Ó

netlib v1.2youresam from our forums has just updated netlib. It's a library of functions which developers can use so that they dont have to re-type the code. They can simply call the functions from this library and it will do its work. Also in the newest version, youresam has added a really wacky function. You can make phone-calls! Yep, you read that right. But you can't actually talk to the opposite guy. But hey, it might just happen in the future.

Originally, PsPmad's idea, youresam implemented it into netlib. Here's how it works:

  • Edit the config.txt file and fill in your phone number, and the number which you want to call.
  • Now simply call up the number. It's completely anonymous! Though, don't come back crying if your girlfriend's dad comes after you like a lunatic for making prank calls.
There are two limitations though. You can only use "your number" 3 times. Yep, no more. It will be solved in one of the upcoming versions. The second limitation is that it can only be used in the US of A. Why don't you guys try it out and report your findings below. Be advised though, this library is originally meant for developers. The only use for the common PSP user is for some fun. Just wait until some developer integrates this into his homebrew.

Awesome, now if we get a microphone add on soon we can finally use our PSP's like a cellphone.

 » talkman

I hope we will be able to use the usb microphone for homebrew when talkman will be out :)

 » Uhh

Thinking about that, it'd be pretty hard to do, maybe impossible.

Use PSP as a cellphone?!WTF?
Does it cost anything to make a call?
In future when they have made this like a "real" phone, i wonder how many will actually use PSP as a cell?

 » talkman/socom

has anyone figured out how to use the microphone that comes with either socom or talkman (preferably the talkman one as its cooler than having a big chunky headset on) in any homebrew yet? In the choice++ eloader it has an option to detect if a microphone is connected, but i don't see the point of it yet.

 » Misleading

Hmm, the information is kind of misleading. It uses http://www.searchitcallit.com to do the calls, but in reality, all it does is make someone call your HOME phone, not your PSP.

 » Not misleading at all

This would be an awesome homebrew app...

Actually, when you use the function, 'your' phone rings, then when you answer it, 'their' phone rings.

And I've found out more info:
3 limit PER DAY (YAY!)
3 minute limit per call

its kinda weird. the only thing i see usefull in this is to make prank calls with. It wont be able to be used to make the PSP a cellphone. BUT it does set up a phone call between two phones with no caller ID. Kinda interesting.

 » headset....?

u think u could use the headset to talk to the other person and ur psp name ex. monkeyboy and use the remote control included with the psp to answer u no the buttons on there or u could make the screen light up and show the name of the person whos calling and also use the O button to talk just like SOCOM just some thoughts that would be good for this program

phoneee!

   by youresam - 2006-04-30

No one has been able to use the headset function (as far as I know..).

And this ISNT supposed to be a cellphone app, its just a cool function I added. The title is misleading.

HERES MY IDEAD:

If its possible, make it work with a headset for voice input.
And even better, implement this code into a soundboard for the PSP so you can make REAL prank calls!

   by youresam - 2006-04-30

19, 20, 21, it doesnt work outside USA.

22, I dont think there is a way to get mic input.

Also, we are trying to get a new server working that will make it unlimited! :)

   by youresam - 2006-04-30

Oh, and #21, I forgot, when that happens, restore default settings. Your WLAN wont work with LuaPlayer until you do.

 » Yet more useful information!

OMG a library is a bunch of functions for programmers! So they don't have to type it in again!

What will they think of next, games that you put into your psp that run so you don't have to type them in yourself?

Could someone give basic writing courses to the author of this article please? And perhaps the entire staff?
