GameStop deal of the week - Image 1What's the Big Deal with GameStop's deals this week? It's the Simpsons Game which will be available by the end of the month. The price cut for the Sony PlayStation 3's 80 GB console is also spotlighted this week, plus a couple of discounted games for the Xbox 360, the PS3, and the PC.

This week's promo is a free Homerball when you reserve the Simpsons Game (PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP, DS). The Homerball is a little toy doll of Homer. If you recall, getting as fat and round as a watermelon is one of Homer's powers in the game. Also this week is MotorStorm, bundled with the 80 GB console.

Discounts this week are WarTech: Senko No Ronde (US$ 9.99), Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom (US$ 19.99) and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes (US$ 49.99). The 20% trade-in credit for reserving Super Mario Galaxy is still in effect, and probably will be until the game is finally released next month on November 12.

Those who can't wait to pick up a copy of Electronic Arts' The Simpsons Game (Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, PS3, PSP, DS) will be happy to know that a fact sheet for the game has just been released. It details the different features of the title as well as some of the things you wouldn't expect to encounter.

In addition to that, the game is said to offer a whole new story made by the TV shows' writers. Here's the full fact list of the game straight from the EA press' office:
  • Play Your Favorite Characters - Battle enemies and save Springfield while playing as your favorite dysfunctional TV family: Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge and even Maggie Simpson.
  • The Real Simpsons - With the actual voice actors from the TV show and movie reprising their roles; characters from The Simpsons Game sound exactly as they should.

Pre-order The Simpsons Game and get a homerball and poster - Image 1Those who decide to pre-order Electronic Arts' The Simpsons Game (DS, PS3, PSP, Wii, Xbox 360) are in for a treat. They'll be receiving some swag including one of the four limited edition posters and if you're lucky, a Homerball figure.

The four posters have the different designs showing off one of the different parodies present in the game. Each one will also have a cheat code on the back which players can use to unlock some of the content in the game. The press release gave word that it will be available from GameStop, Wal-Mart, Target, and Best Buy.

The Homerball, which will be available at "participating retailers while supplies last" is based on Homer's (duh!) special power in the game. For those who haven't seen this move in action, he essentially turns into a giant ball which gives the him ability to break through walls and steamroll any enemies.

Pre-orders will be available by September 19, so you might want to mark that on your calendar. If you want to get a Homerball. You might also want to place a few calls to your local game stores to see which ones carry the limited edition figurine.

Hey! Look at Me! v1.0 - eyes that move and blink - Image 1Hey! Look at Me! v1.0 - eyes that move and blink - Image 2

QJ.NET got a tip the other day from reader Unicorn about a homebrew game created by Neo_Ace. It was originally coded in Spanish and is known as Hey!! Mirame!! v1.0. Since it was publicly released though, it has been renamed to Hey! Look at Me! v1.0 to accommodate English-speaking PlayStation Portable owners.

Anyway, Neo_Ace mentioned that the idea behind this particular creation was borrowed from D3Publisher's retail game Work Time Fun. Basically, Hey! Look at Me! features a face wherein we can place different kinds of eyes. Then we can control these eyes (make them wink and look left and right) by pressing the proper buttons.

Some of the different eyes that can be found in this version include that of Homer Simpson's, a kitten's, and a Chinese woman's among others. Neo_Ace also gave word that more features will be implemented in future versions.

First off, if you hate spoilers, you have no business reading the succeeding paragraphs. Just back away from this one, read another QJ article and be completely happy playing this nice title. Skipping this one won't ruin your life, we assure you.

Still reading? Don't say we didn't warn you. If you haven't bought The Simpsons yet but are planning to, you'll either be real happy or real pissed with what you'll find out. This is your last chance to back off.

Duffestein - Image 1

Destructoid reports that EA gave them a spoiler of sorts regarding this title. It turns out that there's a Wolfenstein level hidden in the game which can be unlocked. For the uninitiated, Castle Wolfenstein was one of the fathers of FPS and is certainly an icon of modern gaming.

Destructoid explains "in the Medal of Homer stage, Bart and Homie are hired to steal white flags from a town trying to surrender so that they can get firebombed. However, if you put your chores aside and transform into Bartman and fly across the channel you can snake around an abandoned warehouse and find the hidden area. Smash a few boxes out of your way and you'll find a door to Duffenstein, a replica of the great old-school FPS Castle Wolfenstein."

So there you have it. If you feel like revisiting the old school, The Simpsons will give you a chance to get some nostalgic treats. Otherwise, just enjoy the game and the nice movie, too. The Simpsons is available on Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and Sony PSP owners everywhere.

The Simpsons Game - Image 1The last time we heard about the highly-anticipated multiplatform title of EA's The Simpsons, we found out that most of the levels are going to be parodies of contemporary video game classics (i.e. God of Wharf, Shadow of the Colossal Donut, Medal of Homer).

Now, we've uncovered some new info about the game concerning the final boss - and no, it's not the usual ones we'd expect, like Mr. Burns or Sideshow Bob. Rather, it's the boss that would pretty much leave the fourth wall broken into tiny bite-sized pieces, The Simpsons">Matt Groening himself.

Yep, it's the creator of The Simpsons who'll be left standing between you and the Game Cleared screen after all is said and done - which makes for a very interesting final boss fight indeed. If you're curious as to just what the mind behind Springfield's inhabitants think about this development, this is what he has to say:

Well the video game is mainly written by great writers, Matt Selman and Matt Warburton - I mean, you can just tell. Great, right? They did a send-up of video games. It's a video game about video games; and I'm in the video game. I'm a boss that you have to fight at the end of the game. It was really fun recording a million ways of dying, going 'UGGH, ARGGH, EUURGH!'

Certainly very creative updates indeed. We can only wonder what else would be revealed during the weeks to come. Updates as we get them!

The Simpsons Game - Image 1New details abound the highly-anticipated (and multi-platform) game about Springfield's craziest (and the most well-loved) family, The Simpsons, from an article of this week's PSM3 Magazine. We get you the rib-tickling and side-splitting facts about the title that's bound to put a smile on your face, and a can of Duff in your hand.

While we've seen videos of a few levels, as well as some of the gameplay features, we haven't really been privy to just what these levels are. Well, now here are a few level titles that may shed some light to the game's content. Can you spot the reference? We're sure you could:
  • Bartman Begins
  • Medal of Homer
  • God of Wharf
  • Shadow of the Colossal Donut
And if that's not revealing enough, here's some more details, specifically about the Shadow of the Colossus-inspired level: as Homer, you'll be scaling the body of a giant beast while the rest of Springfield looks on. Whether that beast is the donut-holding billboard boy, or an actual donut monster - or if you're going to have to take bites out of specific weak points - we don't know as of yet, but one thing's for sure, it's definitely going to be awesome. Not to mention hilarious.

More updates about EA's The Simpsons game as we get them.
