As emulators go, there's been a serious shortage for ones simulating Sony's PlayStation Portable. Fortunately, homebrew developer Actarus recently began a new project focusing on the creation of a PSP emulator entitled "Sam".

However, don't get your hopes up too high just yet. The developer mentioned that this emulator is only capable of playing pspsdk demos for now. While this may seem like a disappointment to many, at least it's a definite step towards the right direction for many homebrew developers.

Actarus mentioned that the biggest obstacle while working on Sam would have to be the IO ports and how their addresses work. Any devs willing to work with Actarus can contact him through his website, accessible through the link below.

As always, please make sure to check out the included documentation for details on the different controls and specifications of the app. If you're interested in checking it out, you can download the file through the link we've provided.

Download: Sam 1.0.0.0

Windows 95/98/Me/XP/Vista + OpenGL
Windows NT4/2000 (not tested but should work...)

This is a good start. There was another group working on one but apparently they've vanished off the face of the earth. Hope it's fast though.

The only thing that makes my psp worthwhile is that its hacked. Who would want to emulate a system that is nothing but crappy ports and *****ty controls.

I applaud his ability as a programmer, but he could be doing something better with his time.

 » well

eh.. I was going to type some more but I decided it was tasteless to attack someone on the net. But seriously ZX, code something cool for once (like that idea I posted on your forums awhile back you immediately shot down, that would be cool as hell.)

That algebra calculator saved me in Linear Algebra class. Without it, I'd be spending hundreds of dollars on something I'd only use once.
