Simon Remix v0.4 - Image 1

According to the rules of the on-going PSP-Hack Homebrew Competition, the coder can post his creation online to receive feedback from the community and improve the entry repeatedly until April 29. Well, developer J@ricanese just released an improve version of Simon v0.1.

Among other things, J@ricanese thought that it would be wise to rename the game all together. The entry will now be known as Simon Remix and this release is for version 0.4. The download below includes EBOOTs both for 1.50 and 1.00. Also, a lot of changes have also been implemented. The coder discussed,
  • Many people said that in rooms with bright light or outside, the buttons were hard to see. They couldn’t tell which Simon was lighting up. This is now fixed with the letter of the color displaying on the button.
  • Finally got screen shot implementation to work. They will be saved in the PSP/PHOTO folder.
  • On a programming note, redefined the delayThread function to allow pausing / screenshots to work in a game.
  • Another programming note, freed memory from splash screen which allows me to use it for better features later on.
  • Reduced some lags brought about in the game.
  • Provided the kxploit version eboots.
  • Made images slightly smaller for a faster download.
  • Made it so that when it is your turn to go, Simon stays lite for as long as you hold down the corresponding button and returns to normal when you release it. Now you can see how many times you press the button in a row.
  • Also fixed a bug where the last color that the user enters doesn’t show.
  • Lastly, when the last color you enter is yellow, the menu won’t go down to the quit button.
This homebrew basically is memory game styled after Simon Says. On your game display, one of the four colors will light up and you have to punch in the same sequence in order to advance. After you've tried the game, maybe you can all help out by providing suggestions through the comments section below.

Simon v0.1, by J@ricanese - Image 1 Simon v0.1, by J@ricanese - Image 1

With this year's PSP-Hacks Homebrew Competition well under way, we pick up news of one of the contest's contenders, created by coder J@ricanese - you may remember him from the NPHAPP application. This new entry is a homebrew game titled Simon v0.1, and as its name implies, it's a memory game styled after "Simon says." Its objective is simple: Simon will light up one of four colors on your game display, and you have to punch in the same colored sequence to advance to the next round. This current version carries seven rounds of increasing difficulty. As for the controls:
  • Up = Green
  • Right = Red
  • Down = Yellow
  • Left = Blue
  • Start = Advance to the next round
J@ricanese further notes that these features may be added by the next update:
  • Background music - will be a few songs included, or ability to randomly play from Music folder
  • Theme Support: I am already making different themes for the game including a Mets (New York Baseball Team) theme
  • Access to music options and theme options available in a new options menu.
The file is available for download below - just remember to have your copy of PSPBrew ready. The author would also very much like to hear feedback from the guys by way of this game's original release thread (see source link below). With that said, we hope you enjoy the download, and enjoy this game.

NPHAPP - Image 1J@ricanese has just informed us that he's rolled out Beta Release 1.5 for his homebrew app NPHAPP which allows you to preview gameboots, music, video, pictures, etc. on your PC before you transfer them to your PSPs.

J@ricanese says that he was originally planning to wait a bit more before his next release but there was bug that needed to be fixed. But good old efficient coder that he is, he's decided to throw in a few more additional features to the app.

Changelog
:
  • Fixed the PMF decoder install.
  • Forgot to mention that the app has shortcuts. These can be seen through the menu.
  • Also forgot to mention that you can dynamically rename a file within the program.
  • Fixed loading issues with the shortcuts and menu links.
  • Added more menu items
  • Added type (file type) column in the main table.
  • A more in depth readme.
Included in his to do list is to add the ability to preview font and themes too. If you encounter any glitches or bugs, please inform us via the comments so that J@ricanese can work on fixing them. Oooor if you wanna give kudos to the man, we're sure J@ricanese would like that too. More info can be found in the (guess where?) all-important readme. So please do check it out before tinkering with this app.

PSP logo - Image 1For the guys who, like this author, have a nasty habit of cramming in files into their portable without checking what's in them, we have something for you. Homebrew developer J@ricanese has just sent in his Next Psp Hacks Application (NPHAPP) brew for your usage.

This is a PC-based previewer, and allows you to preview Gameboots, video, music, and pictures before you transfer them to your PSP - we can't help but imagine it as some form of housekeeping.

The app carries its own custom web browser, as well as a tutorial database to help familiarize the newer brew aficionados among us. People may want to try using FullScreen Browser App when this app gets its PSP port in the near future.

Given this is Public Release Beta 1, expect more updates to follow, which may include file conversion of ISO to CSO, CSO to ISO, as well as video conversion to mp4. As always, we strongly advise users to check out the bundle's README for the full details on how to run the app. Kudos to J@ricanese, who tells us this is his first app. Welcome to the community.
