If you're a retro gamer, then you'll probably be interested to know that homebrew developer CrazyC has just rolled out a new update for DOSBox v0.71. This application should allows users to play old DOS games on your PSP. The developer tried to run SimCity 2000 and Tie Fighter on his handheld with this build. While the games did run, they did so at a very slow rate. Thus, some major optimization will be needed if you expect to run anything but the most basic of games. Since this is a patch for DOSbox v0.60, there isn't any documentation included. Here is CrazyC's post on the forums that should explain most questions on the program:
This patch, when applied to DOSbox 0.60 and linked with these library functions, arwin's p-sprint and SDL (with 8-bit surface patch), gets DOSbox running on the psp. Later versions use an array too large to fit in the PSP memory for indexing memory pages while this version has high level emulation of dpmi. I've tested SimCity 2000 and Tie Fighter and they run although very slowly, a lot of optimization will be need if this will be usable. Note that stat fails if the root of the memory stick is what is being checked therefore it cannot be mounted. Mounting ms0:/psp works fine though. Also there is currently no mouse or joystick support. So download the files and try it out. Be advised though that it won't be a simple process and some programming knowledge will be necessary for you to make it work. Download: DOSbox patch v0.71 Download: DOSbox configuration file |

Arwin is back in the saddle again! If you don't remember who he is, he is the guy responsible for the P-Sprint for the PSP which is a keyboard emulator for the PSP. This app has been very useful and has been utilized by darkshadow 88 in his app, the PSPSchedule. P-Sprint was also utilized by Danzel's Peldet app and by the pIRC created by Psilocybeing. But it seems that Arwin is way past that project and is doing something more challenging now.In fact, Arwin is now dabbling on something called Project 3D Text/ PSPGL. According to him, "I want to learn how to do 3D programming, I thought I would start with something that could be useful for other stuff later on, and is fun to do - build a low-poly text renderer...." So far, he was able to come up with a rough code -- a sample PSPGL targeting main.c which, according to him, was heavily borrowed from the ported NeHe sample lesson 6 (right thumbprint). Although, for now, some of the products of his talents are just works-in-progress, you could help him hone his craft and application with your constructive criticisms, observations, and suggestions which you can convey through your comments.
