We recently got an email from edog046, where he sent us a link to a tutorial he wrote. Checking out the link, we thought it was kind of him to share this with us, especially if you're not used to putting stuff into your PSP or changing the normal settings.

So, for those who'd like to switch fonts on their PSPs, or simply want to have a reference point for the general idea of installing something on it, you might want to bookmark this for future reference. Now, let's see those instructions, shall we?

1) Download his Fonthack Noob Pack (see link below).

2) Extract to your PSP's memory stick.

3) The root of your memory stick should look like the picture below. The encircled files are the ones you just downloaded.

Your memory stick's root should look like this, with the files you downloaded being the encircled ones here.

4) Your psp/photo folder should look like the picture below, with the encircled folder being the important thing to note.

Your PSP/Photo folder should look like this. Note the encircled folder.

5) Unplug your PSP and go to the photo section, and hit "x" on the fonthack folder. DO NOT HIT "START" OR RUN AS A SLIDE SHOW.

6) A black screen with writing should come up, hit "o" and count to ten, then hit "home."

You can check out the rest of the tutorial after the jump.

tifffontFreePlay released TIFF Font Hack Installer v0.1 for PSP firmware 2.7-2.80 (2.0, 2.01, 2.5, and 2.6). Originally created by FreePlay, TeamOverload, and Skylark, the font hack enables PSP users to change the fonts on the PSP's home XMB screen.

Other things you can play around with: italic, bold, shadow, and other style options for fonts.

FreePlay says its one drawback is that you have to manually edit and fix your registry using some other tools they made. But they are working on ironing out this kink.

To install:
Copy the program to PSPPHOTO on your Memory Stick.

To run the program:
Highlight the 'fonthack' folder from your PSP's Photo menu, then press Start.

To modify your registry:
  1. Use the parsedreg/fixupdreg package (included in the download file). Extract the ZIP file to your computer.
  2. Run the Font Hack Installer, and press Cross to copy your registry to your Memory Stick.
  3. Copy the system.dreg and system.ireg files from your Memory Stick to the parsedreg/fixupdreg folder.
  4. Open system.dreg (NOT system.ireg) in a hex editor. Replace every instance of "flash0:/font" with "ms0:/fontmod". Save the file.
  5. Double-click fixupdreg3.exe . It should pop up a window that closes automatically. Your registry should now be fixed, assuming everything went well.
  6. Copy system.dreg and system.ireg back from the parsedreg/fixupdreg folder to where you found them on your Memory Stick.
  7. Run the Font Hack Installer again, and press Circle to install your modified registry.
You'll need to have a custom font copied to the fontmod folder on your Memory Stick to use custom fonts. To make your own custom fonts, use the FHacker utility (included in the download file.)

FreePlay also says this app doesn't touch flash0 (only flash1)so there's absolutely no chance of bricking your PSP.

Fontpack!

76 Amazing Fonts! That's what Birdman declares in version 7 of his font pack.

For those of you who are kind of bored with your usual fonts for the PSP, you can install Birdman's Font Pack v7 to change and tweak your font preferences as you please. He's adapted files from Freeplay, Skylark and Team Overload and made them easier to install on 1.5-2.6 firmwares. You have to be careful though, as he gives prospective users some warnings beforehand.

First, as mentioned earlier, the pack only works for 1.5, 2.0, 2.01, 2.5 and 2.6 firmwares, so people hoping to spruce up 2.7 and 2.8 will have to wait a while for something to be ready. Second, and more importantly, installing this resets all your previous settings. Make sure you know what you're doing beforehand, and be sure to read the readme file after the jump or inside the zipfile we've uploaded. Enjoy, and good luck!

supermanIf you want to get in to the Superman Returns craze, then it might just be high time for your PSP to get a quick theme change. You  don't need a phone booth for this one; you just have to download the Superman theme created by Sooperman with help from the guys of ThemePSP and creators of the Fontmod. The theme was created just in time for the much anticipated release of the new Superman movie starring Brandon Routh.

With Superman theme in the background, the classic comic book font and the huge S logo on the screen, you'll be all set to go up, up and away...
