I guess not even Johnny Depp's charm can save Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest from harsh critiques of some gamers. Typically, games that have been adapted from the movies are of poor quality, appealing only to die hard fans of the films. It is rather unfortunate that this swashbuckler has fallen the same path. Battle scenes were pretty much follows this order - speed attack, strength move and stun maneuver. And if you keep on doing that for hours on end, you'll just eventually get bored. Add to that the game's inconsistent framerate, it was not only distracting, but unsightly as well. Maybe, to break the battles' monotony, puzzles were inserted into the game. Although the intention was good, the sloppy controls made it impossible for players to accomplish the tasks with ease and ends up getting frustrated, not at the puzzle games, but with the controls. One thing keeping this game afloat is its multiplayer option. Using one game disk, you and three other friends, can engage in an epic sea battle, much like in the movie. You can even take the helm of the legendary Black Pearl if you were able to unlock it single-player mode or take control of Davy Jones' Flying Dutchman. Overall, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is a playable game but not enough to save it from walking the plank. |

The multiplayer game is completely different and takes place in the high seas. You've get three different types of ammunition to choose from that could sink your opponent, destroy his masts, or dispose of the crew with no damage to the ship. As you sail around, various power-ups and treasure are available for the taking. The gold you collect (or steal from your opponents - you ARE a pirate) can be used for repairs and upgrades ready for the next round. The power-ups provides short-term advantages such as extra speed or the ability to ram without incurring damage. The game supports four-player wireless battles (the computer takes over spare slots) which lead to more marine mayhem. For more info on and tons of screenshots check out previous QJ articles here. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest on PSP is schedule to be released second week of July. Download: [Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Official Trailer 2] |

There's only one person cooler than Xena: Warrior Princess, and that's
Cap'n Jack Sparrow. So cue exciting music, kids jumping up and down on
the sofa, human sacrifice, dogs and cats sleeping together, mass
hysteria cus Jack's back!
I luv me a good pirate yarn, and it seems Disney and Buena Vista Games are going to be supplying just that with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Expect swashbuckling adventure on the high seas and on your PSP's this summer!
Even more screens of plundering piracy after the jump! |

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is an action adventure game based on the movie, Pirates of the Caribbean. A trailer has been released for the game that will span across the portable formats, being developed for PSP, DS, and GBA.The PSP game features extremely eccentric Captain Jack Sparrow, the dashing Will Turner, and the feisty Elizabeth Swann as they search the legendary (are there any other kind?) treasure, the Dead Man's Chest, through 10 stages. The PSP version of the game also has a four player ad-hoc multiplayer mode, which is sure to bring in the gold. “This completely different "ship-versus-ship" mini-game bears a striking resemblance to Sid Meier's Pirates but with even more stuff to play with. Ten different maps, customizable ships, and the option to invade your foes ships with crewmates sounds like a lot of fun to us, and it sure plays like it too.” - IGN The short trailer shows in-game footage of Captain Jack Sparrow swinging, jumping, climbing, and sword-fighting his way through an island jungle.
