Sony PlayStation Portable handheld - Image 1We've seen a lot of external controller mods for the PlayStation Portable in the past, but nothing quite as neat looking as this one. Acidmods member Blizzrad explained how the new mod made use of a single 25 pin connector mounted above the PSP power switch and how it was able to connect to an external DualShock controller. You can view more details and a video of this latest PSP mod in our full article.

Different colored skins available for Sony's PlayStation Portable - Image 1AcidMods site member F00 f00 isn't called the veritable god of PSP customization for nothing. His latest PSP mod puts together not one, but actually two mods into one handheld.

The rig consists of carefully adding additional LED points from the original, with the note key switching the indicator from mem to power to WiFi. A second mode changes the LED scheme to a light blue with a variation for a pulsing effect tied in with the headphone amp. More on this and the video after the jump!

EL Wire Mod - Image 1Modding your Sony PlayStation Portable can be hazardous to the health of your handheld, but the benefits often outweigh the risks, as we can see with tec_in_the_making's EL Wire PSP mod. It's simple, it's not too flashy, but it definitely looks awesome - and all it takes is a simple design element that's probably never been thought of being applied to a Sony PSP before.

Check out the details and the video at the full article. You won't be disappointed.

Modder edhel is announcing that he's working on a project involving the Sony PSP, and the Nintendo Wii console's classic controller attachment for its Wiimote. The mod involves hot-wiring the Wii controller to function as an external controller for the PSP, which edhel demonstrates through a short play-through of WipEout Pure. Here's edhel's uploaded video to give the readers a better idea of how this work in progress is looking for far:

edhel added this detail regarding this Wii classic controller mod:

At the moment it isn't finished completely as i have yet to wire up the d pad - but withe the current releases of joysens i dont think there is much point in doing so (although i may if i have time between other mods im doin). I am rubbish at the game in the vid and the turning in wipeout pure is really hard but i assure you that all the buttons shown ARE WORKING.

As the modder said, this is an early video, so expect to see this project get smoothed out in the days to come. Fellow modders who think they've got the technical skills to pull this off can try reading PvP's tutorial over at the AcidMods forums (through the via link) where this mod was originally announced.

If you're not satisfied with the wireless capabilities of your PSP, then you might be interested to know that some of the developers from AcidMods are working on a project called the Internal Bluetooth Mod for Sony's PSP handheld.

In a video uploaded by the developers, they take viewers through a quick presentation of the Bluetooth capable PSP in action. Using a pair of modified headphones and a special Bluetooth transmitter attached to the PSP, the AcidMods team was able to feature the streaming capabilities of their little project.

So far they've only been able to stream music using their customized Bluetooth transmitter. Who knows? Maybe someday they may be able to stream other media like videos or even other homebrew apps through this project.

For those of you who are interested at taking a look at the technical details of how they were able to piece together this particular set up, the team from the AcidMods forums have posted a step-by-step tutorial on how they were able to do it. You can check it out through the read link below.
