development Forum and informed us that iR Shell-owner AhMan has ported Snes9xTYL to PlayStation Portable FW 3.xx. That means that, in case you didn't catch that well, it is now possible to enjoy SNES video games on your PSP Slim and Lite. AhMan's exact words regarding this release:

Another emulator ported to firmware 3.x, aka for PSP Slim. The USB mass storage has been removed and no longer available due to the emu is now running completely under user mode. This will probably be the last emu I've interest to port. Have fun!

It was also mentioned by Stonecut that this particular version of Snes9xTY is also compatible with old PSPs. All you have to do is put the emulator inside the GAME352 folder. Aside from the emulator itself, AhMan also released the source code of the program.
