Tomb Raider for $19.99!

The much-awaited release of Tomb Raider:Legend commences today, and fans of the series are probably already on their way to get it. If you are, hold on a second. Fry's Electronics are running a promotion as of 4pm today where you can buy Tomb Raider:Legend for the very low price of $19.99! This is the lowest price I have seen for such a large PSP title however it is not known how long the promotion over at Fry's will last for.

In comparison, the same game on Fry's electronics' Outpost website is up for $39.99 plus shipping. This is a true bargain and I would advise those that have a Fry's near them to get there dead on 4pm. You may notice that you can also buy NFL Head Coach for the PS2/Xbox for $29.99, although these promotional offers have 1 condition: one per title per customer - so don't be greedy!  This is an excellent offer for a game on it's release date. They only usually offer prices this good on old games.

Tomb Raider

After a successful outing on the Xbox 360 a few months ago, Tomb Raider: Legend is finally getting ready to grace the PSP's sexy screen. Under production at Crystal Dynamics and under the watchful eye of series creator Toby Gard, hopes were high for a smooth transition to Sony's miniature wonder, the first reviews are starting to trickle in, and here's what they're saying:

Pro-G: "I had expected the PSP game to look significantly different to the PlayStation 2 version, but the port has been handled incredibly well. Legend looked great on PlayStation 2, with large environments and a steady frame rate, so it wasn't going to be easy to bring that to the portable without making sacrifices. The biggest difference between the games can be seen in the frame rate. Legend tends to bog down a little on the PSP, which is a shame, as the environments generally look remarkably close to their PlayStation 2 counterparts." -8/10

Eurogamer.net: "The PSP version may not have the zip of the others, and you certainly wouldn't choose it over and above them, but Tomb Raider: Legend is a good game, and if you can put up with the initial awkwardness you'll find it was worth the wait."-7/10

Computer And Videogames:
"While Legend's lack of light certainly doesn't make it unplayable, it does lessen the impact of its good looks somewhat, and more to the point, those of Lara herself. There are numerous sticking points in the game caused by simply not being able to see the way ahead, and unless you've played through the PS2 version you could spend ages scratching about in the gloom for ledges and switches."-7/10

Well there you've got it folks, the general consensus seems to be that it's a pretty good translation of the console experience, all the best parts are kept intact and there is some exclusive content, but a mixture of sometimes iffy controls, dark, murky graphics and a so, so framerate hamper the experience. It's probably worth picking up if you haven't got the console versions, otherwise you might want to skip this 'un.

Lara CroftDubbed as the video vixen's own "Nipplegate" by Xboxic, Tomb Raider: Legend release date (April 11) was reportedly delayed by an offending group of pixels that looked like Lara's nipple. Although the nipple was virtually impossible to see under normal viewing, Xboxic did put up (blew up) the unmistakable proof. Eidos quickly came to her rescue and doused the raging controversy. "No, Tomb Raider is not delayed, That rumor is false. We are shipping on time for all platforms." How do they explain the racy Xboxic's x-rated shot? According to Eidos the European version (already on the market) of the game may show more of Lara's other assets; the stateside version does not. Is that good news or bad news?

IGN have posted a hands-on preview of Tomb Raider Legend for PSP. Tomb Raider Legend just came out in the UK for Xbox, PS2 and Xbox 360 and the US release is due out on the 11th. And those version have been receiving a lot of praise from fans and critics alike. The PSP version is due out later than all other versions, but from this hands on preview it looks like it is shaping up to be every bit as good as it's full size counterpart.

"the PSP version, which we recently played, does offer mini-games and neat additions the others don't. And I have to say, this version of Lara Croft is sexy. For a character that lost her charm long ago, it's nice to see Ms. Croft looking so realistic in design, so carefully crafted, and as a result, so sexy. This is the best looking version of Lara Croft you've ever seen."
