Gamers are in for a lot of fist-pumping when Electronic Arts' Army of Two: The 40th Day hits retail early next year. EA Montreal has just announced the North American and European release dates for the multiplatform co-op shooter.

After the past couple of rumor-filled weeks, we have surprisingly little in the way of rumor mill handouts this past week. I didn't hear anything about PSP-4000s or PSP2s during the past week. Now I'm actually starting to miss David Perry. (no, not really). What we did get though are a lot of new games, both confirmed and unrevealed. We also get a weird little PSP tie-in from Sony and car manufacturer Citroen, another denial of the PSP Phone, and an admission from Sony UK that maybe, just maybe, UMD wasn't such a hot idea after all.

Electronic Arts' promise last week to announce an EA Montreal game today is made good with this most recent press release. They've formally confirmed Army of Two: The 40th Day. Yeap, Karl B., you were right on the money! What's cool is that, while the game is confirmed to return to its home consoles (PS3, 360), it's also getting a PSP spin-off! That's a nice change from hearing all these other console games getting DS spin-offs. *coughPrinceOfPersiacough*

What's next for EA Montreal? Well, there's Need for Speed Nitro for the Nintendo's Wii and DS consoles, but apparently that's not the only project the studio is working on. Electronic Arts has revealed in a press release that they will be publicly announcing a new game from EA Montreal next Thursday, March 12.

The events unfolding within the offices of the Need for Speed franchise are certainly faster with more exciting sharp turns and a fuller pack of nitrous boost than any map in their games. Three new titles have been announced, and there's one more still kept under wraps. Details in the full article.
