News about the movie adaptation of the successful video game franchise Tekken from Namco Bandai are not entirely new. However, this next one is the most concrete so far with film website ComingSoon hosting the first teaser poster for the film. Aside from that, ComingSoon was also able to get hold of some details regarding its development. Contrary to initial reports, ComingSoon stated that the Tekken movie isn't going to be directed by Anaconda's Dwight Little but by Charles Stone III - mostly known for movies Drumline, True, Mr. 3000, and Paid in Full. We checked around the Internet and we found out as well that Little will be the director while Stone III is going to be part of the writing team. Well, the point is the two are very much involved in the making of the Tekken movie. Speaking of development, it was mentioned that Sony Pictures' Screen Gems will be the one distributing the film. Moving on to the film itself, it is said to center on two childhood friends who entered the worldwide martial arts tournament where they will discover the dark secrets of the Tekken Corporation. In case you are wondering, the the quotation that can be found at the top of the poster reads: "After the Great Terror Wars, governments fell... Seven corporations rose from the ashes to rule all men... Together they were known as The Iron Fist... The mightiest of which was... Tekken." |

When Karl B. mentioned that Legend of the Dragon (for the PSP, Wii, and PS2) would have "magical armbands and kung-fu monkeys," he wasn't kidding. In fact, not only would there be Jet Li-ified chimps, but also oxen, tigers, and the rest of the cast in the Chinese zodiacs. The game is, after all, based on the BKN animated series of the same name.
To see all of those zodiacs doing martial arts (complete with the whole spell-casting gameplay too), here's the second trailer for Legend of the Dragon. Now we get to see how all of its unique features are played out. Check out all those lighting effects every time they transform. Pretty, huh? Where else can you play Sudoku with a martial arts twist? The best part is, it's going to the handhelds - PSP and DS. Zendoku promises some pretty interesting (albeit mind bending) gameplay.
Zendoku from Zoonami and Eidos looks fun and will definitely give players' gray matters working overtime. The minigames and the puzzles themselves look challenging. The characters are varied from the samurai Musashi, the Kendo master Sakura, the sumo wrestler Yatta, fencer Lorraine, the ninja Kingkage and the others. The trailers also show the training mode with the master. The classic Sudoku game is also in attendance, along with the game's grid game of symbols instead. There hasn't been any official announcements as to Zendoku's release, but it was said to expect it this year. Might as well check out the screens and trailers while you're waiting. Enjoy!

The battle between good and evil has been fought countless times, by countless representatives, on countless battlefields. This year, the battle's taking place against the prosaic backdrop of China's sacred temples. The combatants? A young warrior stands ready at the side of good, while an evil magician musters his forces to achieve dominion over the world. OK, enough with the flowery prose. We managed to score an interview with The Game Factory, the team behind Legend of the Dragon, the upcoming fighting game for the Sony PSP and Nintendo Wii. Legend of the Dragon is based on the BKN animated series of the same name and features lightning-fast martial arts action, beautiful graphics, and innovative RPG-style mechanics. Oh, and magic armbands and kung-fu monkeys, too. Full interview, right after the jump! Click on the "Full Article" link below. |

Tag this as off-topic. This is not news. This is however, something that may be a bit entertaining if you're a Tekken fan. Consider this the byproduct of beer, too much Tekken: Dark Resurrection for the PSP, and a VHS/betamax marathon with buddies.
In this post, this blogger will point out a few observations regarding some Tekken fighters. Particularly, with which real-life celebrity they might've been based on. Let's start with the obvious ones.
Yeah, most Tekken characters are inspired by pop-culture martial arts heroes and anime cliches. With characters like Law and Lei, the reference is pretty obvious, but with some other characters it isn't quite that immediate. For example, anyone remember Cynthia Rothrock? More on Cynthia, Arnie, B-Movie villains, and Connan O'Brien after the Jump! |

A Tekken: Dark Resurrection advert gets banned in Australia for allegedly "sexualizing" some of the more underage-looking female Tekken fighters. While reports aren't clear which particular Tekken characters were "sexualized," Lili and Xiaoyu come to mind. You see, the commercial tried to spoof Australian late-night adult commercials, it opens with a female voice-over asking guys if they (the average lonely male late-night-TV viewer) want one-on-one girl action and if so girls are waiting for them. Then the tone shifts to something a bit more aggressive than seductive, and then it shows shots of martial arts from the Tekken ladies and the voice over says that the girls are waiting to kick the viewers' butts. Nice spoof, nice twist. Bad part? The ad probably showed shots of Xiaoyu or Lili in it. Here's the complaint as reported by The Australian newspaper: The girl looks under the age of consent... That she is a computer-generated image is, I believe, irrelevant to the issue that an image of a child is being sexualized. So what's the advertising company's response to the complaint? Well, according to them, it is in their understanding that all of the characters within the game are intended to be adults, and that there was certainly no intention to sexualize a child within the advertising. Despite the company's response, the complaint holds, and the advert gets banned. If you're thinking that the Board is overreacting, they do have a good reason to do what they did. Lili is after all, a rich sixteen-year-old kid with that falls under the "elegant-anime-princess-cliche," not a DOAX2 beach-babe-ninja-assassin-bodyguard-whatever. The advert company should've just picked up where that roaaaarrrrr ad left off. I once thought that I had a good concept in my head for an awesome Tekken advert, but it involved Paul Phoenix and Chuck Norris, so I just dropped it. |

