piKey: meet piKitty - Image 1Let's get those keys singing, shall we? The Noobz team has worked over piKey so that it will register - and thus sing - while communicating with 3.30 and 3.40 OE firmwares.

Just in case this is the first time you're reading about this, piKey's an application that enables the use of wireless keyboards with the PSP, both in text-input and program command functions within various applications.

Besides that improvement, the team also reports that they've made a few enhancements as well, to improve across-the-board compatibility with games and homebrew:

  • Now works on 3.30 OE and 3.40 OE (okay, got that covered)
  • Configurable hotkey to disable piKey at boot time
  • Can be disabled for v1.50 mode in configuration
Get cracking: Download links below, readme's in the file, you know the drill by now.

Download: piKey v0.3

Homebrew support but will it support HB in 3.03 OE-C?
I'll find out and reply once I've tested it.

Thanks for the update Fanjita & NOObz!

Nope, no HB support for 3.03 OE-C unless it requires installing differently than 0.2 and I
tried Installation two different ways. One way allowing install for 1.50 by pressing "X" for ok and the other way pressing "O" for skipping the installation for 1.50 like what was required with piKey 0.2. Both ways proved non-functional for homebrew in 3.03 OE-C. Still may work for 3.30 and 3.40 though. I do not know since I don't have those firmwares installed. Good luck to all of you and if you find a way to get it functional for 3.03 please post directions on how too. Thanks

Ought to work... did you enable the plugin in the recovery menu? What happens when you try to run homebrew? Is that homebrew in v1.50 mode, or 3.03 mode?

 » pikey progress?

I remember about a month ago, fanjita released the beta pikey driver for the psp. Anyone know where they are with the progress? Does the pikey work with internet, homebrew, or typing in games (for example chat on Socom).

if your reading this and you havent upgraded to 3.40 yet, i only got one thing to say.

why not just downgrade again? ah, it would take just as much work i guess. so then why take a ***** why not just do it in your own pants? you are lazy dumb and should prolly pass that psp onto someone smarter.

btw: ppl are ALL over the nintendo DS! maybe it's about time to pick one up? they dont require any firmware updates.

 » Text editor

Doe anyone know if there's a generic text editor available that works with piKey? I'd like to be able to edit LUA scripts directly on the PSP.

 » NICE

Finally I can watch UMD movies on a big screen! Or play SOCOM online with my computers screen and Logitech speakers and not strain my eyes. I wonder if there is even possibly a way I could use a keyboard or ps2 control (using pikey/ IR Shell) to control the game LOL. Although this sounds a bit ironic, to me it is great I can dock the psp with my computer and have a greater gaming experience, and when I rarely do need the portability, I can just slip the psp in my pocket. This is what I love about the homebrew scene. Furthermore, I’m sure everyone hates all the time it takes converting to PMP AVC format (however there is a great website called pmp-avc.com that has a few recent movies already converted for download as torrents). Along with the now fully functional pikey v0.3, which allows you to type with a Targus IR keyboard onto the psp, this is one of the most useful applications that has come around for the psp for me. Next thing on developer’s minds should be a real typing program, such as pspWORD (Im serious). OH YEAH...if fanjita reads this...please have try to make palm support because it has a better space bar and AA Batteries (so i can use rechargeable ones), and MAKE A PLUGIN FOR IT SO WE CAN PLAY PS1 GAMES ON PSP WITH THE KEYBOARD!!!
