It's the week after E3 2009 and we received more updates on the stuff that were announced during the yearly gaming expo. First up is the new PSP Go, which generated a bit of controversy over Sony's decision to slap a US$ 250 price tag on it. We also heard more about the games presented during E3. A new firmware update that "improves system stability" also went live this week, just ahead of another custom firmware release from the PSP homebrew community. Man, Sony took their sweet time at their presentation, didn't they? Two full hours! However. I am not complaining. How could I? Sony definitely did their homework for this year, as compared to the last. Of course am sure many were also left wanting, but hey. You can't please everybody. And although they did get a major bulk of their announcements preemptively leaked, they still did have that shocker that got the nods of most of the attendees, if not all. No, no, no. Don't be confused by the "QuickPeek" in the title. This has got nothing to do with the weekly QuickPeeks we offer you guys. This one's the E3 2009 edition. As in, this is a quick look-back at the things that happened, things that were said, things that would have been better off had it actually occurred -- basically a trip back down memory lane -- on the big 3's E3 2008 experience.

Let's take a look at what the past year had for Sony.

Whether or not you find some of the PSP-3000's "features" bothersome, the fact remains: it's surely making waves in Japan. During its first four days alone, it's already sold some 140,000 units! But how far will these high sales numbers go? Sony Japan expects that they may have to re-calibrate their initial forecasts. From an initial sales target of 15 million units, Sony is now expecting to sell some 16 million units by the end of the fiscal year.

The results are in - the PlayStation brand continues to shine, racking up US$4.03 billion in revenue from January to September of this year according to the NPD Group. Jack Tretton, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, responds to the brand's success and expects more growth over the holidays.

The August hardware sales numbers are out for August, and Sony's looking pretty happy with it -- albeit with a few corrections on the statistics. But what they're even more happy about is the lineup that they have for customers this coming holiday.

Do you ever wonder which among the consoles are getting the most attention from the developers, meaning how many developers are actually working on a particular platform? Apparently, Game Developer Magazine wondered precisely about this, and so has published a survey report on the state of the game development. Their findings can be found after the jump.
