Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - QJ.net Review - Image 1Do we really need to re-visit the Final Fantasy VII universe? After that movie where everyone hopped around all over the place while three silver-haired bikers looked for their mum, we're not quite sure that we do. Now that Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is here, however, we'd have to say that this part of the Final Fantasy series needs a look back on - a very long, hard one. This is our review of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

Capcom and Sony plan to make a full-length CG movie based on Resident Evil - Image 1

Taking a page from Square Enix's successful release of "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" a couple of years back, Capcom and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced plans to release their own full-length CGI movie based on the hit Resident Evil (a.k.a. Biohazard in Japan) franchise.

The movie will be titled "Biohazard: Degeneration", and will be the first full-length CG animation movie feature based on the popular video game series of games and movies.

Many will recognize Resident Evil for establishing the survival horror game genre and its many successful titles across multiple platforms since it was first released in 1996. The latest iteration to the series, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, marks the continuation of the video game franchise and shows no sign of stopping any time soon.

Following a successful spin-off on the silver screen, the trilogy of films produced and directed by Paul Anderson was well received by movie and video game buffs everywhere, with each movie grossing over US$ 100 million at the international box office. With Sony's and Capcom's announcement of this newest offspring for the series, fans of Resident Evil will definitely be watching out for this latest cinematic experience.

No news on the characters or its plot in the complicated timeline of the Resident Evil series have been announced, but we're keeping our eyes open for any new developments from the two companies. Biohazard: Degeneration is currently in production and set to be released in 2008.

Here's another new mag scan about Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. The scan shows some in-game images of main hero Zack and Final Fantasy VII bad guy Sephiroth. Most of the images also feature one of the new characters in the game, Angeal Hewley. Anyway, check it out below.

One other thing that caught our attention was the mention of perennially rumored Final Fantasy character model and Japanese music artist Gackt (also known to some people as the only person made out of 100% CGI). He'll be the character model for Genesis, one of the characters in the game.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII will be released in August in Japan.

This week's PSP releases has two racing games out: one that has you drifting around through the streets, and another one that bumps it up a notch and has you streaming through the air. Whatever strikes your fancy, it'd always help if you had something to help you choose which game to get. That's what we're here for.

Now, here's the CGI intro sequence for the second game we mentioned above. Sierra's Modified Air Combat Heroes (M.A.C.H., for the acronymically-inclinded) looks stunning to say the least. I'm not pretty much of an "air-combat" sort of person, but this looks like a quite a ride, especially since it's got that Wipeout feel to it. It sort looks next-gen quality to me too, but that's just me. Check it out for yourself:

Ghost Rider PSP - Image 1If you're a fan of the Marvel Comic turned film Ghost Rider, then this should press all the right buttons. Marvel's comics has an underlying element to them: death, destruction, and of course bad guys; and Ghost Rider has these in abundance. Riding around on what appears to be the devil's motorcycle as a devilish being and slashing through your enemies with your firepower (literally) cannot be beaten - especially when all of these can be achieved on a portable console.

The Ghost Rider trailer shows off the game's impressive fighting and riding modes, some heavy metal music and some amazing graphics - including an array of brightly-colored fighting moves in both CGI and real time gameplay. Riding the motorcycle might remind some of you of the classic PSX game Road Rash, with a slightly more hellish theme. You get to use a fiery chainsaw to know your opponents off their bikes, and if you have played Road Rash then you'll know that it's quite fun.

Caution: This trailer contains loud music, even louder sound effects, and an element of hellish demon-slashing