Supergirl and Black Canary joins the Justice League as unlockable characters, no, heroes, in Justice League Heroes. You'll get to unlock the two PSP-exclusive super babes as you progress through the game, giving you another reason to give justice to the Justice League heroes by kicking ass on your handhelds.
Supergirl (aka the Last Lass of Krypton, hehe.) will have the following powers that you can use:Flying Strike: Supergirl damages and crushes her enemies as she flies and zips through them. Heat Vision: She can incinerate everything that falls in her line of vision via a searing beam of heat that erupts out of her eyes. You might wanna think twice before trying to catch this girl's eye. Super Breath: No, not with super bad breath, but with a giant freezing breath, Supergirl can literally make guys stop in their tracks, all frozen and rigid. Of course she can do this to her girl enemies too. Super Punch: A damaging blow that gets even stronger as Supergirl winds up. Black Canary also has quite strong powers you can use if you decide to take on her role in the game. These are the powers you can access when you play as this tough chick:
Sonic Scream: Black Canary can scream a cone of disrupting sonic energy, resulting to stunned and damaged foes.
Bird of Prey: A powerful series of martial arts moves.
Talon Strike: A deadly combination of kicks that causes major damage to enemies.
The Raptor: A flying, spinning kick that tornadoes through a pack of enemies, damaging those in her path. Yes, it's time that the girls get the spotlight on this game, and to give you a taste before you get the game on November 10, here are two screenshots of the two super babes in action (and no guys, not THAT kind of action): |

PSPKOR has released a new version of his homebrew beat 'em up title coded in Lua, Bruce Lua to v0.2 today. Bruce lua is a homebrew clone of the retro game released for the Zx Spectrum and Commodore 64 consoles back in the 80's. It features side-scrolling gameplay and an enemy AI. The first release of this game, which features martial arts legend Bruce Lee and Street Fighter front-man Ryu, went down well with QJ readers a few weeks ago, and hopefully this release that packs more features and a decent enemy AI should be the same. Here's the changelog:

You've just checked out the latest decrypter for your PSP. And everyone is still waiting for the next DevHook. What do you do in the meantime? How do you kill time? Image Entertainment just released three UMD movies for this week. Maybe it would be good to give them a look. The release targets PSP fans who are into different extreme sports as well. On top of the list is The Best of Super Speeders. Watch modified luxury racing cars such as Lamborghinis and Ferraris slug it out in the cities of Las Vegas, New York and Los Angeles. This movie takes street racing into a whole new level as it features head-to-head battles and even a rare top speed run to 200mph on a public highway in the middle of the day. Teddybear Crisis showcases household X-games medalists Tanner Hall, Jon Olson and Simon Dumont in a new Ski film. Directed by Henrick Rostrup and Kris Ostness, watch and be amazed by some of the biggest jumps you'll ever see (90ft. Pyramid Gap and 120ft Chad´s Gap). Lastly, the third video takes us back to the glorious past of Grand Master Helio Gracie. Watch him battle it out with some of the martial arts great during the 1950s in Gracie Legends in Action 1. This new movie also include the 1975 legendary battle between Team Gracie and Team Karate. Image Entertainment's videos could be find and purchased on various sites online like Amazon. |

It's been quite a while since we last heard updates for Legend of the Dragon for the PSP. Having watched a couple of episodes of the TV show the game is based on, we can tell that the game's 3D animation matches the graphics style of the show, which we think is one great way to lure the fans into buying the game.
The Legend of the Dragon is centered on the signs of the ancient Chinese zodiac, each supposedly holding great mystical powers. The Zodiac Master yearns to attain these powers to make him virtually unstoppable. Chinese martial arts student Ang, who's chosen to be the next Golden Dragon, stands in the way of the Zodiac Master. Ang's twin sister Ling was lured to the dark side when her brother was chosen over her, and thus the stage is set for this battle between good and evil. We think that the game has potential especially with such storyline, but we still wonder how it can stand out from the crowd of fighting games out in the market. Gamers are quite the picky lot, so if the game doesn't offer much new material, then they'll stick to the well-known (and proven) fighting game/action-adventure games, and/or turn their focus to newer, more interesting games. That said, we think this game has a fighting chance, pardon the pun, and we'll give Legend of the Dragon a try when it comes out later this year. Until then, check out these screenshots released by The Game Factory.
