Almost every gamer has played Worms or a spin off of it. Worms has gone from being one of the greatest side-viewing blow-em-ups, Worms: Armageddon, to one of the worst 3D, pain-in-the-ass-camera games, Worms: Mayhem. It's nice to see that the classic Worms game is coming to the handheld consoles, but is it all it should have been?Worthplaying tossed up a review of the latest Worms offering, Worms: Open Warfare. The game offers no storyline, no plot, nothing to get in the way of the reason to play the game, blowing everything up. Unfortunately, the title doesn't offer as much as it should and could have. The weapon choices have been reduced and there is lack of true campaign mode, as to the reasons why it ended up like this, no one knows. The review notes that the game is fun to play with friends, as all Worms incarnations have been, but it all comes up short. The final score was a 6.7. Here's a small preview of the review: The graphics seem far more modern than the gameplay itself does; the Worms all have the cartoon appearance that cel shading provides, mostly because they are in fact cel-shaded. This style works exceptionally well for the Worms series, as it is the epitome of cartoon violence. This styling ensures that the graphics are simplistic all around, focused on stark lines and bright colors. Despite the simple design behind the graphics, it is readily apparent that this is a next-gen portable game. Nothing is pixelated, and it all looks smoothly drawn, as if perhaps a comic artist painted it upon the PSP screen in person. |

trash-talking invertebrates are involved. And now all the 2D, turn-based mayhem is finally available for PSP. The new game looks like an appetizing blend of old and new. In the face of some tweaks, old favorites like the sheep, uzi, and "Dragon Ball" Remain. Predictably, the game also has wireless multiplayer support, an important feature since at least half of the fun of a Worms game usually comes from playing it with friends. Open Warfare also promises exotic new locations to annihilate, including Hawaii and London. Worms: Open Warfare goes on sale at a suggested retail of $39.99. (Note: Several people have written it (and commented) warning that this game requires firmware 2.6. Consider yourself warned (and thanks to all those who wrote). ). |

The developers of Worms and Lemmings, Team17, is going to release Worms Open Warfare this March 22nd.Those who are familiar with Worms know exactly how addictive this game gets. The object of the whole game is (1) to shoot out or blow out the worms of the other teams by using guns or mines, and (2) remain alive by avoiding landmines and exploding barrels. Worms Open Warfare is available for PSP and DS. Comparisons between these two have been made, and since PSP has better screen resolution than the DS, the scenery and background look better in it than in the DS, though the DS version is still great. With PSP, you can also zoom out and view the whole map, giving you advantage during battle. Worms Open Warfare has a multiplayer mode wherein four players can battle it out and see whose worms survive. |
