Block Dude was created by cools - Image 1 Block Dude was created by cools - Image 2

After more than four months, homebrew developer cools decided to update one of his more popular homebrew games called Block Dude. He just dropped by QJ.net PSP Development forum and released version 0.2. Basically, this is somewhat a puzzle game as you have to figure out how to reach the door by moving various blocks hindering your path.

According to cools, he tried to make this game as close as possible to the calc one created by Brandon Sterner. Block Dude v0.2 comes with all the original 11 levels and there are three extras from the flash remake. The developer added that a handful of custom-made levels made by Access_Denied, Beefland, and Spirit Hawk have been included as well. As for the changelog,
  • Updated MP3Lib, now will filter mp3's better
  • Automatic Scrolling
  • Level Editor
  • Level Uploader
  • GFX Mods!
  • No More Oldpad/Pad thing
  • MANY BUGFIXES!
  • Others as well...
Lastly, cools encourages everyone to take a look at the game's level editor and feel free to create their own and share them with the rest of the community. You can do so through our forum link below. Please read first the accompanying Readme file for controls and other information.

Unit Converter v0.9 - Image 1

Access_Denied, now posting as Altimax, dropped by our forums to announce an updated version of his Unit Converter application.  As the name would imply, Unit Converter can convert measurements from one particular unit to another, such as inches to centimeters.

Built from the ground up, Unit Converter v0.9 fully converts length, weight, volume, area, and temperature. Access_Denied says it needs some added work before he can release it as version 1 though, because he's been unable to get data conversions working properly on the application. Still, in its current state, this is a solid app for anyone who wants a quick and easy way to convert units of measurement.

As with any PSP application, you'd do well to check the readme. It has instructions for installing the application, as well as info on how to use it. Enjoy!

PSP - Image 1Coder extraordinaire Access_Denied has added yet another PSP homebrew app to his long list of fab creations. This time, he's out to help all of us neophyte French speakers master the lingo.

But, before you guys take this app for an instructional one, let us clarify. Access_Denied says that French-2-Go isn't meant to teach you French, it can only quiz you on some of the French words you already know. As Access_Denied puts it, "this program could never teach you sentence structure and conjugation."

The app currently has three modes: English to French Dictionary, Quiz Mode Random (where it randomly picks English words and you have to guess the French translation for it), and Quiz Mode Alphabetical. Included in his to-do list for this app's next release are French Quiz modes and a French to English dictionary.

Again, this is just the first release so if you guys find any bugs or unpleasant whatnots, you can email Access_Denied at ddrdude1234@gmail.com. Or you can use that comments button below and let your suggestions be known.

PSPxploren has just informed us via our forums about Access_Denied's latest homebrew game, Magic Squares v1.0.

Magic Squares is a simple logic game where the basic objective is to make all the columns and rows equal to each other without using any number twice. So yeah, it requires logic and it involves numbers, and it's actually quite difficult, but if you're up for the challenge then by all means, feel free to take a crack at it.

Access_Denied (who, by the way, was also the one who brought us TIFF Periodic Table v2) says that this version currently has a 3 x 3 grid, a 4 x 4 grid, and a 5 x 5 grid. He's planning to bump up the grids in the next version to go up to 7 x 7, but he's still not sure because getting through the 5 x 5 is pretty tough already. So anyway, if you wanna prove Access_Denied wrong and show that the 5x5 grid is a breeze, you know what to do; download the game below and tell us about it via the comments, alrighty?

Periodic table

For the guys who picked up Access_Denied's TIFF Periodic Table v2, we've got something for you. It looks like Access_Denied's been listening in on the buzz over his earlier creation, because he's released PSPeriodic Table v3. Okay, so he didn't release it himself, but he did get xploren over at the forums to let out the third installment of this Periodic  table.

And for those asking, yes - he's decided to make the most out of the 2.8 eLoader, and has converted this app into C format (it took about 10 minutes). Aside from this major tweak, Access_Denied's also added these other extra features:
  • Name
  • Symbol
  • Number
  • Mass
  • Electronic Configuration
  • Electrons in each shell
The dude says that this might be his last update for the app, barring bugs and major additions. For further details, read up on the README included in the download. We once again thank Access_Denied for the good job - apps like these are always welcome.

Lock it down, boys, no one's getting through. If it comes to it, sometimes you just want to deny the use of your PSP to other people entirely. The reason might be any of the following: you're afraid they might mess with something with ill effect, or you're trying to *ahem* hide something in the PSP, or you just hate the guy who constantly borrows your PSP. Well, Propel (now goes by Access_Denied) brings his PSPassword Protect to v2 status, implementing a host of changes to lock your PSP down like Fort Knox.

And since one of the changes includes a Password editor, we can safely say that all those complaints about not being able to change the password to something only YOU know should go out the window.

