PlayStation Portable Slim & Lite owners who've checked out homebrew developer Abhoth's Kosmodrones will be happy to know that the latest version released now includes support for the newer handhelds. Aside from that, Kosmodrones v1.02 includes a brand new race level that side scrolling shooter fans will definitely enjoy. More in the full article.

PSP homebrew developer Abhoth just announced that Kosmodrones is up and ready for download. We've heard about the game a few days ago, which offered much promise as a side-scrolling shooter that took cues from Amiga classics Turboraketti and Gravity Force.

Abhoth did mention that the game will be out soon, but we're more than glad that it's already here. Looking at the trailers alone would tell you that the team members behind Kosmodrones spent time on it. The game itself is a nice ride.

You'll get two folders from the download, but feel free to drop them down both to the Game 150 folder. For those too excited to check out the controls, here's what you need to know:

• X - thrust
• Analog nub - rotate ship
• Right shoulder button - fire single bullet
• Left shoulder button - hold in to charge a burst of bullets.
• Square - drop explosive
• Triangle - detonate explosive
• Start - Pause/Restart/Return to main menu

As usual, spending sometime with the Readme file can pay off in spades. Don't forget to browse through it, especially if you want to know how to upload scores or download race recordings.

PSP homebrew developer Abhoth dropped by our forums to announce an upcoming game called Kosmodrones. It's a racing homebrew game and judging from what we saw of the teaser, it shows bucketfuls of promise.

According to the Kosmodrones website, the game was based on "Amiga classics like Turboraketti and Gravity Force". It definitely brought back memories of other retros like Thrust and Subterrania. If you're unfamiliar with that sort of gameplay, it's basically like this: you're controlling a ship on a course of various obstacles and you'll need to control your ship by the using the boosters and swivelling at opportune times.

Anyway, the development of Kosmodrones was a team effort headed presumably by Abhoth (code, game design, audio, and music). The members are as follow: Frodefrank and Lukelok (graphics and game design), Polkapixel (graphics), Insertwittyname (online highscore system), Raphael (video support), and Circular (music).

Abhoth noted that the game is going to be released to the public soon, though there wasn't a specific date given. It's probably safe to assume that Kosmodrones is coming this month as that was shown in the teaser trailer. While we're all waiting to try out the said game, check out the screenshots that showcase the different tracks or races available in the game.
