South Peak Interactive to bring B-Boy in North America? - Image 1FreeStyle Games' B-Boy is viewed by many as one of the best video games for the PlayStation Portable that never made it to North America. It was first released in Europe back in 2006 and then in South Korea earlier this year.

Now it appears that B-Boy is coming to the States after all, if we are to believe a new listing posted by rental store GameFly. Read more.

B-boy will finally be available in Korea - Image 1Do you guys remember B-Boy? Yeah, that hip-hop themed break-dancing title from FreeStyle Games that was released in North America back in October 2006. Well, Sony Computer Entertainment Korea is happy to announced that the video game will finally be available in Korea.

We know you are already familiar with this title but in case you haven't noticed, three of the many in-game characters actually hail from Korea. They are Hong10, Physicx, and Darkness. Aside from these, the rest of the b-boys will also be making an appearance, there are 40 all in all, mind you, and some of the most notable ones include Crazy Legs, Ivan "The Urban Action Figure", Crumbs, Benny, Kamel, and Mouse.

Basically, the objective of the game is for players to learn and master around 800 motion-captured moves. The game will start in street battles, and if you are good enough, you might actually reach the World Championships. As players progress, their character will earn style, sponsorship, and respect.

And for those who really want to make a name for themselves, B-Boy allows complete character creation that can be modified further in terms of breaker and even wardrobe. There's an arcade mode as well as multiplayer face-offs using PlayStation Portable's (PSP) wireless functionality. All battles will take place in 21 realistic values.

As if these aren't exciting enough, the video game also has its own original soundtrack which features 40 licensed contemporary hip hop and classic funk tracks, mixed and scratched on the fly by in-game DJs.

The B-Boy tagpainted by Montana spray paints

You love them, you hate them - product placement advertising in video games. Hey, some ideas like Pepsi in the Shire will never fly. But there are some product placements that make or should make absolute sense. Sports equipment and sportswear in EA Sports is the perfect example. Then there's spray paint companies in B-Boy.

Yes, spray paints. Because graffiti tagging goes hand-in-hand with hip-hop and B-boy culture. (Remember GTA: San Andreas?)

Montana Colors SL, a well-known brand in the world of paint-in-a-spray can, has collaborated with B-boy dev team FreeStyle Games and in-game ad specialists Hive to get their cans in the breakdance game. "B-Boy represented a great opportunity for us to reach our target audience via an innovative advertising platform," said CEO Ruedi Glatz. Besides the brand, even Montana's own in-house graffiti artists, the Montana Writer Team, have contributed their artwork to B-boy.

"It is critical that prospective players from the hip-hop community view the game as a sympathetic representation of their world, otherwise people simply won't play," says Hive's Rachel Norman. Adding the brand of choice for taggers and graffiti artists everywhere is just one of many steps to bring the hip-hop culture of B-boy to life, such as the soundtrack we've featured earlier.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe SCEE announced B-Boy exclusive to PSP and PS2 today which will be released in September. Developed by Freestyle Games, B-Boy allows you to battle through authentic Hip-Hop break-dancing culture, challenging the world’s best B-Boys on the world’s greatest B-Boy stages - and hopefully take home an in-game Adidas sponsorship along the way.

The first and only authentic break-dancing title on PSP stays true to the spirit of B-Boying thanks to the wireless functionality - giving you the freedom to battle on the move – anytime and anywhere – just as B-Boy competitions were meant to be. Featuring real life B-Boy characters, every in-game move is motion-captured from the experts, including moves taken from world famous Redbull athlete, “Crazy Legs”, who also acts as game MC and end of level boss. Battling around the world, B-Boy features real locations and events, accompanied by the sound of a licensed Hip-Hop and classic Funk soundtrack with each track being selected by the B-Boys featured in-game.

Looks like Sony is announcing all sorts of weird "games" this E3 as they announced Brooktown High yesterday. Well go ahead and check out the screenshots below and decide for yourself.
