PSPFramework version 1.1 - Image 1 A few days back, QJ.NET forums member oldrider released a team project called PSPFramework. Now, the PlayStation Portable homebrew development team (Robson Rufino, Kedny Cavalcanti, Thiago Palange, and Ney Estrabelli) has updated the application, bumping it up to version 1.1.

For those who missed the previous report, PSPFramework is a "framework for development games [on 2D] with oslib using OOP." It features a database system, sprites, a resource manager, and fonts, among others, and it's based on Brunni's OSLib. This version of the application sports some bug fixes and some additions. Here's a snippet from the release thread:

Bugfixes:
  • load images psp the crash because it was always pressing in VRAM, add param location for load images in VRAM or RAM (OSL_IN_RAM or OSL_IN_VRAM).
  • Optimized the class of splash
Add:

  • param location on PSPFImage, you load image using this:
    • image = new PSPFImage(264, 123,OSL_IN_RAM, OSL_PF_5551, "myimage.png");
  • Collision method on PSPFGraphics, You can use on AnimationFrame, AnimationSheet, Sprite, how to use:
    • sprite->collidesWith(otherSprite );
    • if Have collision this return true.

Anyway, check out the download below. Visit oldrider's thread over at the forums to discuss this PSPFramework release or visit their site by clicking the via link below.

PSPFramework 1.0 features an OOP framework to create 2D games based on OSlib - Image 1With the recent number of coding competitions, homebrew programmers have slowly been carving out a niche in the homebrew scene for Sony's PlayStation Portable. In particular, the Old School Library (OSlib) Sprites Lib has become the mainstay framework on which coders have been basing their 2D games on for the PSP.

The development team of Robson Rufino, Kedny Cavalcanti, Thiago Palange, and Ney Estrabelli have created a framework library based on the OSlib application originally created by Brunni

Called the PSPFramework 1.0, it features Object Oriented Programming (OOP) with its own set of sprites, animation sheets and frames, as well as a customizable database system and resource manager. It also includes a loader and a set of fonts for budding programmers to play round with.

Before you get coding though, make sure you have a good look at the documentation that comes with the executable installer for PSPFramework. Don't forget to install OSlib beforehand as well since it is based on the application after all. The download link is below, so feel free to check it out if you're up to making a name for yourself on the PSP homebrew development scene.

MasterBoy v2.02 - enhanced SGB emulation, SRAM bug corrected, and more - Image 1MasterBoy v2.02 - enhanced SGB emulation, SRAM bug corrected, and more - Image 2

Homebrew developer Brunni has just released a new build for the highly flexible emulator MasterBoy bringing it up to version 2.02. For the uninformed, this particular application is able to emulate Game Boy, Sega Master and Game Gear video games on the PlayStation Portable.

One of the many good features MasterBoy carries is that it allows users to fully recolor not only by selecting one scheme for the whole screen but every single in-game object. VGM and GYM files can also be listened to because of the bundled music player. The changes particular to MasterBoy v2.02 are the following:
  • EBOOT now has icon, wallpaper and sound (thanks to Ass-Itch from PlayerAdvance for his nice BG/ICON)
  • Corrected the bug of SRAM not saving properly for some people
  • Added the last save date next to the save state slot number
  • Enhanced SGB emulation (runs a lot faster)
  • Corrected the garbage showing in the border of the render.
  • Reworked the default palettes to be closer to the GBC ones.
  • Augmented the maximum number of files per folder to 1024.
  • Note: The bug that some people has, save states not working after saving/loading a few, is still not fixed (I could contact nobody who has this problem for debugging). In between, if you have this problem, use the RAM state and save manually before exiting (or save less often)
Brunni included a Readme.txt file as well as MasterBoy.pdf file that should provide you with all the information you need in installing and running this program.

We'd like to thank Matt T. for the tip!
