iRshell v3.9 - Image 1

Homebrew developer AhMan has released iRshell v3.9. The developer has given word that this is the final public release of the application and that he is retiring from the PSP scene.

The latest version of iRshell is now compatible with firmware v 3.80 M33-2, M33-4, and M33-5. In addition, the application also has support for 3.80 Popsloader version 2. Here's the complete list of new features as taken from the release thread:
  • Added support for 3.80M33-2, M33-4 & M33-5. Pls note M33-1 & M33-3 are not supported due to some technical issues which I'm lazy to resolve.
  • Added support for 3.80 Popsloader Version 2. Version 1 isn't supported.
  • The 1.5 Kernel Addon for 3.71M33 & 3.80M33 has caused some incompatibility issues with fw 1.5 iR Shell. This is now resolved.
  • Enhance PSP ISO compatability. Previously failed ISOs will probably work in this release.
  • For slim only, the nethostfs MAX mode is now compatible with WPA.
  • Some older firmware supports have been removed to reduce the distribution archive. This version has support for fw 1.5, 3.10 to 3.80. Also, directories EXTAPP15 & EXTAPP3X have been combined into a single EXTAPP to save space. Each APP# directory has 2 EBOOTs, with EBOOT.PBP for fw 3.x and EBOOT15.PBP for fw 1.5.
This version also has a couple of bugfixes that users might want ton know. Here's the comlete bugfix list as taken from the applcaition's readme file:
  • Launch XMB will now show UMD disc icons, even NoUMD modes are selected.
  • Fixed some nethostfs & UMD compatibility issues.
  • Fixed the compatibility between Sony NP9660 NoUMD Mode & launching PSOne game via nethostfs.
  • Turning off nethostfs sometimes crashed the PSP. This has been fixed.
Like all homebrew, remember to go over all the documentation included with the program to avoid any unwanted incidents. To AhMan, where ever life's road will take you, god speed and good luck! We're sending you our best wishes and many thanks for all your contributions to the PSP community.

Thanks to Hatter and F34R for the hot tip!

What is nethostfs? I have used IR Shell before but I have never known what this is.

   Re: Strongbadunit2 - 2008-01-28
 » well

As u can see the homebrew scene is now near dead +[ it was good while it lasted with the constant exploits but now the psp is becoming maxed out on what it can do...iR Shell helped the psp to be all it could be and as proof that the psp scene is now dead is the lack of jumps this recieved even though it is the last one +[

Hopefully Some other company will come out with a mor epowerful exploitable handheld...Microsoft would be nice eh?

I still remember those summer days laying in bed with my 2.71 psp playing my crappy flash homebrew waiting for an exploit and then BAM a POC invented then some little games come through then a downgrader

irshell.org is not ran by AhMan. It was created by beta tester F34r as a tech support site for the end user and general chitchat :)

 » Never knew that.

I was always under the impression that AhMan owned the site. Thanks for the info.

If you don't feel like reading then don't bother with PSP homebrew, you'll just end up bricking your PSP. :P

There is a guide PDF that comes with it. Just read it.

 » Errors

I for the life of me cannot get USBHOSTfs to work correctly. I am running under 3.80 M33-5, 1.5 kernal installed as well, running 3.9 version of irShell, and have patched it. Installed new USBHOSTfs on my computer. I can link the PSP and comp, see the files I am attempting to run (backup isos) but everytime I try to launch I get an error. Am I missing something?

   Re: J0539h - 2008-01-28
 » Same here

I see the isos using usbhostfs and nethostfs, read the instructions, but still can't launch the games.

   Re: J0539h - 2008-01-29
 » Here's a clue.

I have the same setup, but when I connect my PSP to my NSLU2 using USB, it works, so it's probably PC related, I tried updating my USBHOSTFS files but still no luck. Anyways, in my case, it proves that its not the PSP but XP. Good luck.

You have the time to sit here and type messages, while complaining that you have no time to read a quick installation guide? Just read the PDF and save yourself the trouble. It'll take much less time then typing up comments.
   by arg - 2008-01-28
 » why

Not quite sure what the point of this has been, i'm glad he's done wasting his time with it.

What is the point of using something that is another step past the XMB? It's not that pretty even, why not just use the XMB unless you want to use a homebrew app to make your PSP look homebrewy.. YAY!

   Re: mov - 2008-01-28

It's not supposed to be pretty. It's supposed to be functional and memory-light.

As for that last worthless comment, you obviously have no idea what iR Shell can do.

Sad to see him go, Now im gona have to think hard before updating t newer Firmwares when then arrive. i like IR Shells and now that he is gone im afraid to ever update again :(

   by YAMI ANUBIS X - 2008-01-29
 » Oh retirement eh.

You people should know better than to jump to conclusions by thinking hes LEAVING PERMINENTLY!

All homebrew creators leave and then come back, thats what there definition of RETIREMENT means, so if theres a new firmware that comes out, Ahman will just make another IRSHELL that works on that firmware.

Oh yeah by the way, if Microsoft really brought out a handheld, you really think it would be exploitable, be able to use homebrew and anything on it, NO they will be worse than Sony with it.

You have seen the Xbox 360 and how hard it is to EXPLOIT IT and if you do exploit it, they ban you off Xbox live perminently, oh yeah online gaming on a handheld made by them, they would force you to pay 50 bucks to play online, not free like PSP and DS.

Oh yeah and then the downloadable content stuff will be on it to for 30 bucks for such and such.

It will just drain you of all money with online and such like they did with the Xbox 360.

Just admitting the facts that if they did make a handheld, you would have to pay to play online and it would be hard to crack because you would be banned.

Microsoft is a powerful company but also drains people of there money. Plus you shouldnt count Sony out just yet, they are creating a PSP2.

This is not a flame, I am just admitting the facts that if Microsoft brought out a handheld, it will be just the same as the Xbox 360 but in the form of a smaller device.

   Re: iNN3rTuRm0iL - 2008-01-29
 » o rlly?

Anything is hackable or exploitable, you just need enough time. Pretty sure even microsoft wouldn't charge for handheld internet, and downloadable content always costs money.

Plus i rlly dont see a downside to a 360 handheld. If they could make a handheld perform that good we'd all be orgasming for hours.

Who wouldn't want to play halo3 or assassins creed on a handheld?

   Re: mov - 2008-01-29

RTFM and install the EFFING PATCH!
   by J0539h - 2008-01-29
» The problem is the PC

When I connected my PSP to my NSLU2 it worked, when I installed the USBHOSTFS drivers on another PC,(Type B stuff) it worked, but when I use my regular PC, it would either give me an application error or run the UMD and not the ISO.

So the solution to the problem of people not being able to launch ISO/CSO is not a setting with IR Shell or applying the patch, you may be having the same problem as I am having, with your XP box.