The full changelog, with some warnings we decided to embolden and reddify to get the point across:
  • Added Support for Custom Password
    • Warning, there is no way to recover your lost password, don't forget it
  • Added a config file editor - Edit config on your PSP anytime
  • Added a password editor - Can be any 4 digit combination
  • Added option to remove custom firmware in recovery mode
  • Strengthened security by hiding the password in the hex bytes of an unknown file
This improved security package comes complete with a Readme file that includes all necessary instructions, so that our Comments section will not be resplendent with the woeful tales of people who have bricked their PSPs because they did not Read The You-Know-What Manual. As Propel/Access_Denied himself puts it,

**WARNING** I am not responsible for ANY damages to your PSP. This program writes to the flash and has the potential to render your PSP useless. Use at YOUR OWN RISK.

Enough said.

New Age IQ Test for PSP

Access_Denied from our forums is back again with yet another release set to rock your PSP... and your brain. His previous programs such as his Unit Converter and ProgramLua may have had a lot of uses and a nice background, but you can rest assured that this homebrew application from Access_Denied will feature the "lots of uses" part.

Access_Denied's New Age IQ Test for the PSP does exactly what it says, quizzing your knowledge with a total of 37 questions, and although it won't display your IQ at the end, it's always nice to see how well you can do in a general knowledge test isn't it?

If the first thing you look at is graphics then this isn't for you. Neither does it use some kind of really complex coding that would get Bill Gates excited, but it does have the raw functionality that'll keep you occupied for a while. Why not take the test and then give it to your friends to try and decipher who is the most intelligent!

As Access_Denied himself rightly said, "People are taking this test to test their knowledge. If they want to see beautiful artwork, they can go to a museum."

Both 1.0 and 1.5 Kxploited binary versions have been included in the download.

ProgramLua Main

Access_Denied and Appleseed629 (thanks for the tip) have unveiled a brand new Lua tutorial system that you can study on your PSP, meaning that you can learn to code in the popular PSP coding format with no experience necessary at any time in any place! ProgramLua has a whole host of Lua programming tutorials packed into a 6MB WinRaR archive just waiting to be sent to your PSP. It's all you need to get started and have your coding skills honed to perfection; who knows, your veins may be tinged with the blood of Dark_Alex, Fanjita, NJ, zx-81 and the rest of the more popular developers out there.

And it doesn't stop there, Access_Denied and Appleseed629 will continue to release upcoming add-ons and expansion packs for the program, enabling you to have a text editor and read downloaded tutorials from within the program. They will also upload new tutorials so that you can continue reading through series of tutorials so you're never short of reading material. ProgramLua has been made into 1.0 and 1.5 EBOOTS so you don't even have to have Lua Player installed on your PSP to run it.

No need to pierce your skin and look for the coder's blood, just give this program and go and start learnin'.

Unit Converter

Access_Denied from the forums is hard at work today as we can see from this latest release; Unit Converter v0.4 for PSPs using the 1.0 or 1.5 firmware. As of now, his program can convert weight, length, temperature, volume, area and the newly added data (Kilobytes and Megabytes).

Plenty of bugs have been fixed since his previous releases, and a few visual aspects have been tweaked. In the future we can hope to see even more improvements in the graphics department, support for more units, and possibly a new number input method. For now, be sure to download the release appropriate for your PSP.

Unit Converter 0.2

Today, Access_Denied from our forums has released an updated version of his Unit Conversion application for the PSP. This handy little tool was first released a couple of days ago, but since then has undergone a huge makeover. With some nice looking graphics from Twin891 and a whole host of bug fixes, Unit Converter v0.2 has come on in leaps and bounds just two days after the first release, but is in no way perfect. No longer do you get loads of errors when you try to convert something. I successfully converted from Fahrenheit to Celsius with no glitches!

Unit_converter v0.2 - Image 1 Unit_converter v0.2 - Image 2

However, you have to remember that this is still quite an early version, and I still ran into a few bugs when testing this today. For some reason the program still thinks that 2 centimeters is equal to 2 millimeters, 3cm to 3mm and so forth. Also, if you go below 0, the readout goes off the screen; and although anything above 1 works, you cannot get it to go back to exactly one. These are nitpicks, and the application still works pretty well on the whole. Expect weight support and more bug fixes for the next version in days to come! Fw 1.5 and 1.0 binary versions are included in the download.

Update: We reported earlier that Access_Denied's Unit Conversion application for the PSP is experiencing some problems with minor bugs. Well Access_Denied is on a mission to make his project one of the better apps around as he come up with a new version that has fixed 5-6 of those bugs. According to him, he also "have added weight support". FW 1.5 and 1.0 binary versions are included in the download below so why not give this one a go?
