Kriek - Drink ResponsiblyAmidst all the next-generation buzz with the PS3 and Wii being released in a few days, Fanjita has surprised us all with a new eLoader release! This release is the one that many users have been waiting for - the day that 2.80 can run an eLoader of their own! That's right, 2.80 will now receive a lot of homebrew loving from this release allowing user-mode on 2.80! So, all those beggars who have been awaiting this day for a few months have finally gotten what they wanted - so patience does pay off in the end!

This new eLoader may not "wow" previous eLoader users, but it's a huge step in the homebrew scene, something of which I am proud to report on. There's an interesting new feature that is being included in this loader - a direct experimental homebrew launch from the XMB (cross-media bar) for 2.80 firmware. This has never been done on an eLoader before, so it will be interesting to see how this all pans out.

All current eloader users will find that this does not add much new compatability support for existing applications with a few homebrew less stable than normal (mostly represented on 2.00 firmware). So, Fanjita has come up with an ingenious plan - keep them both and use them both (the older eLoader - v0.99 and the new one - v0.995).

For those that want the full feature/change list, here it is -

  • 2.80-capable loader (user-mode only)
  • Direct experimental homebrew launching from XMB - called xLoader! Read more about this in the readme file
  • Power Suspend and Resume support
  • Install-o-tron bundled (homebrew downloader for your PSP from the psp-homebrew.eu database)
  • Built-in PSP Keyboard Works
The installation procedure is the same as every other eLoader, so just follow the previous method of installation (or read the readme if you have a bad memory). As with recent releases of eLoader, a Windows Installer is included (first download file), so most users will find no difficulty at all installing this! Also, please drink responsibly if you are of a legal age, we do not want to see you throwing around your PSP's while drinking Kriek.

UPDATE 1: Jordan Black has also informed us about the PatchSFO tool for Eloader 0.995 which users may need for using this new eLoader. According to the readme file that comes with this tool:

This program is used to patch the EBOOT files to make them compatable with firmware 2.80. This application goes through all of the applications installed in MS0:/PSP/GAME/ and patches them so that they will start with xLoader.

This was a tool that we used during testing and we thought it would be useful to users, the source is provided as well so that if anyone wants to build this into an nice application, you can do.

It will presumably also work for making homebrew compatible with Dark Alex's HEN C, although we haven't tested that to confirm it.

UPDATE 2: Here's a compatibility list (thanks to Freeplay) of the "major" PSP homebrew applications and games. You can download them all from our download site, so you'll get the fastest downloads available! Each will have the name of the game/application followed by a brief description, click on the name to download.

[Daedalus R8] - StrmnNrmn's N64 emulator for the PSP - latest and best release so far
[PSPRadio v0.38.12 - Static] - One of my favorite applications - listen to various online "radio" stations that are perfectly streamed to your PSP via WiFi
[PiMPStreamer v0.62] - Wirelessly transmit videos to your PSP at crips, clear quality and sound (newer versions available, but v0.62 reported to work
[PSP Revolution v0.1] - Dance Dance Revolution clone for PSP - Created by DeNitro (Great game!)
[SuperTux] - Deniska, porting-guru, ported this classic side-scrolling game to the PSP with a perfect transition. Seeing this game on the list reminded me how much fun I had with the game, I'm going to re-download it!
[FileAssistant++] - 71M's greatest creation - a file managing program for the PSP (best managing system)
[Squarez v0.8.1] - Socal's greatest creation, the classic homebrew Squarez. I played 20+ hours of this (yes, I have the logs to prove it)
[SNES9x TYL v0.4.2 ME] - Greatest SNES emulator (created by YoYofr)

And another thing: How did he manage that without kernel mode? The Xloader, I mean.
I'm on 2.71 SE so I havn't downloaded it, so i'm sorry if it was in the readme.

You do know that a replacement screen is about 1/4 the price of a brand new psp and extremely easy to replace, right? Why would you get a whole new psp? Don't tell me you actually sent it back under warranty...

My PSP screen cracked recently... I'm buying a new screen for 1/6 the cost of a new psp, and 1/3 the cost of sending it back to Sony.

what about firmware 2.82?? does it work on it????

   Re: Joel (Unregistered) - 2006-11-15
 » what?

y would you upgrade to 2.82 when they specifically said that tiff exploit works for 2.00 to 2.80, + don't you remember the rule? "DON'T UPGRADE!*"

*unless it's a custom firmware..SE-B anyone?
btw: SE-B or A wont work on 2.80+....not yet, HA!

   Re: lavasofa (Unregistered) - 2006-11-15
 » well

i think vice city stories marrits an update can someone please just make a downgrader you can decrypt 2.81 so why not dowgrade it whats taking so long

   Re: kyelewis (Unregistered) - 2006-11-15
 » It's not that easy

lavasofa: Currently, there's no exploit for 2.81; we can't run any homebrew unsigned code on it, so there's no way we could downgrade it.

Even if we could run unsigned code, we still wouldn't have a way to give it access to flash0, required to flash the firmware (which is needed to downgrade). We can only decrypt it because it uses the same keys as 2.80, and we could get the 2.80 keys because they were left in memory and could be reached through the TIFF exploit.

If you wanted it to be done sonner, then why didn't you learn to code yourself and do it yourself. Then you wouldn't need to complain about how long it takes. It isn't exactly the most easiest thing to make an eLoader for 2.80. And, who are you, their teacher? They don't care what kind of grade you give them...
