eyeVio - Image 1

Sony Corp. has announced that it will launch a video-sharing site in Japan. Most reports note that this is the company's first step in challenging Google Inc.'s dominant YouTube service. The service is set to be called eyeVio and Sony notes that it hopes to introduce it outside of the country. However, it cautions that it wants to gauge the reception at home first before taking the service international.

Perhaps what's most interesting about the eyeVio service is that it's set to allow users to download PSP (and iPod) compatible video files. There will also be a mobile version of eyeVio that should allow users to upload videos to the service from their mobile devices.

More interesting is that the logo for eyeVio has an icon for the old "boomerang" PS3 controller in it. Given that Sony's PlayStation 3 is updated via firmware, an inclusion of it into the service wouldn't be farfetched.

A Reuters report notes that other companies like News Corp. and NBC Universal are also set to launch free online video services.

Given the massive number of Japanese youths with mobile devices, will this prove to be a good move for Sony? One could certainly hope. What we're really looking forward to is the integration of this service with PlayStation Home, PlayStation Network, and the PSP. We can dream right?

has been in the works for 8 months now and will start in the US in a matter of weeks, unsure of the numbers right now but it's hoped to rivel Google video by allowing multiplatform access.

Just when I was thinking that the first posters and flamers would lay off for a while, it appears if you can't be a first poster why not be the first flamer. Right on dude, your so original with that post. Lemme guess, your just pissed that you can't first post and expressing it by being the first flamer for no reason at all, just to be a hater. You know how I can tell... because theres no substance to your post other than flaming. Yeah... you would have "Woot First" if I hadn't stopped you by actually writing something on topic.

Sony can do it. If they make it so you can browse around faster than youtube. And make it faster than it. youtube already has a huge amount of members... google video has good quality vids, and its fast,... but no one uses it.

Like the author said, it's interesting to see the boomerang controller... but what's the orange icon to the bottom left of the PSP? It sure looks like a PSP, but with a different grip...
Is this a current product? ...Or is it a future product?

Last time I checked, both the PS1 and PS2 were runaway successes. PS3 isn't doing too badly either.
