Homebrew developer Cpasjuste dropped by QJ.NET PSP Development Forum and announced that he was able to make MAME4ALL compatible with the new PSP Slim and Lite. For the uninitiated, MAME stands for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. The build ported by Cpasjuste is TTYman's latest take on the project. Aside from the upgrade compatibility features, MAME GP2X v4.7 PSP for PSP Slim works exactly the same as MAME4ALL v4.7. With that said, here are some of the worth mentioning features of the said version:

When talking about Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator, or MAME, we think retro coin-op video games. Well, we're all going to get more arcade goodness - minus the quarters - in TTYman's new PSP MAME4ALL release. The PSP homebrew developer has released version 4.7r2 Hires, which features a couple of fixes from version 4.7 and then some. PSP MAME4ALL by TTYman is actually based on the GP2X releases by Franxis and supports PSP Hires (480x272), overclocking (133 to 333MHz), among other things. Here's the full list of features from TTYman's blog post:
Anyway, check out the emulator by downloading it below. Be sure to go over the readme files included in the zipped file for more information about PSP MAME4ALL. Enjoy! Download: PSP MAME4ALL v4.7r2 Hires |

If you're a fan of arcade games and willing to put in a little time compiling a program to run it, then MAME4ALL is right up your alley. Franxis has released the source code for versions 4.6 and 4.7. These optimized versions of MAME is based on the gpx2 port and offers better compatibility (more games supported) than previous versions. If you're new to the whole emulation scene, MAME stands for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. Designed to emulate the hardware of arcade games, it was first publicly released on February 5, 1997 by Nicola Salmoria and the rest of the MAME team with an open-source license. Installation isn't very complicated, but you will need GCC 4.0.2: DevKitGP2X rc2 to compile the code or a slightly modified version of GCC 4.1.0 (DevKitARM r18) linked with GCC 4.0.2 (DevKitGP2X rc2). Before doing anything go over the Read Me document included in the compressed file to avoid potentially damaging your PSPs. Thanks to Francisco Vergara for the tip! Fans have been clamoring for it for years, and finally we are all one step closer to CPS3 emulation. After about two months of hard work, the encryption in the Capcom Play System 3 has finally been broken down by a coder who goes by the name of Andreas. This new development doesn't actually guarantee CPS3 emulation just yet, as MAME developer David "Haze" Haywood points out. The decryption's already done but the emulation side of the equation still has a ways to go. Nevertheless, this is without a doubt one of the many memorable emulation milestones in recent years. If you're wondering what CPS3's decryption will bring to the emulation world, here's a list of titles that run on CPS3. It's pretty short, but the games on it are quite good, cementing the CPS3's rep as an extremely powerful 2D system with smooth, fluid animation.

Going into detail, version 2.0.6 contains backend command line tools which allow compatibility with version 2.0.6 of both MAME and NJ's emulators. Given that NJ's own apps have undergone major source code changes, this version of MacX_romcnv should work on Intels, although that's still unverified. In case it doesn't work on Intels, then there's still a way to manually compile the converters on a Mac using NJ's raw source. According to b8a, this is how you do it:

Alright, everyone! Listen up! This here is a one-time, big-time drop, so you better be quick on your feet to catch them all! We've got for you NJ's big bash, the latest version (it's now at 2.0.6) of his *takes a deep breath* CPS1PSP/CPS2PSP/MVSPSP/NCDZPSP.We told ya it's gonna be a lot. Now, there are a lot of stuff to know about these sweet peas. Google did a swell job of translating NJ's notes, and for this, we'd all like to bid you good luck. Check out what we mean: Modification

The past couple of months have indeed been crazy for the homebrew scene, what with all the exciting stuff that's been coming our way. While we absolutely don't mind being bombarded with PSX emulations, getting updates on other emulators ain't so bad as well. Especially if it's from someone whom we all thought has already dropped the project to tinker with some other bigger thing. That someone we're referring to here is none other than the beloved NJ, and that project would be the CPS2PSP. Yeah, for a while back there, we sure thought he's done with it. But apparently, and fortunately so, he isn't. In fact, he's just released his CPS2PSP v1.8.4, and you can get it right here. Actually, there are two files for you to feast on: there's the regular zip file, and then there's the Ad Hoc zip file. Now, Google translate has shown some rather interesting stuff from the translated page. Here's an excerpt: About one month PSP had not touched, but the experiment which is transplanted to Windows/Linux privately with SDL correction of 1.66 bugs which with the process which does are discovered and, taking in the result of drawing speed improvement experiment of the line scroll which has become vague, you adjusted lastly. As for CPS2PSP, because the analysis of CPS2 is advanced with MAME, also cryptographic cancellation algorithm at 0.111u5 point in time is taken in. Furthermore, because the intention which reopens the development with PSP it is not, please acknowledge beforehand.
