Can't wait for the mod-chip to come!
cant wait man!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"a video of the Epsilon BIOS working in the coming days"
Well, in a few days this is confirmed or not. Come on, let it be real.
And yes, slow as always qj?
If you can run ISO's that require 2.7 + ZOMG! how sweet is that, now I can back up all my games and play them off the mem stick....
Yeah, if we get a vid of this ill be screaming.
Wow.
I higly doubt the odds of this being real
I made my own custom fw that added componets to 1.5
Browser/Media coditics
But I found it almost impossabe to add the needed PRX files
to higher fw's
The main resion this is bs is their clam of having 2.71 fetures.
We still havent even decripted the 2.71 fw, nor do we have a dump of 2.7x
Deducting that this must be a fraud
This is a bit odd.
To QJ: I would suggest taking down the Undiluted Platinum picture. I know that it might be a bit confusing, you know?
I mean, the impression that I took away from it is that this custom firmware type stuff could be put on the installed flash, right? Like, it wouldn't need the Undiluted Platinum?
Also, would it let you run ANY firmware's game?

#6 just because you did a piss-poor hack job doesn't mean that it cannot be done.
The mod chip is required for this program to work.
ISO loading just gave it away. Sorry but I believe Epsilon is fake, but the chip is real.
just my 2 cents
Anything could be created, just as along you have the resource and the knowledge to do it. I can't wait to get this. I hope they release like they said about 1 to 2 weeks on release and fix that alittle problem soon.
I update my psp to 2.7 just to play a game, and now I could downgrade or load iso straight from my psp without any iso loader, just put the compress image in the game folder. I mean thats really awsome. When the update that comes with PSone emulator comes around, I hope it works with the modchip too.
Sounds like its pretty much how it was done on the first Xbox. I hope you can disable the chip, like on the newer Xbox chips, so you can boot from the internal firmware.
It could easily load ISO's if its a custom firmware with 2.71+ modules which can run homebrew (ISO's could be seen as just regular UMD's in this case).
now the psp is usful
bit off topic but does any1 know if the modchip will be shipping to australia? ive had a look on the net and cant find anything saying if it will be
if this is a free download then screw the mod chip im going to get this
#16 if u read the whole article u would have relized u need the modchip to run it
You need the modchip installed so you can install the BIOS.
@15
im sure any modding place or person u see in papers or online will have the PSP mod in a few months/weeks.
in oz
hope this is real along with the chip, so all the people talking s*** to the people who upgraded will feel stupid.
let this be true :) I'd do anything for it to be~
I will only believe after I see it in action.
Hey, this is on the front page of *****:
"A talented Team have been hard at work on a custom flash replacement for the PSP, which will not only allow you to use homebrew files and run unsigned code on the PSP but will also allow you to enjoy the quality features built into all $ony PSP Firmware revisions, right up there to the current v2.71 Firmware! The Team behind the Epsilon BiOS have completely cracked the encryption methods and developed the OS hacks to run unsigned code and even in kernel mode. The Team have been unable to release this previously due to the lack of a mod-chip for the PSP, but with the much talked about Undiluted Platinum PSP Mod just around the corner, a dream can now become a viable reality! The Epsilon BiOS will be released soon. Epsilon BiOS Team Statement:
Epsilon BiOS is a custom flash "replacement" for the $ony PSP which unleashes the full potential of your handheld, allowing you to both use homebrew software and run UMD iSO games from your Memory Stick on the latest Firmware releases while also enjoying the impressive features built into the operating system such as RSS feeds, WMA support etc. Currently the 2.71 Firmware release is supported - that's right, this means we have cracked the new encryption methods and developed the operating system hacks necessary to allow unsigned code to run, even in kernel mode.
We have been developing Epsilon BiOS for quite some time, but due to the fact that it requires a dual-flash system (one flash is used to bootstrap our code, the other stores the normal PSP Firmware) we have been unable to release it - until now, with the appearance of the Undiluted Platinum mod-chip. Previously we had been using our own custom hardware for development, however about a week ago we received Undiuluted Platinum prototypes and have since modified our code to work with their hardware - its working great, despite a few bugs which we need to iron out before the release. For those who are wondering, yes, you will need an Undiluted Platinum installed in your PSP to take advantage of this.
As mentioned above, using Epsilon BiOS its possible to launch homebrew software from the memory stick, kernel mode access is also available for software which requires this. Both 1.0 and 1.5 style EBOOTs are supported. UMD iSO loading is almost transparent, simply copy your iSO files into a directory on your Memory Stick and they will appear under "Game -> Memory Stick" in the operating system menu alongside your homebrew applications. Simply launch them from here, no need to use a seperate iSO loader application. Furthermore, since the games are actually running on 2.x Firmware you dont need to worry about strange loading methods or patching the iSO files - they will simply work, in their original state. We have also developed our own compressed iSO format and will be distributing a packing tool.
We will be releasing a video over the next few days showing Epsilon BiOS in action - keep an eye out for this! As for the actual release, this depends on how soon we can resolve the remaining issues, but we hope to have it out within 1-2 weeks."
Sounds pretty authentic to me.
if they actually decrypted the files then why cant they just put the custom firmware together, and have users flash it in with a modified PSPset?
"Previously we had been using our own custom hardware for development..."
Like what?
This smells like a big steaming pile of poo.
If this is really true and authentic, this has the potential to give the PSP what it needs to be on the top as far as portable gaming is concerned
so... is this the first custom for psp if its true? whats BIOS? err... im so confused:[
It seems convincing to me, they use the mod-chip flash memory to boot a program that launch and patches on the fly the firmware contained in the ma¡n PSP NAND flash.
This way they don´t have to decrypt the firmware files, just debug some memory addresses and patch (but you need the modchip).
Can´t wait to see this in action.
""Previously we had been using our own custom hardware for development..."

you're hilarious!!!
team xecuter had custom PSP HW since last year they were the first to get CF CD and MMC cards to work on the PSP
"The main resion this is bs is their clam of having 2.71 fetures.
We still havent even decripted the 2.71 fw, nor do we have a dump of 2.7x"
not too hard.
for example: load FW1.5 off of the modchip and then dump the 2.71 FW files from flash0 and flash1
"if they actually decrypted the files then why cant they just put the custom firmware together, and have users flash it in with a modified PSPset?"
I believe it had something to do with the boostrap portion of the FW code.....
not exactly sure why the custom FW itself isn't enough to boot up the PSP, but if I understand correctly, this is supposed to read SOME files off of flash0 and the rest off the modchip - kinda like how you have to use an original DS cast with the PASS-ME and MAGIC KEY when you want to play DS roms off of your flash cart.
