Of course, what good is having the latest in custom firmwares when you don't have equally good apps to max its performance? In light of the phenomena that rocked (and is apparently still rocking) our site (hint: 3.10 OE-A), Dabomstew has reported that he has released CFW SE/OE Easy Version Changer V6 for use among the brew fans. For the neophytes asking, this app allows you to change your Custom firmware SE/OE system settings without hexediting or manual flashing. The app allows for use of any character - as compared to X-Flash's 1.00-9.99 limit. As for the changelog:

It's a rather long name but we're telling you, you shouldn't forget about this one as it is highly important. To those who haven't heard about this app yet, it actually allows for changing the version displayed in Custom Firmware SE/OE system settings without hex editing or manual flashing. And unlike the familiar application X-flash, this supports characters other than just 1.00-9.99. Add to this a little imagination and some other brilliant applications and you will see your PSP customized in ways you haven't even dreamt of. And just like other homebrew apps, please be sure to browse through the accompanying readme file. Dabomstew mentioned that this one is tested and working fine for his own 3.03 OE-A and 3.02 OE-B units, but it never hurts to be always safe with the things you try on your PSPs. Dabomstew's come out with a new version of the 3.0X OE Easy Version Changer, and it now supports 3.03 OE-B custom firmware. For those who haven't heard of it, Dabomstew's Easy Version Changer lets you change what gets displayed on the System Software portion of your System Information page. While it doesn't actually have any functions other than this, combining it with other apps lets you customize your PSP in different ways. For instance, QJ poster Nights' PSP looks like the above now (Hi Nights!). 3.0X OE Easy Version Changer only allows for a maximum of nine characters in the name you're planning on changing, so pick something short and sweet. Other than that, just remember to check the readme, as well as our forums, if you want to know more about installing and using this application. While you're at it, don't forget to thank Dabomstew as well. Enjoy! Download: [3.0X OE Easy Version Changer v4] Discuss: [Forum Release Thread] |

We have here now Dabomstew's Beta 3.0X OE Easy Version Changer v3.0, a day after this application's first release. Now, there have been a couple of changes already since then (and we're not surprised in the slightest bit since these devs seem to be working overtime lately). What's new here since the first release? This one now supports 3.02 OE-A and OE-B. Also, it now reads your current version from systemctrl.prx as the default rather than always starting with 3.03 OE-A. Plus, there's now a reset to default function, wherein it automatically changes version in the editor to your FW's default. This version also now has an added 3.03 OE-A support. Apart from that, the 3.03 OE-A character limit is still 10, while others are still at nine. Anyhow, make sure to check out the Read me for the usage instructions. That's the safest way to go. Oh, and you can also check out the forums for updates and whatnots. Dabomstew assures that he will be releasing updates if there are problems discovered. So, just keep it posted here. Coders have been coming up with all these homebrew "changer" apps lately which allow you to, well, change various things in your PSP. We have gracz54's PSP Mac Address Changer, and there's also Aserto's PSX GameID Changer. And now, to add to that ever-changing list of changer apps, here's another one from Dabomstew which will allow you to change the version displayed in 3.03 OE-A system settings without hexediting or manual flashing. Usage Instructions:
I was able to update 3.02 OE-B to 3.03 OE-A with a custom version on 3.02 OE-B, but im not sure about the updaters to go to a new release on the same kernel eg 3.02 OE-A to 3.02 OE-B. I guess we'll see =P If it doesn't work, you can easily change your version back to default. He also said that this worked fine on his 3.03 OE-A-donning PSP, but it's not guaranteed that it'll work 100% every time. If you encounter any problems with this app, please drop him a line in our forums so that he can update it but he says not to expect any more functionalities to be added. However, if Dark_AleX will come up with more versions of his custom firmware, he may bump up this app to include support for DAX's updates.
