gbaOkay, you guys already know how bad online translation engines churn things out. So here's Takka's unofficial version of the GBA Emulator GPSP for the PSP. Just in case you've been living under a rock gpSP is a GBA emulator released for the PSP with great compatibility and performance. There, refresher done, no more words for the unfamiliar. If you're really curious click on the link.

Anyway, the web-lator for Takka's release says:

The acceleration of save state With this environment
With sony 1G [memosute] approximately 25 seconds - > approximately 2.5 seconds (acceleration of approximately 10 times)
With san disk 4G [memosute] approximately 2.5 seconds - > approximately 2.5 seconds (almost the change)
Was.

Yep. Online translation rules! [enter Homer's signature D-oh! here] Nice version though Takka! Good job.

when using my orignal 32mb the savestate was so slow before...but on my sandisk 4g ultra II it taks less than one sec ha! so there is no need to get this version if you got a fast mem stick

I got a SanDisk 4GB HighSpeed and its still slow as hell to save. So maybe I should download this.

Ahhhh!! Think of all the nanoseconds you are going to save.

but its still cool to know that the gpsp project is still being tweaked and continued.

Why the hell I always must put the configures when I go to play!?! Why they don't save when I fix those configures way that I like? Are the reason that I use 2Gb memory card or what???

I'm still getting freezes on The Minish Cap. It's not the battle with Octo. It when I'm trying to climb Viel Falls. =

I guess I'll have to wait for the next real version.

Does it still freeze with Octo though?

   Re: Syphon - 2006-11-12
 » Octo

I'm not sure, I passed that boss long ago using the "lantern on for 1 second" method. But I'm pretty sure it still freezes as this version of gPSP isn't any different from 0.8.

» What does this do exactly?!

what features does it have that gpSP .8 is lacking? can it play GTA:ADVANCE?

   by Sandman53 (Unregistered) - 2006-11-12
 » Yay...

This little fix made savestates a viable option for me. The save time before this was like a minute... HORRID! With this new offspring version its around 10 seconds.

Also you can now change the sound buffer. I find the sound cuts out less with the buffer maxed. I'm not sure yet how that expects the speed of emulation though.

 » hmmm...

I know, I sound like a loser, but this I don't understand. When I open up gpSP, it works fine. Then, when I try to load a rom, it goes to a screen that is black with white text and then exits to the XMB. Whats the problem?

 » uh...

its likely that u dont have a gba bios. if you do have the bios wit the correct md5(i think thats the #) then you dont have it named correctly.

 » er...bad jump?

that rom that ur trying to run wont work or it has a bad jump...error 04....summing like that usually it also depends of the sizes of the roms usually it doesnt work for games at 16 mb yet 32 ones work fine...hmmm...quite a few of them games dont work for sum damn reason still tho it is getting better and i cant complain....emulator rocks!

Are BIOS's needed for this one too?

 » ok

thanks, this might help, but I did look at the working list for it, and supposedly the roms I have are supposed to work. Oh well, I'll try some others.

Don't really notice anything new. Same games that didn't load still don't, same ones that did still do. Really love the emu - would like to see more compatibility in future updates. Thanks 4 the work.

 » yea

I'm still having trouble with the minish cap, psp keeps crashing at a certain point. However, this update has GREATLY increased the speed at which the emulator saves games, which is awesome. Keep up the good work
   by Exophase - 2006-11-12
» Don't expect this to fix games

Okay, clarification.

Writing to the memstick is slow on Sony brand sticks if you do it in several small chunks, which is what my version of gpSP does. If you make it write it all out at once it's much slower.

I didn't have this problem because I did all testing on a Sandisk stick that doesn't have this hardware flaw.

So if you're confused as to why some people say it's really slow, others say it isn't, it has to do with the brand.

I'll probably incorporate this into gpSP 0.9. I'm reluctant to because it costs a lot of memory.

For further fun and edification, here's Exophase's classification of gpSP improvements. I will least these from most to least significant. Most significant means needs the most work and time, requires the most actual understanding of the source, and benefits people the most.

Class A: Compatability improvements and hardcore internal optimizations to either the dynarec (like anything analysis based) or video rendering. I spend most of my time these days working on these.

Class B: New features like savestates, auto frameskip, whatever. I spend time on these but they're lower priority. They take a lot of work but not as much debugging. They require SOME understanding of the internal workings of everything but are usually more auxilary.

Class C: Little tweaks and fixes that change certain performance parameters of things for certain cases. Usually only help some people.

Most unofficial releases will see things in category C, maybe a few in B (aeolesc had some of that)

Not that it's not useful, but you shouldn't expect random people to produce anything outright stunning.

i wish someone would make a gba emulator that uses the TIFF exploit. its probably possible, id try if i could program, but i cant :(

by eggwonder(refuses to log in) (Unregistered) - 2006-11-12
 » uh...

an emulator is unlikely for tiff. from what i see all that can be used is text.
